Love For My Zombie Kings: A Reverse Harem Zombie Romance (Zombies Rule The World Book 1) Page 10

by McCoy, LeeSha

I debated leaving straight away, but anger soon replaced the hurt, so I decided she needed to learn the consequences of her actions.

“So, how have you been?” I ask her as we sit down at the back of the coffee shop with our drinks. It’s quite busy in here, but I really wish it wasn’t.

She tries to calm herself down, but it’s obvious she’s uncomfortable. Must be that wire under her shirt she keeps adjusting. “Good. You?”

I’m fucking fuming, Gia. “Yeah, I’m good.”

  “Good.”

I sigh, because betrayal aside, things are so awkward between us. They were, even on the phone when I called her. I guess I have my own gut feelings, too, because I decided to withhold my number before I called.

I sip my tea, but I soon rest it back down. It hasn’t tasted quite right since I changed. I actually prefer coffee now, like my boyfriends. My heart flutters and I resist the urge to smile at that thought, but I know they love hearing me calling them that.

Gia stays quiet, so I decide to hurry up and get this over with.

I cross my arms on the table. “Right, well, I know you're busy, so I'll just get straight to it. I'm leaving Cambridge.”

Her eyes widen. “What? To go where?”

I chew my lip, remembering I need to be very careful about what I say. “I can't tell you.”

Her defences rise, and I’m shocked by the audacity of her. “Why not?”

  “Because, I can't trust you.”

  She scoffs. “Are you serious?”

I grind my teeth, trying to swallow down my growing fury. “Don't bother lying to me, Gia. I know exactly what you think, and what you've planned.” I look around to Dagger and Pin.

‘They're clearing the street,’ they say.

‘I know.’ I can hear them out there.

‘Don't worry, Angel. We're ready,’ I hear Thorn.

“You're one of them,” Gia says in realisation.

I turn back to face her, but I don’t answer.

  She gasps. “How could you—”

I slam my hand down on the table, creating a crack through the wood. “No, how the fuck could you!” My eyes see red, but I manage to hold onto my form. “You sold me out to the fucking authorities! Your best friend!”

She recoils. “You aren't my friend anymore. You're a fucking monster!”

I clench my fist so tightly, I can smell blood trickling from my palm. “I’d be careful, Gia. You’re not the only one who can be a double-crossing bitch,” I hiss.

She recoils. “I was worried about you.”

I feel eyes on us from the scene we're causing, but as much as the other customers in here are being nosy now, they're about to get one hell of a show in a few minutes. “Worried about yourself more like. You should’ve known I’d never have dragged you into this, but now you’ve made me.”

“I didn’t know that, because I don’t know who the hell you are anymore! You’ve changed, Mikka, and you can’t even see it.”

I feel Thorn, Axe, and Blade reach the back door of the café to wait. I didn't want to out us all or ‘cause any shit before we left, but there’s no way in hell we're letting ourselves be captured – voluntarily or otherwise – and if I’m leaving here, I don’t want anyone following us.

So I guess it’s time to test Thorn’s theory.

“You’re right, I have changed.” I shift and she screams when she sees the skin on my hands begin to shed. She practically jumps out of her chair, but I rise quicker, grabbing her and reaching inside her shirt to rip the wire from beneath her bra.

I pull it to pieces and throw it behind me, causing the rest of the people in here to suddenly start rushing out.

Gia’s eyes widen enough to escape. “Please, Mikka. I promise, I only did it because I was worried about you!”

I hold her arm harder and she bends from the pain, but then I feel a growing urge to bite into her dark skin. “It didn't have to be like this. You made me do this shit! Fuck!” I pull her closer and bite a chunk out of her neck before I let her fall to the ground.

I can’t bring myself to chew her flesh, though, so I spit it out before looking down at her. She’s trying to stop the blood flowing from her wound, but as upset as I feel about what I’ve done, I don’t help her.

“You’re dead to me. Whatever happens to you now, you deserve all of it.”

She only whimpers as I turn away from her.

The whole coffee shop has erupted in chaos now, with people screaming as they fight each other to get out. All the brothers are standing together by the counter, so I make my way over to them. As serious as this situation is about to get, my thoughts drift to how weird it is to see them in these jeans and hoodies. They’ve barely worn anything at home.

Thorn looks over at Gia on the floor before returning his intrigued eyes to mine. “You know if she doesn’t die, she still might turn, right?”

I nod up at him. “I know.” Maybe I should’ve just left, but I couldn’t let it go. “I'm sorry.”

Thorn trails his thumb over my bloodied lips before planting a chaste kiss on them. “You have nothing to be sorry for,” he says, and I hear the other brothers telling me the same, in my head.

“Mikka Rishan, come out with your hands on your head and you won't be harmed.”

I feel unsettled from hearing the police demanding my presence.

“Fuck them,” Thorn says. “You ready?”

“Yeah.” Not that I have a choice.

  “Mikka Rishan, come out with...”

Thorn takes a brief look past me. “Maim them all, but try not to kill them. Let them become what they will.”

“Does it hurt when you get shot?” I ask, suddenly even more nervous. I know they shoot zombies to slow them down, so I am a little worried about the pain. “And what about gas?”

Blade chuckles. “No, sweetness. The only thing that hurts is fire. Let that touch you and it will be the last time you let it.”

“Yeah,” Axe agrees, “that shit hurts like a motherfucker.”

“We've got you,” Blade says. “Don’t worry, alright?”

  I nod.

Thorn shifts and then so do the rest of the brothers. I know they’re pissed—not with me—but with having me in a situation like this. But as much as I know their need to protect me is at an all-time high, I'm grateful none of them have forbidden me to go with them. I don't want to be treated like a damsel in distress.

Thorn holds my arm as I try to walk towards the door with them. “We’ll go first.”

  “Okay.”

They all turn except Dagger who rests a kiss on my forehead. “Give them hell, Princess.”

I smile up at him. “I’ll try.”

“You will,” the others say in unison, and then they’re all gone.

There’s a moment of silence and I hold my breath, but then shots start to fire. I move closer to the window and watch the brothers running through the police cars and black vans as they bite the armed officers. There are flamethrowers, too, and I mentally take note of where they are before I run outside to them.

I sprint into the street to a blacked-out van and bite the woman there the same way I bit Gia. Her gun fires but doesn’t hit me, it shatters the windscreen of the car beside us, though. There are a few brave people watching from a temporary barrier that the police have erected, and they scream as they watch the chaos unfolding.

The brothers are making pretty quick work of the police already here, but the sirens keep coming and so do the shots around us.

Blade and Axe take out the wielders of the new flamethrowers, and I’m relieved. Dagger and Thorn are flipping cars and causing as much disruption as possible to keep the heat off me, while I concentrate on biting as many of the new police as I can.

Pin’s at my side, effectively covering my back. The brothers are wanting Thorn’s theory of me being able to change humans to be tested, too, and I soon realise Axe and Blade are almost throwing officers my way so I can sink my teeth into them.

; It’s not long before the sounds of shots firing slowly begins to lessen again, and over the brothers’ angry roars and the screams of the police falling, I hear the thoughts of Mister Myers’ brother close by.

  Of course he’d be here.

“Come with me,” I tell Pin, pulling his arm.

We run over to a black van near the perimeter, and the spectators quickly run away. I pull open the door, but before Pin can move me quick enough, a blast of fire catches my hand.

“Fuck!” I think I even squeal. That definitely hurts.

Pin practically growls as he reaches inside the van to pull Myers’ brother out. He smashes the flamethrower on the ground and then kicks Myers in the face so hard, I hear the crack of his jaw as it breaks.

‘Bite this fucker,’ he says, and I hear the others demanding I do the same.

  Their anger makes me shudder.

I kneel down, still feeling the stinging in my hand. I might be healing, but that shit still hurts. “You should’ve left it alone,” I say, ignoring his pained moans for mercy.

I grab his arm to bite him, but my anger at being hurt fuels me to bite him three more times, each time tearing a chunk out of his skin down to the bone before spitting it back at him.

I really hope Thorn’s theory is right.

“Good luck,” I say as I get to my feet, but I don’t think he hears.

“The little bitch passed out,” Pin says, turning me to face him. He looks down at my hand and his jaw clenches. “It will stop hurting soon, baby. I promise.”

I glance down and see my mottled skin stitching itself back together across the knuckles. It’s already feeling better. It could’ve been so much worse, though.

I look back up when Pin cups my cheek, and I hold my hand over his. “Thank you.”

He shakes his head dismissively and tucks a few stray strands of my hair behind my ear. “You’re ours to protect. Fight with us all you want, but we’ll all die before we let anything happen to you.”

“Damn fucking right,” I hear Blade second him as the rest of the brothers surround us.

They each inspect my hand before comforting me in some way. Their actions warm my heart. They really do love me already.

“More than anything,” Dagger says, voicing the others’ thoughts out loud.

The brothers survey the area, and as I follow their gazes to see the bloodied bodies scattered all over the street, I realise that they’ve managed to keep most of them alive. They’re all hurting badly, though, and if they’re not moaning out in pain, I can hear their cries inside their minds.

“We’re done here,” Thorn announces before turning to me. We all return to ourselves, and he gives my hand another inspection before pulling me into his arms and resting a kiss on my head. “Better?”

I nod against his chest, relieved that the pain has finally gone.

“Good. Now let's get the fuck out of here.”
