Evacuation Page 16

Kane had laughed and told him, “Yeah, we labor constantly under the delusion you may one day be a good leader. It certainly helps me sleep at night.”

When once again Darian muttered his frustration about the inability to find any of their trading partners it proved to be one time too many.

“If you had been willing to weave Sky to Breanna we would have no problems finding him. And from him we could find Daccus and the ship, but no, you refused. And why did you refuse? You liked Sky but he had the audacity to fall for a sorcerers daughter. Oh the horror. I blame you entirely for us not being able to at least find Captain Daccus and everyone on his ship. And another thing, if we do find Daccus, you will immediately weave Sky to his mate and thus to our tapestry.” From sarcasm to bitter Kane left no doubt of his feelings in the matter.

“Skycanrion had no business getting involved with the sorcerers. I made them off limits to all our trade partners for a reason.”

“Darian, were I you, I don’t think I would keep calling him Skycanrion. Chances are you will be around him one day and forget to call him Sky. I have heard his reaction when someone uses his full name is not pleasant.” Darian just shrugged at this reminder.

When Malory suddenly sat up in his chair the others were quick to turn their attention to him. He had the unfocused look that told them he was communicating with his dragon. Soon he was mouthing a conversation with her. The Lyra, having been through the process of learning to talk to their own dragons were not surprised when these instances occurred. Learning to focus inward and talk to your dragon was a skill which took time to learn. Malory had been learning this skill for less than three weeks, it would be many more weeks before he became proficient. As it stood now the Lyra had only to listen to Malory and his one sided conversation to get a general idea of what was going on through the portal.

The men were soon smiling at what they were hearing. They would have to wait to get the full conversation from Malory but from what they were hearing Tresimiaset was ready to open the next portal. By the days end they would have the portal over the one in Central and could begin moving soldiers and builders through. They would also open the first portal to a plain full of tasty herd animals and would be able to send a breeding pair of their own herd animals through. And the other Lyra were requesting hunters for the herd animals on the other side. They had not found an island yet but they had found some coves perfect for fishing villages.

Soon Malory brought his attention back to the Lyra in front of him and almost turned his chair over when he realized how focused on him the others were, especially Darian. Had the chair been less sturdy no one doubted it would have gone over backwards.

“So, um Tresimiaset sent a message. She said we can start getting things ready to move. She did not need me at Central to set the anchor to the portal room since the portal room already had an anchored portal. She wants us to go to Giliad’s herd land and anchor the portal she will open there later. She anchored the portal at Central earlier and she said she will be in place to open a portal to a herd land soon. She said while you get things going on our end she will be flying to the cove she found for Frain’s people. She said to remind you to send the soldiers and Kervin’s Elite through at Giliad’s place. And to send soldiers and Trista’s Elite through at Frain’s.”

Darian smiled, “We sent soldiers to both places days ago.” Looking at his bond brothers he began to laugh, “Finally, finally we can start this move.”

And thus began the move to a new land, on a new planet rich with food and a sentient race they had just not found yet. But they would, in the most disastrous way. The trade partners they left behind would find the letters and the instructions Darian insisted on leaving. They would find the portals and when they followed through they would have a few words to say to the ones who abandoned them on a dying world.
