As they reached the portal Max put his large hand onto the edge of it, until it lit up with the strange symbols that the boys had seen before. ‘Where are we going now?’ asked Eric.
‘Only place we can go for now—back to earth’ Max replied, then stepped into the portal and disappeared.
‘You next boys,’ said Doogard as he ushered them up to the portal and one after the other they too both stepped into it and disappeared, as did Doogard, following close behind.
Stedd turned away from the portal and looked up to the sky. The nearest dragon was bearing down on the ledge, mouth open ready to fire.
Stedd wasted no more time and strode into the portal, which closed seconds before the whole area became engulfed in flames.
