It’s not something you can buy or find in your closet~
Think how much better life would be, if we started living from the heart!
There’d be a lot less tears and way more love
Think how much happier we’d be, and that’s just the start!
Beauty is extending your hand to the friendless
It’s giving even when you have nothing left
Beauty is kindness, compassion, and unconditional love
It’s letting go of the material and grasping the eternal
It’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness, what was taught by the Father above
We need to stop judging others by their mortal exteriors
Because just like a present, it’s what’s the inside that truly matters
Let’s tear down the foolish notions we’ve built in our minds
Stop believing our worth is measured by what we understand
Because these lies only serve to bind
Beauty is on the inside, as I’ve come to find
It isn’t something that our physical eyes can see
Just like the Father’s love, it’s something that is felt between you and me
This is, by far, the longest poem I’ve ever written, and also the only one with five lines per stanza. I wrote in response to a horrible, distasteful YouTube video called ‘Dear Fat People,’ by Nicole Arbor. (Arbour?) and all I can say is that, Nicole, you and I have two very different views of people. Everything I’ve ever wanted to say about beauty is in the poem, and hopefully, it inspired, encouraged, and strengthened you.
Shine
Stop holding yourself back
Stop being so afraid
Don’t hide who you really are
Just know the stones for your path are being laid
You’ve been given a voice, so use it
God has only made one like yours
There will never be another
And you know inside it’s time to come forward
God has shown you your future
The time to go after it is now
You’ve got more strength than you know
This is your break-through – your awakening hour
You’ve been waiting for a sign to know when to go
This is it, the only chance you’ll get
So, put aside your worries, it’ll be alright
God’s got this covered, did you really think He’d forget?
So, what are you doing? Why are you still here?
You know where you need to go
You’ll never be more ready than you are right now
You better get going; you’ve got a lot of seeds to sow
Whoever you are, you know exactly what God wants
He’s told you where to go and what to do
I’m only going to say this one more time
This is your break-through – the start of something new
Your season of waiting is over
And your time to shine is beginning
God has so many great things in store for you
It’s time to hit the ground running
Sometimes, you have to risk everything
For a dream that only you can see
Sometimes you have let go
In order to become truly free
Everything in your life has led to this moment
So, look into your heart, choose to believe
It wouldn’t be called walking by faith, you know
If everything was laid out for you to see
Trust in God, it’ll be okay
He wrote out the plans for your life
Long before the world began to spin
You’ll make it through, you’ll win this fight!
Your miracle is here, it won’t come again
You’ve waited so long for this
Please, don’t let fear make you pass it by
Now is the time to use your gift
Stop holding yourself back, stop being so afraid
Your moment is now, this is it
It’s time to shine in Jesus’ name
At last it’s time for your candle to be lit
GO!
Miracles
You seem so tired lately
So completely let down
You wonder it any of your dreams will ever come true
I need you to look at me, I’ve something to say to you…
Let’s start at the beginning
When God created our world
With just a few simple words
He breathed life into the void
Or maybe, when the unbelieving words Abraham spoke
‘I’m an old man, far along in years,’
And laughing to herself quietly, Sara agreed
So what a surprise when at 99 years she conceived
How about when gaping up at the walls of water
(With more than a few fish gaping back)
The children of Israel hurried toward the Promised Land
Trodding across water turned into sand
Or the bread that rained down from heaven
A deceased child to his mother restored
Barrels of meal and oil that hand no end
The prayers of a prophet that stopped the rain, then brought it again
What about the three Hebrew men who trusted in God?
They stood in the furnace and waited for Him
Not a single hair was even singed
The power of God, once again revealed to men
Or maybe, when the angel came to Mary
The prophesy of Isaiah finally fulfilled
The virgin conceived, she brought forth a son
She called His name Jesus, in Him the victory was won
‘Peace be still,’ He said to the storm
The waves laid back to rise no more
Just a tiny hint of His mighty love
Just another example of who He was
“Why are you telling me this?’ You’ll probably demand
‘This doesn’t have a thing to do with me,’
But oh, my friend you really have no clue
Of exactly what the Lord can do
You see, if He can turn water into wine
And sickness into health
Blindness into sight
And death into life
Imagine what He can do with your life
I was feeling quite down when I wrote this poem, and realized that most of my despair was coming from my unbelief in God. Once I started thinking of all the great things He’d done, it made me realize that my situation wasn’t too big for Him, and I just needed to trust in His timing. I wrote this as a reminding to myself, to continually remember the miracles God has performed.
