Filthy Secrets: A Steamy Romance Boxset Collection Page 120

By the time I got out, he was strutting along the hallway, passing by a vending machine.

“Sean, wait!” My shouting turned a few heads. I ran off down the hallway, my heart beating faster and harder.

“Monica…” he groaned, turning around to face me. “In case you forgot, I work here. You’re embarrassing me.”

I didn’t speak. The information I had for him was a lot more important than his complaining. I reached back into the pocket of my jeans, my eyes locked with his. I unfolded the small pack of papers and held it over my shoulder.

“I’m six days late,” I whispered, shuffling nearer him. “I took a pregnancy test yesterday. It came back positive. This…”

“This is the best news I’ve ever heard,” he confessed, his gentle tone sending away my fears. I felt his strong hands on my waist, pulling me closer. Sean leaned in, and before I knew it, his lips were surrounding my mouth with that familiar love and affection. I let the papers fall to the floor, before lifting my arms up to his neck. His tight embrace made my heart flutter in my chest as my body shivered under his touch. Right there, in the middle of a busy, hospital hallway, I sensed a river of tears flooding my eyes. I thought I was floating away in some magic bubble that would burst the moment our kiss came to an end.

“I love you,” I whispered to him, our mouths brushing one another.

“I love you, too.” Two tears spilled from my eyes upon his second confession that morning. “Our child needs a family. Both our children need a family. I never thought I’d do this in a hospital, but…” he paused, “marry me.”

“M-m…” I stuttered, finding myself in the sweetest dilemma of my whole life.

“Marry me,” he repeated, putting some force in his voice.

“Yes!” I cheered, jumping onto him. Sean held out his arms and grabbed my body in mid-air, my grip around his neck tightening. I kissed him on the cheek and held him close, a strange sound filling the air: a clap. I swung my head to the right, only to find Ryan standing further down the hallway, wearing a huge smile.

“Let’s hear it for Dr. Granger, ladies and gentlemen! He’s going to be a father!” He announced, strolling in our direction. Bystanders put their hands together, staring at us. I burst out laughing, unable to believe the guy’s nerve.

“How the hell does he know?” Sean wondered, easing me back.

“He caught me reading the lab tests outside of my gynecologist’s office,” I explained, tossing a quick glance over at Ryan.

“Yep,” he admitted. “Congratulations, big man. And I call ‘godfather.’”

“All right,” Sean agreed, whistles and cheers getting louder. Unlike earlier, he didn’t have a problem with us becoming a spectacle. It was amazing, but he actually seemed to enjoy it. He didn’t protest to anyone or ask anyone to stop. Instead, he kept his beaming eyes on me, smiling at me just the way he used to. I couldn’t get enough of that smile. It signaled the beginning of our new life together.

That incredible man had forgiven the weakness that had torn us apart. He was ready and willing to offer my boy and me something neither of us had ever really had: a family; a home where both of us would be welcome. The price for all that? Love. Pure. Unconditional. And how could I not give it to him? How could I not love the guy who had pulled me out of my miserable life, and made me feel that I mattered to him? That’s how he got my attention in the first place. With him, I felt important. Necessary. Special. He never considered me a pain. He took me as I was, and didn’t try to change me in any way. Most of all, he didn’t disappear when he found out about my past. He kept on believing in me, although he could have walked away and pretended I didn’t exist. Having his baby would complete us. Holding that tiny little creature in my arms would not terrify me like Timmy had. It would be a blessing, because I would get to share that moment with the one man who had been there for me, every step of the way. Sean Granger. The hunky doctor. The badass that didn’t hesitate to go up against money and power. The man who had healed my heart.
