Reeves

“That’s it?” Elon Delorean listened to the recording again. Most of it had been muzzled and scuffled. His associate had been found, getting hit with the classic Adventurer amnesia stunt. For a whole five years, if not ten, he wouldn’t get the answers of what happened. Which he wasn’t going to wait for.

If he was no use to him, knew nothing of himself or his property, then it was better to just dispose of him. This part was upsetting though. His man Rick had worn a recorder, hit start when he sensed trouble, but he’d been thrusted around. All fuzz, except a couple of parts.

The phrase ‘sweet flower’, and ‘doesn’t tolerate profanity’. With the amnesia given, the man in question had to be an Adventurer. Where had Rick investigated? Well, he was dead now. Fine, scratch her. There were more than one that had JNSQ out there. Malformed hero gene. Once they fixed themselves, a normal person would have the qualities of a hero that had been hidden deep within.

Looking into sidekick programs would be a good start. Seraphina Medina was on the back burner now, he had more than one to find out there.

Tracy Johnson had found and hid more than her own sister. If he couldn’t get his hands on her, he’d find a substitute.

  The Castellar Colony

Seraphina rested her head on Reeves’ shoulder as they looked out on their new assigned sector in a brand-new colony. “Going from a Secret sector to a huge colony sector. It’ll be different.”

“We’ll spot trouble below.” He went over on the deck and looked down. “We’ll sense trouble. We’ll get called for trouble. Same thing, except no bandages required.” He smiled at her as he held her hand. A new sector. A new life. No one would ever come after his Seraphina Medina, no matter what. He’d always protect her. Even though she wasn’t a sidekick though, no one could stop her from helping. In a way, she’d be an unofficial sidekick, and that was perfect to him. Being by her side, through thick and thin, is all he ever wanted. He watched over the horizon as the lights of the colony started to descend into night.

“I’m still sorry,” she whispered to him. “No one plays out here. It’ll be so different. There won’t be advice given on what to do next time when you stop a fight or try to help. We’ll be fighting crime.”

“Fighting to protect what we cherish,” Reeves said to her. “That is still the same and I can handle that.”

“As long as no one cusses.” She gave him a slight smirk. “You can take out the naughty trash.”

He wrapped his arm around her. “I’ll take out the trash every day to keep our new sector clean.” He gave her a kiss on the head. “I will miss Hidden Secret, you are right. All I ever wanted to do is protect it. That’s the thing though. All I wanted to do was learn to protect the innocent.” He leaned his head against hers. “I never thought getting you off of medication would lead to me being an Adventurer, guarding a sector far away from Hidden Secret.” He held her hand. “I still wouldn’t have it any other way, Seraphina Medina.”

“Those big swings,” she said to him. “On that big playground where you stole your first kiss from me? They’ll always be inside of my heart, Reeves.” She squeezed his arm. “Forever.” As she said that, the lights went down and they went back inside to the rewot. To their bed. To their new future. To get ready for tomorrow.

Because no one could ever predict what happened tomorrow.
