Scott glanced toward Lizzie but could see from her scrunched expression that she had no idea what Luca was offering. Scott carefully took Beau from her arms, freeing her to reach for the envelope. He watched as she opened it, looking at the contents while showing him as well. It took a moment for his mind to settle on what his eyes were seeing, but as he heard Lizzie gasp, it struck them both.
“I’m giving you back the acres that your grandfather had sold to me. It’s a gift, free and clear.”
Lizzie’s mouth opened and closed several times, no words coming forth. Finally, she managed to sputter, “Luca, I don’t understand.”
Smiling, Luca replied, “My dear, it’s quite simple. I want you, Scott, and your son to have your full heritage of the entire original Weston Farm that’s been in your family for generations.”
Scott, inhaling the fresh baby scent of his son, loved the idea that he would have his heritage. Hearing a quick intake of breath, he looked over, seeing a single tear slide down Lizzie’s cheek. Holding Beau with one arm, he slid his free one around Lizzie, pulling her close.
Looking at Luca, he said, “This is very generous of you.”
“No, it’s just the right thing to do. Always on a quest for more sent the wrong message to my daughter. This is my way of rectifying that.” He stood, and Lizzie immediately jumped up, rushing to him.
Throwing her arms around him, she said, “Thank you. Thank you so much.”
Luca kissed her cheek before shaking Scott’s hand. Bending, he kissed Beau’s head before turning to leave. “I can see myself out. Take care and I’ll see you soon.”
Wrapping his arm around Lizzie, he bent to kiss her, her lips warm against his. They had a few more weeks before they could become intimate again, but he did not mind waiting. Just being with her, and now their son, made not only him but his whole world whole again.

About the Author
I am an avid reader of romance novels, often joking that I cut my teeth on the historical romances. I have been reading and reviewing for years. In 2013, I finally gave into the characters in my head, screaming for their story to be told. From these musings, my first novel, Emma’s Home, The Fairfield Series was born.
I was a high school counselor having worked in education for thirty years. I live in Virginia, having also lived in four states and two foreign countries. I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for thirty-five years. When writing, my dog or one of my four cats can generally be found in the same room if not on my lap.
