  ‘That sounds like him. And Hannah?’

  ‘Doing well. We’re ready to give her a job, if you approve.’

  ‘That’s good. We’ll talk about it. Anything happened while I’ve been away?’

  ‘Quite a lot,’ I said. ‘It seems that the reason why Clarence’s tail was cut off was to cover up evidence in a murder case. The murder was committed by one of your neighbours.’

  ‘Pull the other one,’ Charlie said. ‘Never mind. I’ll see you in the morning and you can give me any real news then.’

  He hung up.
