Miracle on Shifter Street Page 5

by Braylon Black

I chuckled and pointed down the hall. “Thataway.”

Once inside my room, Logan tossed me on the bed. He grabbed my pants and yanked them all the way off. I bit my bottom lip and watched with eager anticipation as he stood by the side of the bed and took his pants off, too. Goddess, he was beautiful. I’d never seen anyone like Logan before. No one else even came close to his level of masculine beauty.

A little spurt of pre-cum dribbled out of the tip of my cock in anticipation for what was about to happen. I whimpered, rolled myself onto my belly, and jutted my ass into the air.

“Hurry up and fuck me, Logan,” I begged. “I can’t take it anymore. The condoms are in the drawer on the bedside table.”

Waiting for Logan to find one and slip it on felt like an eternity, though I knew in reality it probably only took a few seconds.

Then his lips were on my ear, his hands on my hips, and his cock pressed against the ring of my eager hole. “You ready?” he whispered, his hot breath sending giddy shivers down my spine.

“Fuck yes,” I whimpered. “Please, Logan. I’m all yours!”

He pushed his cock inside and I yelped as my hole stretched wide to accommodate him. My ass throbbed around his thickness, but after a few seconds, the pain began to fade, replaced instead by indescribable pleasure.

“Does that feel okay?” Logan whispered.

“Oh fuck yes,” I panted. “Better than anything in the world.”

“Mmm, good,” Logan growled. He rolled his hips gently, stuffing himself as deep as he could. Goddess, it felt so fucking good to be filled up to the brim with my alpha’s throbbing cock.

He began to thrust. He rhythmically pulled out and pushed himself back in, over and over again, each thrust pushing a wave of indescribable pleasure through my entire body from my head to my toes. My cock pulsed pre-cum, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to hang on for very long.

“Fuck me, Logan,” I begged. “Harder.”

“Oh yes,” Logan groaned. “Take me, omega.”

Logan did as I said and began to fuck me with wild abandon. My old mattress creaked, and the wooden bed frame clanged against the wall.

“Oh, here I cum!” Logan cried out.

His cock burst and filled my ass with warm cream. Simultaneously, my orgasm hit me like a freight train, and I exploded all over my belly and the bed sheets. Logan chuckled tiredly as he collapsed on top of me, pressing the length of his body against my back.

“That was incredible,” he huffed, kissing my neck. “I’m not lying when I say that was the best sex I’ve ever had.”

“Seriously? Wow. That’s quite the compliment!”

Logan slowly pulled himself out of me, and I felt a warm trickle run down onto the bedsheets. We’d made a mess but I didn’t care. I rolled on my back underneath Logan and gazed up into his gorgeous green eyes. “You’re not half bad yourself, you know.”

He grinned, his eyes twinkling. I wrapped my arms around his strong, boxy shoulders, and pulled him to my lips. I held onto him as tight as I could, never wanting to let him go. Our combined body heat radiated like a furnace, and I felt cozier than ever wrapped up in his embrace.

How was this feeling so damn good already? I didn’t just mean the sex, either. I meant all of it. Being here with him. Kissing him. Talking and joking around. Just being in his presence.

Despite all of my bad luck… when it came to Logan, at least, I felt like the luckiest omega in the world.

  How was this possible?

Logan broke off the kiss after a few minutes and pulled away slightly, looking down between us.

“Uh... Marlie?” he asked. “Take a look at this.”

He sat up on his knees and my eyes zeroed in on his dick, where only half of a ripped condom clung around his base.

“Oh... shit,” I blurted. “There it is. I was wondering when I’d get hit with my next stroke of bad luck.”

Logan just stared at me in shock.

The phrase “bad luck” seemed like a bit of an understatement.

I was an extremely fertile bunny shifter who’d just had unprotected sex with what was surely an extremely virile alpha, a guy I’d only known since, um… this morning.

  Oops.

  Logan

I blinked my eyes open. It took a second to remember where I was and why. Curled up against my side was the sweetest, sexiest omega in the world. His arm was draped over my chest, his head nestled against my heart. I was surprised to find his sky blue eyes were already wide open, gazing up at me with affection and curiosity.

So it hadn’t been a dream after all. I really did wind up in this Christmas fairy-tale of a town. I’d met an incredibly funny, cute omega, spent all day searching for some silly rabbit’s foot with him, and then we’d… well, we’d slept together. And strangely, I didn’t feel a single ounce of regret over it, despite the fact that we were practically strangers, and it maybe wasn’t the smartest idea in the world.

  “Hey you,” I greeted sleepily.

“Morning,” he smiled, brushing his finger across the day-old stubble on my jaw. It was such a small yet intimate gesture, and it made my heart swell with love.

  Marlie was just so... perfect.

  Perfect for me.

I quickly stuffed the thought away before I could linger on it any longer.

Marlie bit his bottom lip and looked away. Then he pried himself from my embrace and scooted to the opposite side of the bed, where he slumped his head down on his pillow with a sigh. The rejection hurt my feelings a little, I had to admit.

“Everything okay?” I asked. But then I remembered: the condom broke, and Marlie was probably very worried about that.

This was my fault. I should’ve put the brakes on last night. But the desire—no, the need—to be inside him was simply too overpowering, and I couldn’t resist it. His presence had scrambled my brain and I wasn’t able to think rationally.

“Well...” Marlie sighed. “It’s just that, as you know, I’m cursed with bad luck now.” He glanced at me shyly. “So although I’m extremely happy that I met you, and that we’ve, well... gotten intimate… I’m afraid to trust it. I’m afraid to let myself feel it too much. Because... somehow I just know it’s all gonna be ripped away from me.”

I pulled in a surprised breath. My heart fluttered at Marlie’s words.

I wasn’t sure what to say, so I just laid there with my mouth hanging open stupidly.

“I mean, it’s pretty obvious that whatever this is—” he waved his hand to demonstrate—“I know that it won’t, or can’t last. You don’t even live here. You’ve got your own life to get back to. And I assume once we find the rabbit’s foot—or even if we don’t—eventually you’ll leave. Besides, I’m sure you’ll get sick of all this crap. The freak accidents, fires, me tripping every five seconds, all of the bad luck that’s sure to rub off of me and onto you... hell, you’ll be lucky to leave Vale Valley alive if you stick around with me for too long—”

“Marlie,” I said, propping myself up on my elbow to face him. “You’re rambling. Hey, I like being here with you. Bad luck or no bad luck. I don’t care. I’m exactly where I want to be right now, and I don’t want to leave—”

Marlie’s eyebrows pinched. “Keyword, right now. What does right now mean? Today? A few days? Until New Years?” He frowned, his eyes glimmering with tears. “What if we keep kissing and touching and making love and joking around and teasing each other and I end up falling in love with you?”

I gasped, my heart stammering. Like an idiot, I still didn’t know what to say. It was a combination of shock at his words, and pre-coffee morning deliriousness.

“I just know it’s gonna happen,” Marlie said, turning away and staring up at the ceiling, crossing his arms against his bare chest. “I’m gonna fall in love, hard, then you’re gonna leave and you’re gonna break my heart because that’s exactly what fate has in store for me if I don’t get my fucking stupid rabbit’s foot back.” He shot his head towards m
e with his eyes narrowed. “Do you know how annoying it is to live your entire life at the mercy of a literal inanimate object? It sucks! It’s like I have no agency! Whatever fate has in store for me, I’m just along for the ride, and I have no choice in the matter.”

“Marlie,” I said, still breathless. “Listen, we’ll find your rabbit’s foot, okay? If it’s the last thing I do, I’ll get it back for you. But even if we fail—if I fail—you’re still in control, okay? You do have agency.”

  Marlie scoffed. “No, I don’t.”

“And listen, if... if we... if,” I stammered. Marlie’s eyes widened. “If we fall for each other, I’m definitely not going anywhere.”

Marlie seemed momentarily relieved, but then he frowned again. “We. If we fall for each other. What if it’s just me?”

“That’s not gonna happen,” I replied quickly. “Because I already feel like I might be...”

My voice trailed off, as my heartrate skyrocketed. Oh geez, what was I saying? Was I seriously telling a guy I’d known less than twenty-four hours that I might be falling in love with him already?

The craziest part was that it wasn’t a lie.

Marlie’s face brightened and his eyes filled with tears. “Really? Because I... I’m feeling it too, Logan. I think I’m falling for you! Like, seriously. I know that sounds crazy, but I can’t deny my feelings.”

He scooted close to me and pressed his lips against mine. I wrapped my arm around his petite, lithe body and pulled him tight against me. He was so smooth, soft, and warm. Everything about this—about him—felt so fucking good. So fucking right.

Had I just met my mate? For real? Was this really happening?

Or were we just two slightly unhinged strangers who felt drawn to each other because we were feeling lonely over the holidays?

Marlie pulled back with a giggle. “Oh, right.”

  “What?” I asked.

“Got any names picked out for our future babies?”

“Oh, shit,” I chuckled. “About that. Do you really think I got you pregnant? I mean, it was just one time. Maybe nothing will happen.”

Marlie gave me a look. “Logan, omega bunny shifters sneeze and they get pregnant with quadruplets. We’re extremely fertile. If you didn’t knock me up, I’ll eat my sock.”

“Oh, don’t do that,” I laughed, kissing him again.

Wait, why wasn’t I freaking out about this? Especially the thought of multiple babies at once?

Inexplicably, it just didn’t seem like a bad thing to me, despite the fact that Marlie and I barely knew each other and despite the near certainty that every good friend, family member, and advice column in the world would scream “irresponsible! bad idea! run!” at us.

Besides, I’d always wanted kids of my own...

I laced my fingers through Marlie’s hair as we kissed passionately. If this pregnancy was really happening, all I could think was… thank god it happened with Marlie instead of my shitty ex.

After laying around in bed all morning kissing, cuddling, and making love, we finally went downstairs to make some coffee and have some breakfast. Instead of turning on the stove for any reason, I insisted that we simply eat cereal and milk instead. After all, there was no way to screw that up.

Marlie tilted the milk carton to fill the bowls, but all that came out were clumps of stinky off-white curdled milk.

“Shut the front door!” Marlie exclaimed. “I just bought this milk the day before yesterday.”

I shrugged, chuckling. “It’s okay. We’ll go out somewhere to eat. Maybe Sweet Bites this time, since I missed my chance yesterday. Let’s just enjoy our coffee for now.”

  “Fine,” Marlie grumbled.

“Cheers,” I said, lifting my coffee mug and clinking it against his before taking a sip. It was really good; fortunately, there seemed to be nothing wrong with the coffee we’d brewed.

Now that it was daylight and the sun was shining bright and reflecting off the clean white snow, I was able to get a better look at Marlie’s little cottage. I strolled around the house as I sipped my coffee, admiring the little knickknacks and trinkets decorating every space, and the myriad paintings and picture frames on the wall. There were several of Marlie as a toddler, looking as cute as a button. One picture showed a smiling couple: a pretty brunette woman and a tall, skinny man with platinum blond hair and big blue eyes. He was the spitting image of Marlie. Just a taller, older, more serious looking version.

“Are these your parents?” I asked Marlie, my heart breaking a little. As annoying as my own parents were, I couldn’t imagine not having them in my life.

“Yep, that’s them,” Marlie walked up and stood beside me.

“You look just like your dad,” I noted.

  “I do,” Marlie smiled.

“They were bunny shifters too, right? Why didn’t they have a big litter of kids instead of just one?”

“My dad was an alpha bunny shifter; my mom was just human. My grandma said my mom had fertility problems. It’s likely the only reason she got pregnant at all is because rabbit shifters have such potent sperm. If she’d mated a human man, she never would’ve gotten pregnant at all.”

“I see,” I noted. “It’s a shame what happened to them. They looked like really nice people.”

“Yep,” Marlie nodded. “Now let’s just hope the same thing doesn’t happen to me.”

I nudged his shoulder and cast him a frown. “Stop that. You’ll be fine.”

  “We’ll see...” he hummed.

There was no possible way I’d ever let harm come to my sweet Marlie... or the potential babies growing in his belly. We had to get that rabbit’s foot back, and if we couldn’t... well, Marlie and the kids would probably have to live in a big plastic bubble for the entirety of their lives. Whatever it took to stay safe.

Another photo caught my attention. It was Marlie as a teenager, standing with an old couple. The woman was shorter than Marlie and a little hunched over. Her face was heavily wrinkled and her hair was wispy, but she wore the biggest, sweetest smile, and her blue eyes radiated warmth and kindness. The man stood with his arm around the woman, his other hand balancing on a cane. He looked a bit younger and more sprightly, but he was still quite weathered, with a messy head of Albert Einstein hair and big, bushy eyebrows in an upside-down V-shape.

“I’m guessing these are your grandparents,” I said.

“Yeah, that’s my grandma,” Marlie pointed. “But this guy’s Julio. He was my grandma’s boyfriend for the longest time. My real grandpa ran off and abandoned his family decades ago, so I never met him.”

“What happened to Julio?” I asked. “Did he also...”

Marlie shrugged. “I don’t have a clue. After my grandma died, he just kinda disappeared. I think her death was really hard on him. But...” Marlie glared at Julio’s face in the photo before turning away. “I really wish he had stayed. I could’ve used the support. He left me all alone.”

I put my arm around Marlie. My heart broke for the poor omega. Even before losing the rabbit’s foot, it seemed like he’d had a hard life, and that was so unfair because he hadn’t done anything to deserve it.

“I’m really sorry. I can’t imagine what that must feel like. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost my family. I’d be a mess.”

Marlie turned to me with a sad smile. “Don’t take them for granted. I’d give anything to have my grandma, my parents, even Julio back with me. But they’re all gone now... and I’ll never see them again. Now it’s just me, myself, and I.”

  “It was,” I corrected.

Marlie grinned and nodded. “Was. That’s right.”

My cell buzzed in the pocket of my jeans. I pulled it out to see an unfamiliar number flashing across the screen.

  “Logan speaking,” I answered.

“Uh, yeah, I’m calling about the lost rabbit’s foot?” The caller sounded young and he sported a California surfer dude accent.

  “Did you find it
?!” My heart skipped a beat. Marlie gasped, his eyes widening with excitement.

“Yeah dude,” the guy answered. “Found it outside in the snow at the college dorms.”

“Are you absolutely sure it’s the one?”

“Uh, I think so. Looks just like the photo on the flyer.”

The guy gave me his dorm room number and I told him we’d meet him in twenty minutes. As soon as I hung up, Marlie hopped into my arms, crashed his mouth against mine and curled his legs around my waist. I stumbled back against the wall, dropping my mug and splashing coffee all over the floor.

But little accidents like these didn’t matter anymore, because our luck was about to change.

  Marlie

Logan opened the door to the dormitory for me like a gentleman, and I stepped inside. I could hardly believe it. We’d made it all the way here without a single hitch. No car troubles, no fender benders, no slipping and sliding in the snow. Nothing. A giddy excitement buzzed throughout my entire body. Christmas miracles really do happen after all, I thought excitedly.

The day before yesterday I was just a lonely omega with no family and few friends, spending the holidays alone—again. Now, somehow, I’d found my fated mate, I was most likely pregnant with his babies, and we were about to get our lucky rabbit’s foot back.

  Everything was going swimmingly!

“Hey, what’s this?” Logan asked, stopping at the bulletin board in the hallway. “Annual Vale Valley Midnight Shifter Run?”

“Oh yeah,” I said. “That’s a ... a thing. All the town’s shifters gather together at midnight on Christmas Eve to run around. Kind of stupid if you ask me.”

“Stupid? No, that sounds really cool. Aren’t you gonna take part? I’d love to see it.”

Oh, this topic again. Great. If I was gonna pledge my heart to Logan, I’d have to spill the beans eventually. But the thought filled me with dread. I was terribly embarrassed by my inability to shift. It made me feel so inadequate. I knew I was technically a shifter—doctors had confirmed it—but actually calling myself a bunny shifter might have been a bit of a stretch.
