“No car today, huh? Can’t blame you.” Damien replied, smiling.
“Nope, chose to run. Too dangerous to drive. Besides I love a nice fresh powder beneath my paws. It’s better than the burrs. Those hurt to get out.”
Damien shrugged, glad he didn’t have to pull burrs from his paws. He’d had to pull them from his jeans and boot laces. That alone was miserable. “Have you eaten? I have some extra from breakfast. I woke up late so I didn’t make lunch.”
“No, I hunted before coming. Actually nailed a deer today.”
“Oh. Well, okay. I’m not too sure how to reply to that.”
Jill chuckled, making her way over to Damien to give him a kiss. “Next time I’ll bring you the antlers. I hear rumor your dad likes to hunt for trophies.”
Damien held up his hands. “No thanks. I wouldn’t know how to explain where I got them. Dad barely bought the whole truck in the ditch thing. Besides, that’s cheating. Hunters usually like to score their own bucks.”
Jill sat down on Damien’s bed, thankful to be out of the cold despite her thick fur.
Damien sat next to her, his nervousness reminding him of the arrangement he’d made for them that afternoon. “Jill, I love you. I didn’t think I could love anyone like this anymore. I want to be with you.”
Jill smiled, putting her finger to his mouth. “Shh. Don’t speak.”
Her lips met Damien’s in a soft kiss. Her hands drifted over the muscles in his arms under the sweatshirt he was wearing, back up his shoulders.
Damien nipped Jill’s lower lip, begging her to let him in to taste her mouth. Her tongue wrestled his at the opening of his mouth as he deepened their kiss. The sweet smell of jasmine hung thick in the air around Jill’s hair and body. The taste of mint from the gum she’d been chewing flooded his mouth, exciting him.
His hand kept a firm grip on her neck. His thumb traced the length of her collarbone as his lips traveled down to the groove in her neck where her throat met her shoulder. The heat in his body intensified the more he imagined making love with her.
Jill let her hands venture under Damien’s sweatshirt. Her fingers savoring every shallow hill and valley of the gorgeously developed muscles of his abs. She’d seen him shirtless before but feeling them ignited new and exciting sensations inside of her. She was beginning to see him as a mate.
Without thinking, she began to slowly push his shirt up, hoping he would let her remove it. Damien raised his arms above his head, letting Jill take off his sweatshirt. She dropped it to the ground, returning to fondling the beautiful man in her arms.
She let her mouth venture down his throat. The gentle patter of his heart as it heated his blood titillated her senses. Jill had to remember to stay in control. She didn’t want to risk hurting him despite her strong desire.
One slip of her fangs piercing his skin could change him on accident.
The breath in his lungs was more precious to her than even needing to hunt. She would do anything to protect him. To keep him human as long as she could.
Jill let her tongue roll over the flesh of Damien’s shoulder, his skin hot despite the cold outside. She rested her hand on his face, her thumb teasing his lips as she kissed his jaw up to his ear. He smelled so good. Dark and natural as though he were a lycan.
Damien pushed the jacket Jill was wearing down. Happy to find she let him remove it to the floor next to his shirt. His hands drifted over her shoulders as he peppered her porcelain skin with soft kisses.
He pulled Jill down onto the bed. They sat on their knees as Damien undid the latch on her bra, pulling it off to reveal her breasts to be even more beautiful than they had been in his dreams. The soft pink nipples enticed him to tease them until they turned red.
Jill’s hands held Damien’s hips as he teased her breasts with his mouth. Her thumbs pushed down on his belt loops so strongly she felt one rip.
Damien looked up at her.
“Uh…sorry, about that.” She replied, red with embarrassment.
Damien just smiled returning to her breasts, his hand holding her butt while the other rolled the round nub between his thumb and pointer finger.
Jill gritted her teeth as the heat between her legs rose. Damien’s tongue was so warm on her skin, she had to fight the wolf inside of her. A low growl rumbled in the back of her throat.
She pushed Damien back to lay on the bed, her eyes meeting those beautiful amethyst jewels she dreamed of every moment they were apart. Her hair fell like a satin curtain around them.
Damien guided Jill’s hair over one shoulder, pulling her back down to kiss him. Her hands tickled his chest moving slowly down his body until she gripped his hips.
He gritted his teeth, hissing in pain through them at how firm she held him. He didn’t want to ruin this moment by scaring her away so he kept quiet. There would probably be a bruise in the morning but he didn’t really care. He wanted Jill, to hold her. He wanted inside of her.
Damien felt the erection behind his zipper struggle against his jeans as his desire turned into lust. He rolled them over, surprising Jill with his sudden movements.
“May I have you, Jill? I want you so bad.” Damien asked, barely able to hold back his desires.
“Damien, if we make love, according to lycan law at least, we’re mates. I don’t want you to bind yourself to me if you aren’t ready.”
Damien kissed her, a hint of longing in the kiss. “Then we’re mates. I can’t be without you. It terrifies me to imagine a life without you, Jill. I couldn’t live in a world like that. I would rather you killed me.”
Jill smiled, petting his face. “I can’t be without you, either, Damien. Even as an immortal, a life without you would be hell.”
Damien’s heart raced in his chest. He’d long wanted to have sex with Jill but wanted to make sure she was ready so he’d waited.
He kissed her as his hands pushed her pants down, revealing her favorite high cut panties she liked to wear.
Jill kicked off her boots to let Damien finish taking her pants off, leaving her in her panties beneath him.
She gasped slightly as he slid his hand in her panties, his thumb finding the bundle of nerves between her wet folds. He rotated it in smooth circles to heighten her pleasure.
Her nails dug into Damien’s back as she restrained herself to avoid accidentally hurting him. His hand ran the length of her arching back, his thumbs tracing each flexing muscle in Jill’s side. His fingers explored every small groove in her back until he reached her hips.
The pleasure in her body made her muscles tremble in anticipation as Damien used his unoccupied hand to unbutton and unzip his jeans. He smiled Jill’s favorite crooked smile as he pushed them down. His underwear followed shortly after, leaving him naked above her.
Jill’s heart pounded at how beautiful and well-built he was. His body rivaling that of any lycan male she’d known. There was an ornate Celtic cross tattoo that lay across the skin of his hip, perfectly accentuating the deep-v of the muscles. Jill hadn’t noticed it before.
Damien removed Jill’s panties, kissing her deeply. She felt his tip at the opening of her sex. She gasped as he slid into her. His lips placing reassuring kisses on her neck as he made love to her.
Jill ran her nails down Damien’s back, relishing the hard muscles as they flexed with each movement he made. Luna, he felt so good. Reaching every part of her in need of his attention. She clenched her fangs as she felt herself reaching her climax.
The heat of Damien’s body drove her primal senses wild as he thrust into her. Damien’s own low growl escaped his throat as he felt his own climax drawing near. Jill was tighter than he thought she would be. He actually had to work to get into her.
The sounds Jill was making made Damien’s eyes roll into the back of his head with pleasure. His balls tightened as he came close to filling the woman he loved. Finally he was claiming her as his.
“Damien!” Jill called out his name as her orgasm rippled through her body. Her muscles sq
ueezing him pushed him just enough, his own orgasm rocked through his body. He pushed into her as far as he could filling her with as much of him as he was able.
The muscles in his arms trembled as he struggled to hold himself up. He pulled out of her to sit beside her on the bed, panting in an attempt to catch a breath.
Jill’s chest heaved as she tried to catch her own breath. She rolled onto her stomach, panting to try to cool down from the intense heat.
“When did you get your tattoo?”
“I got it for my eighteenth birthday. It’s on my hip because I thought my dad would have killed me since I didn’t ask first. To be honest, I don’t think he knows even now that I have it. You know cops and tattoos. You have one, you’re a gang affiliate.” Damien chuckled at his own joke.
Jill heaved out a labored laugh. “It’s beautiful. Very nice ink work. You felt amazing.”
“Thanks. I’d like to think I’m somewhat good at sex despite this being my first time.”
“Really? You could have fooled me.”
“Nope. First time. No experience.”
Jill snuggled into Damien’s chest. “Well, it was wonderful.”
Damien guided her face up to look at him, kissing her lips. “It won’t be the last time, Jill. That much I can promise you.”
Chapter Nineteen
“Dame! I’m home!” the sound of Charlie’s voice brought Damien’s attention to his return.
Damien got up to find that Jill left him a note letting him know she’d gone out hunting. He felt sore in his hips from where she held onto him during their love making. He looked in the mirror to find that one of them had actually gotten bruised.
Damn. I’ll have to hide that or she’ll never touch me again. Damien thought to himself as he put on his underwear, jeans and sweatshirt. When the hell did I fall asleep?
His phone vibrated on his bedside. The screen lit up showing Rob’s name.
Oh boy. Damien thought answering it.
“Dude, Chelsea came by again last night. What the hell is going on, D? She told me if I wanted to know what all the drama was about, I should 'ask Damien about it'. What'd your girlfriend do? I want to stay friends, D but I can't if you don't tell me what's going on.”
“Rob, I'll try to explain things as soon as I can but for now, don’t talk to Chelsea. She isn't the same girl we grew up with, okay. She'll say whatever she can to poison you against me and get you to accept an offer you probably wouldn't want to and regret almost immediately. We've been friends for a long time. I'm asking you to trust me.”
“D, since you've met this Jill chick, you haven't been the same. The hell she done to your mind, bro!? What's your problem all of a sudden?!”
Damien squeezed the phone, his teeth clenched tightly. He couldn’t hide his frustration anymore. “My problem is for years I've tried to pretend I was something I wasn't! I just drifted through life like no one looked at me like I was some sort of circus freak! I actually thought the accident was my fault! That I was the one messed up and everyone had the right to look at me like they did!”
“Wow, I'm sorry, D. I might not understand the full extent of what it is that's going on but I'll be careful the next time Chels shows up.” Rob replied, flabbergasted at Damien’s sudden outburst.
“No, Rob. Don't talk to her, don’t let her into your house. As she is, she won't hesitate to kill you or your family. She threatened to kill me to keep me away from Jill.” Damien replied, his voice low and stern.
“No way! Dude, she's had like a major crush on you forever!”
“Rob, just trust me. Don't let her in and don't talk to her.” Damien hung up the phone, putting back on the desk.
After the rather disturbing phone call with Rob, Damien made his way downstairs to find his father in the living room.
“Morning, dad. Glad you finally made it back from the station. Everything go okay?” He asked, his mood sullen.
“Yeah, it went fine. Electricity stayed on so we managed to keep warm. You do okay here?”
Damien took his coffee and sat down only to have to get back up to answer a rather desperate knock on his door. He opened it to stare into the eyes of Chase. He appeared out of breath and slightly upset.
“Chase? I don’t think I’ve ever had you at my house. What’s wrong?”
Chase took a moment to calm down. “Damien, my alpha sent me. I need you to come with me, now. Something happened while Jill was hunting.”
“Is she hurt?” Damien replied, inviting Chase in so he could get his boots and jacket.
“No but, she’s not okay either. Hurry.”
Damien grabbed his keys, wallet and phone. “Dad, I’m going out. See you later.”
“Okay, be careful!”
Damien followed Chase to the wood’s edge, parking his motorcycle next to Holt’s truck before hitching a ride on the wolf to Holt’s camp.
Kain met him at the entrance. “I am glad you’re here. She needs to see you.”
“Where is she?” Damien replied, nervous.
Kain nodded his head towards the direction of the tent belonging to Leah, Holt’s mate.
Leah hugged Damien upon seeing him. “Damien, thank Luna. She’s in my tent, it was awful. I’ve never seen her so upset.”
Damien walked through the flap to find Jill kneeling facing the wall. “Jill? Are you okay?”
Jill rose slowly from where she was kneeling, turning around to reveal a small bundle of blankets in her arms.
Damien felt his heart shatter. The blankets were in the shape of a small body.
“This is what they do. They kill without remorse. I rescued her from werewolves, nursed her wounded leg and thought she would be okay. She passed away just as you walked up.” Jill choked back on the emotions in her heart. The hope dwindled in her eyes as she held the pup close before putting it down on the floor.
When Jill rose back up, Damien wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into him and petting her hair. He rested his finger under her chin, guiding her eyes to meet his own.
“I'm so sorry, Jill.” Pain filled his eyes as he lowered his lips to hers, tasting the cold of the night along with the sorrow flooding her heart.
Jill held onto his jacket so tightly, she thought she would rip it. “Damien, I’m not sure my heart can take much more. I’m losing hope.”
“Jill, you have to hope. It’s all that’s left. My mom used to say when you’ve hit rock bottom there’s only one way to go. I would say we’re at the bottom, wouldn’t you? Lilith won’t get away with this. I won’t let her.” Damien answered, determined to make Lilith pay for what she’d done.
Jill smiled, kissing him. “I have something I want to show you. Come with me.” Jill took his hand, leading him through the encampment. A large tent on the outer perimeter had been put up just so they had a place to stay when they visited.
The inside of the tent was more ornate than the others, almost as if it were built as a small temple to honor a deity. The carpets a mix of rich royal blues and purples with golden hems and tassels.
The bed was more like something one would see in a hotel. It was much larger with silk sheets and a comforter that was deep red. The pillows adorned with silken cases.
“Wow, Jill. Why all the over the top décor?” Damien asked, a bit overwhelmed.
Jill zipped the door closed and began to undress. “This is from Yuna and Galeck. They insisted the keeper of the Purifier’s soul should be treated as someone next to royalty.”
“I'm not sure I'm okay with this. I don't want any special treatment. I'm not even sure what a Purifier is or what I'm supposed to do as one.” Damien replied, feeling strange for being presented with such elaborate gifts.
“Yuna is very traditional. She insisted on doing this for Gabriel too but he refused.”
“Gabriel? Why him?” Damien asked, curious.
Jill looked away, cursing herself for saying what she did. “He’ll tell you when he’s ready. He doesn’t really like to talk about it
.”
Damien was curious but he wasn’t going to pry. He and Gabriel weren’t exactly on the best grounds for friendship.
“Jill, what happened? You left me a note to tell me you went hunting and then Chase shows up at my door. I can only imagine it has something to do with the pup.”
“Kain assigned Chase as your night watch last night. You’ve had a lycan on you since the incident with Lilith. As for the pup, werewolves attacked her mother without any reason. There were four of them. She never had a chance. I managed to kill them and thought the pup would be okay but she died. I’m pretty sure it was from a broken heart.” Jill ran her thumb over her eyes to hide her tears.
“Anyway, I’m glad you came, Damien. I wasn’t doing so well this morning. I nearly called you but I didn’t want to wake you. Is your hip okay? I know I was a little rough.”
“It’s…fine.” Damien lied to avoid worrying Jill since she’d already had so much on her plate. “Rob called me this morning.”
“What’d he say?”
“Chelsea dropped by his house again last night. Some of the things she said. I just can’t believe she would do this. I never would have seen this coming.” Damien dropped his head in his hand in disbelief, his other one propped on his hip.
“Damien, that’s what happens. Sometimes the change brings out the worst in people. It’s one reason why we never turn anyone unless we know for certain their souls are pure. Most vampires are less careful. They turn people on a whim. I did tell you, didn’t I? This life, this world. It’s not for the faint of heart.” Jill replied, wrapping her arms around Damien’s waist, her cheek rested on his back against his jacket.
Damien took Jill’s hands in his. The worry for his father and Rob’s safety grew stronger as he thought about Chelsea.
If the vampires had gotten to Chelsea so easily without anyone knowing then what could stop them from getting to his dad or Rob?
Everything began spinning out of control so quickly, Damien couldn’t help but think it was because he came back to Big Timber.
“It’s all my fault. If only I would have gone after her at the college that day. Maybe I could have saved her.” Damien said, his grip on Jill’s hands firm with frustration.
