ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I can’t believe I have finally written ‘The End’ on this series. What was supposed to be three became five, and what was supposed to be six ended up at seven. But I have no regrets. This story was hijacked my characters – I keep complaining about JongB, but they all played a part – and that’s why it followed the path it did. So, I’m going to start by being weird and thanking my characters.
Yes, you read that correctly. I just thanked Youngbin, Xiao, Jiwon, JongB, MinMin, CX, Sungmin, and Kate. They all have a very large place in my heart, and they’re very real to me.
But not as real as the visual inspiration. I don’t know where Amazon decided to open this book for you. If it was Chapter One, you’ll have missed my dedication. That means there’s a chance you don’t know who inspired Onyx. While I’m absolutely certain that in all those idol groups there are members who do like each other, and might even be in relationships, I’m not saying that this is the case with these idols (for the love of all things fluffy, Wonho has been through enough in the last year and I don’t want JYP suing my ass).
Bang Chan from Stray Kids, Lee Hoseok (Wonho) from Monsta X (fight me), Seo Kangjoon (actor and member of 5urprise), Kang Daniel (was WannaOne and now a solo artist), Lim Jaebeom (JB) from Got7, Choi Chunghyeop (Baron) from VAV, and actor Lee Jongsuk – thank you for being my visual inspirations, and for most of you, thank you for providing the soundtrack to writing my books.
I don’t like to go overboard on the descriptions of the characters because I want to be able to write stories where you can insert your own visual inspiration on the characters. If you haven’t already, please join my Facebook group and share images of your Onyx.
Before I move on, I’m going to sneak in a sneaky author’s note here. If you read these books knowing a little about K-pop and Korean culture this next part will be of no surprise. If you stumbled on the book and this has been your first exposure to this (first of all, check out the music videos from the chapter titles. They cover a lot of K-pop groups, but you really need to see the videos as well as listen to the music), this might surprise you.
I’ve done a lot of research on this. I don’t know the complete ins and outs of the K-pop industry, but I’ve done my best to give you a story as accurate as possible. You know, if you ignore the harem part of it. Idols work hard. They average 3 hours sleep during promotions. Tours are one stop to another with varying degrees of crazy fans. Dating rules are usually written into contracts and a dating scandal can get you kicked out of a group (Google Pentagon). But these people are just as human as you and I. They get upset at faceless comments on the SNS, and they can fall in love. I guarantee you there are more idols who are dating than you can imagine. You only need to go on a quick search and past idols are ready to spill some tea. So, would a group be in a relationship with one girl? No. Would they be dating and successfully hide it from the world? You betcha!
Anyway, back to my acknowledgements…
As always, I have the biggest pile of thanks to Sarah. If I was going to dedicate a harem to her, it would be Onyx. To be fair, she’s tried to stake her claim on them several times over… While I have a very good memory, sometimes it gets tangled up and this is the woman I go to with the no tears shampoo and comb to get my thoughts straight. While she’s not been able to tame JongB – she damn well encourages him – she’s been my writing light, guiding me away from plot disasters and mental breakdowns when I keep setting stupid deadlines and allowing my characters to keep charge. Thank you, Sarah. When this pandemic ends and we eventually meet, there will be Korean food involved. I promise.
If Sarah is my Yin, Cheryl is my Yang. She’s slightly more of a task driver, but not in that overbearing way. At my request, she’s the one who will make sure I’ve got my ass in a chair writing. With her and Sarah, I have a pep squad and plot wranglers. I know there are authors who keep their plots bottled up, but with these two, I have the ability to chat them out with them and help keep them realistic. Even if they might get a little frustrated at me going, “yes, but…” Thank you Cheryl – you get Korean food too.
Life gets busy (I’ve fallen victim to this), but my beta team are awesome sauce. I send out a copy of the story and they read it in a matter of days and give me the best feedback ever. Not just the compliments, but the parts which need work. To me, that’s invaluable. I know that the last couple of books not all of my beta readers have been able to get comments back to me, but they’ve been there on the Onyx World Tour, so I want to express my eternal gratitude to Adena, Courtney, Melinda, and Heather. Collectively, you’ve caught an embarrassing amount of typos that escaped me, my editor and my proof reader. You’ve plugged up plot holes, and you’ve straightened out my wonky timelines. You are my superstars, you are my heroes. Thank you, goddesses!
With the last book comes the last book cover. “Hi Natasha – just three books… Um, do we have enough of the model for just one more…? About that…” But she will be relieved to know that this is the last and we don’t have to scramble around for a matching model for the last cover. (Like we have for H3RO). To me, graphic design is art. It is magical art made on a computer with skills I don’t have but am completely in awe of. I love my covers. I love Natasha and Natasha Snow Designs. Thank you for my beautiful covers and for being eternally patient with me!
To my ARC readers, thank you for reading and reviewing and somehow managing to do it in lightning speed. I wish I could write at a bigger fraction of the speed that you read at. Your superpowers floor me every time. Your reviews help make Amazon wave their magic over the books and help them get seen, so thank you for taking the time to read and review!
And of course a book isn’t really a book if it isn’t read. At best, it’s a decoration. Otherwise it’s lost in cyberspace. Which means, in some respects, the most important person is you reading this. You are the ones who give me reason. You make me keep writing, and at times I really do need that because my passion is still super niche. You found the K-pop reverse harem and you read it. If you’re reading this, you read aaaaaaaaall the way to the end of the series! I’m not sure if I’ll be big enough for author conferences and signings, and I’m not sure I’ll be confident enough for them either, but do know I would fangirl so hard over each one of you! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading and supporting me.
If you haven’t joined my Facebook group, that’s probably the best place to get in touch with me. I am active in there, and I do try to respond to posts. I completely en
courage posts of K-pop and K-dramas and books. It is also where I keep everyone updated on everything. It’s also where (S)he’s All Theirs is being published – chapter by chapter, a “You Choose Why Choose” where you get to help shape the story by voting at the end of each chapter. And it’s where you can read it for free. It’s also where you’re going to get some unreleased / deleted Onyx and H3RO scenes. (There are questions to join – it’s to keep the spam out!)

Failing that, the next best option is my newsletter. It goes out twice a month. I’m too lazy to do it more than that!

Otherwise, I’ll see you again in the next book (that’s going to be Idol Threats – and if you didn’t know about that, that’s exactly why you need to join my Facebook group!)
As always, 고마워, 너를 사랑해! (Thank you and I love you!)
