“So, this isn’t the best time to have a drink together, huh?” he said.
Kidd looked across at Zoe and then back to John. “Not really,” he said. “Another time, though?”
John widened his eyes and nodded, taking a sip of his drink, possibly preparing his next move. “That works for me,” he said. “I’ve got your number now.”
“You sure do,” Kidd said.
“So, I’ll call you tomorrow,” he said. “It was lovely meeting you, Zoe.”
“And you.”
“Bye,” Kidd said as John walked away. He couldn’t keep the smile off his face.
“Well, look at you beaming,” Zoe said. “Looks like we might have found you a hobby.”
Kidd practically choked on his drink. “You’re terrible.”
“And you can’t do without me,” she said, raising her glass to him before bringing it to her lips, unable to keep the smile off her face.
Kidd watched John walk away, the possibility of something new on the horizon. He was getting back on his feet and maybe things were going to be okay this time. Maybe.
