“Kieran.” Her voice was like a caress and she continued in that low rumble she knew had a devastating effect on my willpower. “I’m not using it. I’m returning it.”
Her gaze was hypnotizing and I mumbled, “You’re…Wait, what?”
“I appreciate the trust you put in me.” She ran a fingertip down the length of my jaw. “And I appreciate your craftsmanship.”
“Craftswomanship,” I slurred, staring at her plump lips.
She leaned in and grazed her teeth along my earlobe. “Whatever you say, darling. I appreciate all that,” she whispered. “But I don’t want this anymore.”
My eyes rolled as her breath tickled my neck. I grabbed the knot of her tie and pushed her gently away. She was distracting me and I needed to clarify. “We agreed to discuss it again after a year. You have six more months.”
“I don’t need them.”
When she tried for my neck again, I planted my palm against her chest, not pushing but creating a barrier.
“Stop distracting me.”
She sighed and sat back, reaching for her drink, the devilish smile still in place. “But you like it when I distract you.”
“I do.” I grabbed hold of my drink to keep my greedy fingers from reaching out for her. “Very much. But what changed? You know it’s okay. I trust you.”
“I know you do and I love you for it.” She snatched up my free hand and kissed my knuckles before I could stop her. “Nothing changed, I just don’t want it anymore.”
I raised an eyebrow at her.
“I want it, but only from you. I’m not interested in anyone else at the moment.”
“And if that changes?”
“Then you get to indulge your crafty side again, but Kieran,” she trailed off, smiling at me. She did that sometimes. Just…looked at me with this goofy grin that was so utterly her and so utterly out of character at the same time. “I want to come home to you every night. That’s all I want.”
My smile was so wide it made tears prickle my eyes. “That sounds…really great.”
Pen leaned in, but instead of kissing me, she whispered against my lips, “I love you, Kieran.”
“I love you, too.” She brushed her lips against mine and I slipped a hand under her suit jacket. “Let’s go home.”
