“Nice,” Tami laughed. “Mr. Mayor, it is great to see you.”
“You too! Tami! Nate!” The mayor hugged his friends and shook their hands.
“He’s waiting for you, Alton,” Nate said.
“Well, let’s not keep him waiting any longer.”
The three of them, flanked by the ranking NCOs and by the militia officers, marched to the top of the City Hall steps. Seconds later the doors opened and United Nations of the Earth Commanding General McMillis stepped through the revolving doorway of the Aldrinville Mayor’s Office Complex.
“General McMillis, I am Mayor Alton Hamilton. I would very much like to accept your unconditional surrender at this point.” Hamilton held out his right hand.
“Well played, Mr. Mayor. The UNE forces under my command surrender.”
“Thank you, General. We’ll discuss conditions.”
“First, Mr. Mayor, can I at least get a look at this alien artifact?”
“Well, that is what this was all about, isn’t it?” Hamilton nodded. “Let’s see if we can work together, this time.”
