The New Madrid Horror Page 2

An addendum by the scribe’s grandson:

What is TIME but a flowing current riving through space and matter? Sometimes this matter causes space to arc and shift like tectonic plates, and space cannot adjust with curvatures broad enough. Space can indeed quake and crack open in cacophonous fissures that unleash the hidden dreads of extra-dimensional dynamisms before settling again to dormancy. But the damage has been done, and by the violence of such voidal tremors, TIME can momentarily flow backward to a cosmic, fluvial tsunami of events both re-formed and undone, and undertows of indifferent hunger drag into oblivionic gulfs the pieces of matter most protuberant, such as human beings foolish enough to swim within such Judasian currents.

What care I for incest or cannibalism? Why should I wish to be consumed by a monster, when I hold the power to produce earthquakes and reverse time with these ancient numbers? This is America, after all, and many of our best inventions were discovered by accident or in the pursuit of some other goal. I will cause the land to ripple and crack. I will slay towns and cities and men by the hundreds, until the North is in ruins and the South is either restored by temporal providence or brutally avenged!

An addendum by the scribe’s granddaughter:

I must be brief, for my time is short. My foolhardy twin brother has unwittingly summoned Saciado-Genilgl-Vasmeoc-Edneang in an attempt to destroy Saint Louis. The city still stands, and my brother has been absorbed. We now gather at the feet of our god as it takes us one by one. I must go! The holy gaze is upon me!
