Silence of the Bones: A Murder Force Crime Thriller Page 21

by Adam J. Wright

The Gibson case was the big news of the moment. Since the house at Miller’s Dale had been virtually torn down, and the cellar ripped up, the case had been on the front pages of the newspapers every day.

  Britain’s New House of Hell

Police Find Horrors in Killer’s Cellar

The fact that so many bodies had been recovered from the house meant that Tony’s date with Alina had never happened. She’d been called out to the house and had been snowed under with work since. They’d spoken on the phone a couple of times, but so far, their work had kept them apart.

  That was about to change.

The door to the mortuary office was open. Tony poked his head in and saw Alina standing at the edge of the room, peering through a microscope on the counter. She looked up and saw him.

  “Tony!”

He entered the room and held up the paper bag in his hand. “I was wondering if you were hungry.”

“What is this? You have brought me lunch?” She went to a sink and washed her hands. “I can take a quick break. It is so busy here, I might actually go crazy.” She led him out of the office. “The eating area is down here. Come on.”

He walked next to her, the smell of food drifting tantalisingly from the bag in his hand.

“You made that yourself?” she joked.

“Straight from MacDonald’s. To me, this is gourmet cuisine.”

She laughed. “Oh, Tony, I have so much to teach you.”

He smiled. He’d like that. He’d like that a lot.
