Jill had been elected to take on Lilith. Now, there was no way he was letting her fight. Not when she was carrying his children.

The sudden wrapping of Jill’s arms around his waist brought Damien’s attention to the beautiful woman in front of him.

  “I’m so glad.”

A squeak escaped Jill’s throat as Damien quickly lifted her onto his hips. The thin material of her athletic shorts barely a shield against the hard length behind his own shorts.

His lips met hers in passionate love. “Jill, I want you. Nothing is going to stop me from taking you this time.”

Jill’s ice green eyes turned into the half-closed bedroom eyes Damien came to love. “As you wish, my alpha.”

Damien couldn’t stop the feral side of him that wanted to make love to her so badly he almost tore her shorts and panties to pieces as he pulled them off. Holding Jill up with one hand he pulled his own shorts and underwear down to his knees freeing his full erection from its prison.

Jill licked her lips as her mate’s tip pressed against her slick folds. Her hands gripped the sheets in anticipation.

“Someone needed me, didn’t she?” That crooked grin that Jill loved so much fell across her lover’s face. He pulled her towards him until her lower back sat on the edge of the bed. His body was hot against her skin as he pressed into her. She clenched her teeth as the small, swollen opening struggled to take his full girth.

As he thrust into Jill, Damien let his thumbs caress the soft skin of her thighs, his face buried between her throat and collarbone.

She felt so hot inside. The velvet walls squeezed around him, taking every inch of him that they could. It was pure ecstasy. He decided to take his time, savoring every thrust of his cock. His hands fondled her breasts, making her nipples harden and turn to a bright red.

Sweat glistened on her hard stomach, now full with his children. Her raven hair spread out above her. Damn it, she’s so beautiful. She’s mine.

Damien leaned over, his breath hot in his lover’s ear. “You’re mine. All mine.”

Jill turned her head to the side to allow him access to her neck. As he peppered it with kisses. His fangs brushed against her porcelain skin.

Her voice labored, just above a whisper as she said his name. “Damien…”

Her nails dug into the muscles in his shoulder blades, making him growl with primal excitement. Not much longer and he would bury himself so deeply into her warmth she would never want him to leave.

Making love to Jill never felt awkward, it felt natural. As though her body were made for him as he was for her.

Jill’s screams as her orgasm hit her excited Damien. Her nails dug into his shoulder blade and back making him eager. He bit down on her shoulder, his fangs tasting her soft flesh as he pushed one more thrust into her. His own orgasm sending his warmth as far as he could go inside of her.

When Damien released his hold on Jill’s shoulder, her flesh was bruised. “I’m sorry, Jill.”

Laboring, Jill giggled. “It’s okay. I have longed for your fangs to find my flesh more often while making love.” Jill kissed Damien, gently nipping his lip. “Just so you know though, now that you’ve bitten, it’s free game.”

Damien swallowed hard, wondering just how much trouble he’d unanticipatedly gotten himself into.

  Chapter Twenty-Seven

A hazy mist ghosted its way through the camp, a cold breeze signaling the sign of the coming of the winter storms. Damien shivered as he stepped out of the warmth of his tent. Wrapping his jacket tight around himself, he walked down to the stream to get some water.

Kain stopped him. “Good morning. Would you mind bringing me back some water so I can make breakfast. The pups are practically begging for flapjacks this morning. Woke me up at the crack of dawn.” He slightly laughed, handing Damien the black pot he usually used to make stew.

“Sure. I can do that.” Damien took a second to think before he asked what he wanted to since the fight with Nathaniel the day before. “Kain. May I ask you something?”

Kain’s head tilted to the side. A pup ran around his legs, begging him to pick it up. “Of course. Anything.” He fell to his haunches, picking the pup up before rising back to his feet.

“You still don’t have a beta, do you?”

“No, I hadn’t chosen one yet. Why?”

Damien ran his hand through his hair down his neck, looking at the ground. “I’m not ready to be an alpha. I don’t know the first thing about leading a pack. I want to learn more. Would you be willing to take me under your wing as your beta until I’m ready?”

Kain stood silent, his eyes widened in surprise. The pup snuggling into his chest had begun falling asleep in the warmth and comfort of his jacket. “I would be glad to. It would be an honor.”

  “Thanks. I’ll be back soon.”

The pot almost finished filling with water when Damien closed his eyes, taking a deep breath as the familiar scent filled his nostrils.

He rose to his feet, turning his attention to the vampire that had made herself known despite the sun rising.

“Hello, Dame.” Chelsea stood in the shadows of the rocks to stay out of the sun’s light.

“Chels. I’m surprised to see you again. What do you want?” Damien’s sense of caution made him leery. He kept his back from being exposed to avoid a surprise attack.

Surprisingly, the look on Chelsea’s face was downtrodden. “I just wanted to see you again. I’m sorry for what I did the last time we saw each other. I still see you as a friend, Dame. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t give us a chance to be together. You know how much I still care about you. I know you do.”

“Chels, I’ve told you this so many times since we were kids, okay. I wasn’t ready for a relationship. I had too many things I had to deal with. You remember how long it took me to even say anything to you and Rob the first time you came up to me? I was messed up.” Damien’s chest tightened as he thought about his encounter with Barghast.

The memories of how many times he was nearly killed only to be saved by Jill. The pain at Rob’s abandonment. He was still trying to cope with all of it and now he’d had his own kid on the way.

“Chels, it doesn’t matter what you may say. Nothing excuses you from what you’ve done. Why in the hell would you sink so low to become the jealous monster you are? I never would have expected this from you.”

Chelsea sighed. “I lied, Damien. I never wanted this. After I left you on the campus, I spent most of the night sobbing into my sheets. I was hurting so bad because I loved you so much I just didn’t understand why you were so against us even trying,”

She paused. Damien could see she was trying to hold back her tears. “I went for a walk that night and sat down on a bench under the trees near the shopping center. That’s when he showed up. He sat down and was so kind to me. He asked why I was so upset. I mentioned I was having guy trouble so he asked me to go on.”

Despite her pale complexion, Damien thought he saw a hint of shame. “He offered to take me to a hotel so I went with him. I was so upset Damien. I know I shouldn’t have gone but I was hurting so bad! The thought of someone actually caring about the pain that you would turn me away despite all those times I stood up for you against the evil things people would say made me feel better inside!”

More tears broke free of their cold prison sending jolts of pain through Damien’s heart to learn she had been hurting so badly.

“I didn’t know what was going on. We were having sex and the next thing I know, there’s this cold running through my body. It was so cold, it was burning. I passed out and the next minute I’m looking up at Lilith. I never wanted this, Damien. He just did it to me.”

“Who, Chels?” Damien’s fangs elongated at how angry he was.

It didn’t matter that Chelsea hadn’t understood what was going on. She was still one of the only ones who stood by him after everyone else labeled him a freak. “Who did this to you?”

Chelsea choked, brushing a strand of golden hair away from her face. “Stoker. It was Stoker.”

A growl, more wolf than man rose from Damien’s throat. He’d already owed Stoker for all he’d done. He probably did what he did only to get back at Damien.

“He’ll pay for this. I promise you, Chels. He’ll pay for what he’s done.” Damien’s fist clenched at his side. His nails drawing blood from his palm.

“It doesn’t matter, Damien. Stoker isn’t the one who drove me to this madness,” Chelsea’s eyes glowed a ruby red. Her eyes staring lustfully at his dripping hand. “This is all your fault, Damien Pierce. If you would have only given me a chance. If I can’t have you, there’s no way in hell I’m letting that mangy slut keep what should be mine!”

Damien barely had time to move when Chelsea ran at him, hitting him in the chest. The force was hard enough to knock him into the pool. Coughing up water, he rose to his feet, shaking off the dizziness.

Before Chelsea could hit him again, she froze in the shadows.

Damien shook the water from his face to see Kain.

“It would appear I came just in time. I must admit, it is a surprise to see a vampire risk so much just to satisfy her own petty jealousy.” Kain straightened from his leaning position against a nearby tree.

“Stay out of this, Kain! It has nothing to do with an outcast like you!”

“An outcast? Really? I can see Stoker has been telling lies again. Be that as it may, I am not below silencing a newborn who has yet to even break in her new fangs. Leave or I will make sure you will despise the day you were turned.” Kain began stepping slowly towards her, giving Damien time to get out of the water.

“Calen, come back here!” A mother’s call to her pup grabbed the attention of both lycans. A small pup ran towards Damien only to be snagged by Chelsea and raised as a shield.

“Chelsea, no! Don’t!” Damien tried to reason with his friend. “Please, don’t do this!”

The pup began whimpering as the vampire’s hold grew tighter. “Let me go or I’ll kill it. I mean it Kain. Back the fuck off or I’ll kill this mangy dog.” Smirking she squeezed tighter, making the pup begin to gasp for air.

“Calen!” The mother tried to push by Kain only to be stopped. “No! My baby!”

Something inside Damien snapped. The pup’s whimpers of pain combined with his mother’s pleas for his life sent waves of pure rage through him.

Without thinking he threw his full weight into the air, shifting mid-jump to land on Chelsea. The pup went flying as she tried to stop him only to find her neck pierced by his fangs. Her blood flowing from her jugular vein in pools of black tar.

Kain picked up the pup, handing him back to his mom.

“Thank you. Thank you, Kain.” She held Calen close, kissing his furry cheek.

“It’s not me you should be thanking.” Kain’s expression turned sullen as he focused on the sight in front of him.

Damien knelt on the ground holding his friend as she lay dying. Her head resting in his lap.

  “Damien? Where am I?”

Damien’s surprised eyes met Chelsea’s own crystal blue. She was once again the friend he remembered. Not the dark, jealous vampire she had become. “I’m here, Chels. You’re with me.”

A tired smile fell across her face as she reached up to touch Damien’s face. “Did I…get the ball we lost in old man Jamison’s yard?”

Damien’s heart sank. Chelsea had gone back to a memory when they were kids. They had been playing with a soccer ball in the front yard of his parents’ house and accidentally kicked it into the grumpy neighbor’s yard. Chelsea had gone to get it since she was the only one that could fit through the broken fence posts.

“Yes, Chels. You did.” Damien replied, trying not to break.

She smiled, tears falling down her face. “I’m glad. I know…it was…your favorite ball.” Her eyes closed. The sun peeking through the clouds fell on her body, rendering it into nothing but ash.

Damien didn’t move, his lap was covered in the remains of one of his dearest friends. His heart torn to pieces that things had gotten so out of control. If only I hadn’t…come back…

“Kain, have you seen Damien?” Jill’s worried voice alerted the alpha who seemed deep in thought. He was still trying to make dinner for the begging, hungry pups.

“I’m sorry Jillian, I haven’t seen him since this morning. I will go look for him if you want to take this over,” Kain handed her the ladle he had been using to make his homemade chili. “Be careful. Some of them are so hungry they’re biting.”

Jill shook her head, taking the spoon. A concerned expression on her face. “I will. Thank you, Kain.”

When Kain found him, Damien had isolated himself in the Circle of Stones. His back leaned against them. The look in his amethyst eyes fierce as he stared at the ground.

“There you are. I have been looking for you. May I join you?” Damien didn’t say anything so Kain sat down next to him. “Jillian is worried about you. Perhaps you should at least send her a howl so she knows you are alright?”

Damien continued to ignore him, clasping Chelsea’s blue bird necklace her mom had given her for Christmas in his hand. She’d worn it almost every day in her life. It had been hidden among her ashes.

“Damien, I understand how you feel. It grieves me to see you go through such pain.”

“Does it, Kain?” Damien’s voice was full of anger and sadness as he cut Kain off. “Does it grieve you?”

“Damien, calm down. I had to kill a friend too, remember? She became a werewolf so I had to hunt her down and kill her with my own fangs. We have all lost loved ones in this war.”

“I didn’t have to! I wasn’t a part of this! I should never have come back to this place!” Damien threw his fist into the stone behind him so hard his knuckle cracked against the pressure.

“What about Jillian? You love her, do you not? Our world is not for the weak of heart, Damien. We lose loved ones. We bury our pups and have to hide to avoid being killed. Still we find reasons and people to keep living for,” Kain rose from his seat.

As he prepared to leave, he turned around. “What are your reasons to keep living? Who are the people that would grieve if they lost you?”

Damien felt his heart grow lighter as Kain’s words began to sink in. He had lost some friends but gained a family. “You’re right, Kain. I’m sorry I lost my temper with you. Things have just gotten so insane.”

“It is alright. I have been through it a few times. You are allowed to hurt, to grieve. However, in the wake of war is not the time to mourn those you have lost,” A howl in the distance made Kain’s ears perk towards the town. “That was Vincent. We need to go back.”

Kain began running back towards the camp, shifting mid-run into his wolf form. Damien joined him, tripping as he went from two legs to four.

Kain has got to teach me how to change like that.

Holt stood with Gabriel, Lune, Jill and Clint when the two lycans returned. Both shifting into their human forms.

“There you two are. Where in sun’s hell have you been?” Holt greeted Kain with a hard pat on his shoulder.

“Learning a lesson.” Kain looked over his shoulder at Jill. She was kissing Damien smack on the lips, passionately.

Gabriel handed him a pair of jeans and his favorite plaid jacket. “Glad you found him. Vincent told us that Lilith is on the move. Apparently, she’s heading this way. We better stop her from getting too far into the forest. We can’t risk being found,” Gabriel shook his friend’s hand. “Damien, we have to be heading out. You two can pillow talk later.”

Jill flipped him off, kissing Damien on the lips again before nudging him away, smirking as she walked back into her tent.

“Woman is still a total badass.” Gabriel snickered as he ran his hand through his dark hair.

  “I’m ready. Where’re we going?”

  “A rather undesired meeti
ng.” Kain’s gaze intensified as he followed the other alphas out of the camp towards Holt’s truck.

Damien followed closely. His gut churning at the idea that he would have to see the vampires again so soon.

  Chapter Twenty-Eight

Holt stood next to his truck, the only one in his human form. Damien, Kain, Gabriel and Lune all flanked him, ready to defend him if needed.

Lilith stepped out of the black limousine after her guard, as big as a bouncer, opened the door for her.

Rayes stayed sitting on his black Harley motorcycle. His leg propped up on the saddle with a rather smug look on his face despite the cigarette he smoked. Stoker got out of the other side of the limo.

The glare of utter hate and vengeance met Damien’s eyes. Damien growled, his muscles tensed as he tried to stay in place.

“We come under the flag of parlay, dog. We give our words to keep the peace as long as you do the same. Got it?” Lilith said, disgusted.

Holt uncrossed his legs and arms, stepping forward. “Fine with me, bloodsucker. So, what’s this little soiree about?”

Lilith looked at the new white wolf. Smirking, she addressed Holt. “Shut your trap, mutt. I refuse to talk to you. However,” Lilith seductively walked forward, her eyes locked hungrily on Damien. “I will talk to him. I missed you, precious.”

“He’s not your concern, parasite.” Holt spat angrily at Lilith’s disrespect. A low growl escaping his throat.

“Either Damien talks to me or we slaughter more humans in a fortnight than the rotten deer you pathetic beasts hunt in an hour. The beauty of it is, we can make sure the humans think it’s rabid wolves.” Lilith smirked a wicked grin, kicking her hip out.

Damien gritted his teeth. He didn’t want to shift in front of Lilith and give her the satisfaction of seeing him in his full glory. After glancing at Kain, he dropped his head. If he refused, the pack would be in even more danger.
