His hand clamped over hers to make her stop and this time she didn’t resist as he urged her to release him from her mouth.

Shudders ran through his muscular frame.

I did that. I brought him that pleasure.

His eyes were glazed with passion when he looked at her. ‘That wasn’t the way I saw things going.’

Wiping at her mouth, she couldn’t suppress her happiness. ‘That was fantastic. I loved doing that for you.’

He shook his head and looked totally bemused. ‘You’re the most incredible woman I’ve ever met.’ He ran the fingers of one hand through his already mussed up hair then wrapped his arms around her and gathered her closer to him as she lay half on top of him with her head against his chest.

‘I didn’t want to be a passive virgin in your bed,’ she admitted.

He squeezed her tighter. ‘You definitely weren’t that.’

‘Not to get too cocky,’ she said with a laugh, ‘but I take it I did okay.’

A shudder ran through him again. ‘More than okay.’

  ‘Well, thank goodness for YouTube.’

His body jerked and he moved so he could look at her. ‘You learnt that from YouTube?’

She nodded. ‘It’s amazing what’s available.’

‘Bloody hell! I need to make sure Katie’s computer still has parental blocking activated.’

Sarah laughed. ‘That might be wise.’

Her laughter died a swift death when he told her, ‘My turn.’

His body moved over her and he used his knee to nudge her legs part until she was spread wide and thoroughly exposed. She began trembling hard when he slipped his hand between her thighs and traced over the skin there.

  ‘Cold, sweetheart?’

  She shook her head. ‘Excited.’

  ‘Good, but I’ll go slowly.’

The intention to go slowly might’ve been good but it was almost too slow to bear.

Sarah thought she’d explode when he moved lower and his breath fanned the most private part of her, but strangely, she was in no way embarrassed. He was looking where no other man had looked—touching where no other man had touched—and it was like her whole life had been building up to this moment.

Knowing, confident fingers honed in on their target with ruthless, satisfying skill as he ran his finger along her intimate crease. Like an expert archer with unerring aim he reached his destination—the taut bud of nerve endings that was swollen and throbbing with her need. He was the archer and she was the bow. Her body was drawn and impossibly tense as it waited for release.

Parting her labia, he let one finger slide into her honeyed readiness and she stiffened a little at the foreign intrusion.

Nick sent her a questioning glance. ‘Okay?’

Unable to will her vocal cords into action she nodded.

He used his other hand to smooth down over her hip bone and applied pressure to still her trembling thighs and sent her a smile of reassurance. ‘Just relax.’

Relax? Her whole body jack-knifed as he bent over her and licked up her seam, his tongue probing her intimately and learning the depth, texture and taste of every crevice of her most intimate place.

It drew mindless whimpers of pleasure from her as he made his tantalising journey up, up further, to arrive and lick delicately at her taut bud.

This was sensory heaven and she could only hope that she’d brought him as much bliss as he was delivering to her.

Her body was besieged by sensational bone-dissolving swirls of pleasure as he feasted on her, lathing her clitoris with his tongue and probing deeper inside her with his finger.

Her short nails dug into the muscled strength of his broad shoulders as she hung on tight and loved that she was in the grips of her most cherished fantasy—that Nick was master of her body, enslaving her senses.

His finger found a decidedly sweet spot the same time as he pulled her clitoris more sharply into his mouth. She came apart in a climax so earth shattering she truly thought she was about to be launched up into the heavens and that it was only his hands on her hips that kept her anchored to the mattress.

  Amazing.

  Incredible.

  Fantastic.

There weren’t enough adjectives in the dictionary to describe how good it’d been for her.

Nick kissed his way back up her body until his head was over hers and she was able to gaze into his eyes.

  ‘All good?’ he asked.

‘So much better than good.’ She sighed with completion. ‘You promised me stargazing tonight. What I didn’t realise was that you were actually going to launch me up close to those stars.’ It might sound corny, but it was true. The orgasm he’d given her had rocketed her right up into a heavenly stratosphere and the part of her that was still floating in orbit never wanted to come back to earth.

‘Want to go back there together?’

  ‘Yes,’ she whispered breathlessly.

Every beat of her heart, every pulse of blood around her body echoed her need to have Nick join his body with hers and fill her so the aching, empty need between her legs was assuaged.

Yes. She was ready for this.

He used his hand to separate her folds a little more before the hard jut of his arousal nudged her in that place.

  ‘Damn! Hang on!’

When he would’ve moved away her hands gripped hard at his shoulders. ‘What’s wrong?’

‘Condom.’ He kissed her swiftly. ‘You drive me so crazy I almost forgot.’

Her arms felt bereft as he virtually vaulted off the bed, grabbed the protection he needed from his wallet and donned it efficiently.

‘Er … I’m on the pill to regulate my periods, Nick, and obviously I’m clean,’ she said as he rejoined her on the bed. ‘So, in future, if it you don’t have any health issues …’

‘I definitely don’t. Thanks for telling me.’

One of his hands cupped over her mound of neat blonde hair and his questing finger slid again along the dampness of her cleft as though he was making sure she was still ready for his penetration.

  She was more than ready.

‘It’s going to hurt a little,’ he warned.

  ‘I realise.’

He’d barely moved into her and she felt the sting of pain.

Nick stopped immediately. His forehead rested against hers. ‘You okay?’

  ‘Keep going.’

Her body both welcomed him and protested as he moved into her inch by magnificent inch. He introduced her to the ultimate intimacy, stretching her inner channel so she accommodated his girth and almost all his length into the very depths of her body.

Tears stung her eyes and she squeezed her eyelids down quickly to hold back the flow.

‘Am I hurting you too much?’

‘It’s not pain, it’s just … sheer emotion. I didn’t know whether I’d ever get to do this.’ She’d never known whether any man would ever be able to see past her horrible scars and make love to her. ‘And I’m so glad it’s you.’

Nick brushed his lips over hers. ‘You’re sure you’re alright?’

Sending him a watery smile she said, ‘More than alright. Please don’t stop, Nick.’

  ‘Nearly there.’

Another gentle surge and he’d sheathed his entire rock-hard length in her inner softness. He stilled over her, claiming her lips in a heart-wrenching, soul-shattering kiss of tender emotion while her body got used to the delicious, dizzying sensation of stretching to accommodate a man inside her for the first time.

Arms looped around his back, Sarah increased the intensity of her kisses and their tongues played for a while until Nick moved purposefully again. Initially Sarah tensed a little as he began to withdraw. There was no missing his shudder of ecstasy as her inner muscles closed around his shaft. Learning the power of hitherto untried muscles, she established a rhythm of clenching and releasing them as he began to thrust into her body and withdraw.

Holding on to his shoulders, she soon picke
d up the rhythm with her hips and moved in counterpoint, loving this delicious friction of their bodies—the fabulous slide of Nick in and out of her—stretching her, receding then stretching again.

‘You are so hot. So fabulous,’ he pronounced between harsh breaths.

  Need built.

  Rapturous pleasure built.

His thrusting became faster, seemingly impossibly deeper, and oh so satisfying.

Sarah loved every second of their passionate union.

It consumed her so that her brain shut down to everything else except the pleasurable sensations coursing through her.

Before long she was carried on a powerful rip of her orgasm. It was impossible to fight—impossible to keep at bay. Wave upon wave of pleasure washed over her body.

Her own release triggered Nick’s and his huge frame shuddered above hers.

Still being tossed about tumultuously by her own climax she was barely aware of Nick calling out her name. When he finally stilled, she was thoroughly spent. Thoroughly fulfilled. The heady aftermath of lovemaking that engulfed her was akin to floating along pleasurably on a warm current of ecstasy.

The pleasure was more intense than she’d ever dreamed possible. It left her weak limbed while deep internal aftershocks seized her womb every now and again and created more bursts of delight.

Nick rolled away from her briefly to rid himself of the condom then lifted up the sheet and bed cover and they both slid between the bed linen together.

Sarah couldn’t stop smiling as she snuggled against him, her smooth legs enjoying the slight abrasion of his hair roughened ones and her head pillowed against his chest. He held her protectively and she felt cherished as he brushed the palm of his hand gently down the curve of her cheek.

‘That was incredible,’ she said as her fingers stroked lightly over his chest. ‘I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop smiling after tonight.’

  ‘Bliss,’ he agreed.

Lying together savouring the sweet aftermath of their mutual orgasms, Sarah had never felt closer to another person in her entire life. It was a perfect unity. A unification of their bodies and, to her, it had also seemed like a joining of their souls.

This was where she belonged. Right here in Nick’s arms was the place she most wanted to call home.

Her body still throbbed with fulfilment and her mind was still in awe of all the sensations she’d discovered. ‘This is nirvana and I don’t ever want to come back from here.’

‘You are an innately sensual woman, Sarah Bryant.’

‘Hey! You were making love to Sarah Smith, remember?’ she teased even while she wondered whether she might ever be able to call herself Sarah Henderson.

‘I find it hard to remember. Sarah Smith sounds too ordinary for such an extraordinary woman.’

‘Hmm. I like that you think so.’

He shifted a little so she was forced to move her head and look up at him. She saw openness and honesty in his expression as he underlined, ‘We’ve both said we’re not into one-night stands.’

‘I hope not. One night would never be enough. Your lovemaking could fast become addictive, Nick.’

  ‘Just my lovemaking?’

‘No.’ They really were being honest. ‘I love every minute of being with you, in bed and out of it. I love being part of your world.’

‘I feel the same. I can’t imagine trying to hide my feelings for you from the world—especially from my friends and family, yet I’ve got to admit I’m a bit hesitant about being open in front of Katie.’

‘Surely she’s known you’ve dated women before?’

‘I think she’s been aware of it—possibly from Jasmin, her cousin, who no doubt would’ve heard some of Jocelyn’s comments. But I’ve never introduced her to any of the women I’ve dated.’

Sarah wasn’t sure what to think. ‘I guess I can understand your reticence. You feel uncomfortable having your teenage daughter and lover in the same room?’

‘No. That isn’t it. I don’t think I could be in the same room as you now and not want to have you in my arms, or at least be in physical contact with you in some way.’

  ‘Then I don’t understand.’

‘I want this relationship with you and I don’t care if the entire world knows we’re together. I’m more worried about whether Katie will handle it if this doesn’t work out between us and I think that’ll be harder for her if our relationship has been in the press.’

His words reinforced that he wanted to take a chance—that he thought it was possible they might have a permanent future together—and it was wonderful to know.

‘I’m sorry, Sarah. We’ve only just made love and here I am talking about the possibility of us breaking up. That’s twice tonight I’ve killed the mood.’

‘You’re too hard on yourself. I understand you’re a dad first and foremost and you’ve got to think of Katie’s needs as well as your own.’

  ‘You’re one in a million.’

‘Just practical. To be perfectly honest, I think I’d like to keep our relationship out of the news for as long as possible too. I don’t handle it when I’m surrounded by a paparazzi pack and although I know Ryan will be thrilled to know we’re together, I don’t know that he’s ready to be identified as my brother—which is inevitable if the press starts snooping into my life.’

‘Are you happy to let those closest to us know that we’re a couple?’

A couple. It sounded so wonderful to her to be thought of as the other half of a whole with Nick.

‘Of course I’m happy, but I think Olivia and Jenna have already picked up on the vibe.’

Nick laughed. ‘Luca and Max have been giving me merry hell.’ He looked a bit sheepish as he admitted, ‘I may have been less than flattering in my description of your character after our celebrity auction dinner date.’

Sarah’s body shook with laughter. ‘Yes. Well. I can hardly blame you for that.’

‘I was also very suspicious of you.’ This time his short laugh was self-derisory. ‘I had this sense that you were hiding something.’

Guilt stabbed her. She was still hiding something.

The tip of his finger tapped against her nose. ‘Now I know all you were trying to conceal was your presence on the yacht and the pattern on your midriff.’

Pattern on her midriff? The amazing downplaying of her scars warmed her.

‘We’ve come a long way since that night,’ he said with a satisfied smile.

‘We have.’ She planted a kiss on his chest. ‘When Katie goes back to school, do you think we might be able to share a room together when we travel on to the Philippines and Tanzania for the rest of the documentary?’

‘I think it sounds like a fabulous cost-cutting move. I’m sure the NOCO board would approve.’ When she gave him a playful thump he added, ‘This founding director wouldn’t have it any other way.’

After all the angst she’d had since St Petersburg, life was finally back on track.

  St Petersburg.

  Eduardo.

It seemed like a lifetime ago.

Sarah frowned. At some point she was going to have to admit to Nick that she was no longer the face of Eduardo’s House of Haute Couture.

  Not tonight.

Nick would want to know why she no longer had contracts with Eduardo and his brother and she’d have to reveal the whole ugly scandal.

It could wait. This was their night of perfection and she wasn’t going to let anything spoil it.

  Chapter 16

When the photographer called ‘Take a breather’ Sarah rolled her shoulders and stretched her back.

‘How on earth do you manage to sit still in such uncomfortable positions for so long and keep smiling?’ Katie asked.

Sarah tilted her head to one side. ‘Still want to be a model?’

‘It’s not as glamorous as it seems,’ the teenager replied grudgingly.

Nick had asked if Katie could accompany Sarah to one of the fashion shoots during the A
ustralian trip, hoping it would deter his daughter from modelling. Even though Nick said that Katie was more confident than her mother, he was still concerned in case Katie succumbed to industry pressure and adopted drastic measures in the quest for whatever so-called perfect figure was in vogue at the time.

‘That was great, Sarah,’ the photographer told her as he checked through the photos on his camera. ‘These images are exactly what I wanted so we’ll wrap it up for today.’

  Yes.

‘Oh yay!’ Katie beamed. ‘Dad said if we finished early enough the three of us could drive down to Cairns, walk along the pier and have ice-cream!’

‘That sounds like a nice way to spend the afternoon.’

‘It’ll be great. I want to buy some souvenirs to take home to my friends while we’re there as well. I’ve hardly done any shopping since I’ve been here.’

Sarah tried to hide her smile as she gathered up her things. She supposed she might have been the same at thirteen had she had the money to spend on shopping.

‘Want a lift back to the hotel, ladies?’ the photographer asked.

‘I think I’d rather walk, thanks. How about you, Katie?’

  ‘Okay. It’s not far.’

As they made their way back, Sarah asked, ‘How do you feel about your dad and I dating?’

A broad smile almost split Katie’s face. ‘I think it’s the best thing ever.’

‘I’m glad because I care about him very much.’

‘I heard Uncle Luca and Aunty Olivia talking about it last night and they said they hoped “a romance would blossom”.’

Sarah grinned. ‘That sounds far more like something Olivia would say than Luca.’

‘You’re right, but Uncle Luca agreed with her. They both think Dad’s been lonely and that he should get married again.’

‘I’m not suggesting that your father and I are going to marry, but if he does marry again one day, will you be okay with that?’

‘Sure. I’d be thrilled if he marries you because you make him happy.’ Katie’s smile turned into a frown. ‘I was six when my mum died but I remember she always used to say it was important that we make Dad happy. I’m sure she told me that every single day.’
