“What’s going on? Where’s Josephine?” I asked.
“She’s back here,” said Scarlett, leading the way to the back of the space.
Following her without a word, I thought vaguely that this might be a trap. I trusted these two witches, but maybe I shouldn’t.
No, they were friends of mine. They had helped with the fence. That must count for something. Scarlett glanced over her shoulder to make sure there was no way to see through the curtains from the street. Even with that, Scarlett only just let me slip through the curtain into the back.
I had no idea what to expect. What I saw when we finally got to the back room shocked me in a way I wasn’t prepared for.
A pair of bright blue eyes met mine.
Sitting on the floor was Hansen Gregory, bound and gagged.
