It’s at this point I have tears flowing freely down my face, and snot threatens to drip from my nose. I take my napkin, hastily dabbing the offending wetness away before I’m able to give him an enthusiastic nod of assent.
Relief floods his face, and he rises out of his chair. I stand, meeting him at the side of the table. Then my left hand is in his, and he’s sliding the ring onto my finger. It’s dazzling, and I’m mesmerized by how big it is. I’ve never seen anything like it.
“I love you,” Benjamin murmurs as he brings my hand up, brushing a kiss on my knuckles.
“Oh, Benjamin… I love you, too,” I say, throwing my arms around him so I can bestow the biggest, sloppiest, most emotional kiss in the world on him. His arms go tightly around me, and he lifts me off the ground as our kiss deepens.
I’m vaguely aware of people clapping, and I’m acutely aware I’ve never been this happy in my entire life.
The best thing, though, is it’s only going to get better from here.
