* * *
Frank found a boat he could rent for cash at a private dock not too far from the marina. He figured that would be the best way in and out. He’d found the listing in the Yellow Pages and called from a payphone. He hoped nobody would be able to identify the boat, but it was always a good idea to avoid leaving any kind of electronic trail pointing back to himself.
But the old guy who drove up in a truck and met him at the boat was nosy. He wanted to see ID. Frank showed it and watched the bastard write down his name and address in a black notebook. He would have done something about it right then, but there were other people around and he was on a tight schedule, so he tried to be inconspicuous instead. He was good at avoiding notice. It was one of his special talents.
Besides, he had the truck’s license plate number. Even better, the old fool had talked too much and let slip where he lived. So if the truck was in somebody else’s name Frank would still find him. Just one more chore for later.
