Cheers to Friends and the Happy Hour Club

“I know what you’re all thinking.” Blake cleared his throat. “Why in the world would Blake and Caroline ask us to come over for dinner in the middle of the week with barely any warning?”

I looked from my handsome, infuriating man to all of my friends gathered around the dining room table in their Sunday best.

“Well, I am finally going to tell you,” Blake continued. “Caroline and I are getting married.”

I let it sink in for a few seconds before shouting out, “Tonight!”

“What?” Sawyer yelled, waking up the sleeping baby in her arms.

“I’ll take her,” Trace whispered as he scooped up baby Alice and rushed into the other room so her crying wouldn’t ruin the moment.

“We were thinking about eloping, but I couldn’t tie the knot without at least the seven of you,” I explained, pulling out a simple white veil and putting it on.

“The justice of the peace is going to be here in about twenty minutes, and we set up chairs and stuff in the back yard.”

“The one dinner party I don’t bring my camera for!” Sawyer threw her hands down onto the table.

Trace chimed in from the other room. “It’s in the car. Blake texted me before we left the house.”

“Man, the men in this group sure are sneaky,” Harper remarked as she got up to hug Blake and me.

“Without them, we wouldn’t be together.” I wrapped my arms around Blake’s middle, staring up into his gorgeous steel eyes.

“Without all of you saving career day, none of this would have happened,” Blake noted.

“Isn’t it funny how one little moment can change the tides of your life?” Rhett chuckled. “I think this group of misfits is the perfect example of that in more ways than one.”

“Enough of this sappy shit. I don’t want to be all puffy in my wedding photos.” I dabbed under my eyes with my fingertips.

Annie pulled me in close. “I am just so freaking happy for you!”

“Thank you,” I cooed, hugging her back. Sawyer and Harper joined in as the guys poured us all a round of champagne.

I took my glass, moving to stand in the middle of the group. “To friends who are family and happy hours that have changed our lives for the better.”

“Cheers!” they all sang out as we embraced the purest friendships anyone could ever ask for.
