Hoodwives & Rich Thugs of Chicago 2 Page 9

by Tina Marie

“Please, I will take anything. I am having another baby and I cannot take care of two kids with no job.” I was straight begging her and I knew the whole store could hear and I didn’t even give a fuck. Jobs, especially ones with commission were hard to come by. She didn’t even respond just stood there with a look of pity on her face.

Suddenly the door to the bathroom opened and Chaos came out with Darcy not far behind. I felt like someone had smacked the fuck out of me. “What the fuck you out here begging for? I thought I told you this job shit was done, I got you.” Chaos came over and tried to pull me into his arms, but the fact he just got done doing God knows what with Darcy made me step back.

Running out of the store I tripped on the sidewalk and fell to the ground. I sat there holding my belly praying my baby was ok. I just couldn’t get it right. Not shit right. My mother knew what a fuck up I was all along. “Cayane, come on ma. Don’t do this shit. I was in here getting rid of Darcy ass not messing wit her. I know the shit looks bad, but I swear it wasn’t like that. Just let a nigga love you Cay and stop playing. I’m sorry I flipped about the baby, Ashlee told me you weren’t getting rid of it. A nigga was just hurt.”

Chaos picked me up and held me in his arms. He didn’t smell like sex or cheap perfume and I wanted to believe everything he was saying, but my pride was hurt. “Ma listen, I ended shit with her the other day and she tried to blackmail me. I was just following up with her ass to make sure she understood I still wasn’t fucking wit her. It’s only been you since I brought you home. Don’t cry, it ain’t good for my baby. I was coming home today to you and Kahlan. I know I fucked up I should have listened to you. I just ain’t used to listening much, I’m sorry ma.”

Ashlee had told me to just give him time and he would be back, but I didn’t believe her. I knew I was wrong for keeping our baby a secret, especially since he was really holding me down. I buried my face in his neck and held on to him. “Ca’shon, I’m sorry. I love you.” I couldn’t stop crying, probably these fucking hormones.

“You gotta stop with the games Cay. I ain’t Juice, I’m never gonna put my hands on you or our kids. I ain’t never gonna leave you out here to struggle. Now come on and let’s go home, I missed my pussy.” That made me laugh even though I knew his ass was serious. “Just give a nigga a chance and let me be ya’ man.”

  “Ok Chaos, let’s go home.”

  Epilogue

I shook hands and mingled with everyone that I could that opening night. Culinary school was way behind me and this night was a special one because it was the grand opening of my restaurant. All of my loved ones and friends were there and even though I thought he’d not show his face, my father-in-law came to support and congratulate me. Thank God there was no blood shed, and my husband had finally agreed to make a mends with his father, since he had ended his affair with Rita and was making an honest attempt to salvage the relationship with his son. Street business was still in full effect, but that didn’t stop my father-in-law from allowing my husband to finance the expansion of his mega church. There were no more evil eyes, and silent encounters and I believed that God had finally allowed Pastor Morgan to accept his son and I had no problems with that at all.

“So, bestie, do you need anything at all?” Cay asked.

“No, Cay we got it,” Tam smiled. “You and your fiancé get outta here and go and enjoy each other.”

“Was I talkin’ to you,” Cay snapped back.

I quickly intervened. “Cay, go home, Tam and I got it,” I said.

“Okay bestie. I will go, because Chaos is ready to put another baby up in me,” she joked.

“Can y’all at least wait until the honeymoon. I mean the wedding is right around the corner.”

“We’ll try,” Cay said and started rolling her curvy hips.

“Get yo’ nasty ass out of here girl,” I laughed.

“Aw’ight. I gotta get home to my babies anyway. Chaos talking about let the sitter stay and we go get a room, girl I’m not leaving her ass with my son and daughter all night. That’s an O’ move,” she joked, and we laughed.

  “Indeed,” I said.

“Well I’m out and Ashlee please go and get some rest. I mean, I see you and this restaurant business is wearing you down. This week we need a spa day and I’m not taking no for an answer.”

“Okay, Cay, now go,” I ordered. She made an exit and then I turned to my baby sis. “Tam, I know you have to pick up your son, so you don’t have to stay long. I just want to put away some of this food in the cooler and then we can call it a night. The cleaning service will be here in the morning,” I said and then grabbed the counter to keep from falling.

“Ash, sis, are you okay?” Tam asked rushing to my side.

  “I’m fine sis, just tired.”

“You need some water? You look flushed.” As soon as she said it. I raced to the trash can. I vomited all the contents that were in my stomach.”

“Ash, are you okay? Should I call Nicco, or take you to the hospital?”

“No, no, no sis, I’m fine. I’m okay,” I said taking the napkin she handed me and then I wiped my mouth.

“Was it something you ate? I mean, the food tonight was divine and if you got sick you need to fire these muthafucka’s before they ruin your business,” she ranted.

“No, sis, no, it’s nothing like that.”

“Then what is it Ash,” she questioned.

I turned and looked at my baby sis and smiled. “I’m pregnant. Nicco and I are pregnant.” Her mouth opened, but no words came out. She just pulled me in for a tight hug. She held me for what seem like hours and I let her. Cay and I were thick as thieves, but the last couple of years I focused on making Autumn feel like my sister. We were closer than we had ever been and even though she knew that Chaos took her baby father’s life, Juice was an afterthought.

“How? When sis?” she asked. “I know how, but you guys stopped infertility a year ago.”

“Yes, and then I just went back to love making and not baby making. I just fell in to enjoying life, building a sisterhood with you, graduating, and remodeling this place. I felt I was for about two months and I was so terrified to take the test, but I did this morning and it was positive. I haven’t even told Nicco. You are the first person I’ve told.”

Her eyes welled. “Me and not Cay?” she asked surprised.

“Yes, you and then I’ll tell Nicco and then Cay,” I smiled. She hugged my neck so tight.

“Thank you Ashlee and you are going to be the best mom on this planet.”

“Thanks sis,” I said. We wrapped everything up and I headed home. When I walked in, my husband had soft music, candles and he greeted me with a kiss. “Wow, baby what’s all of this,” I asked.

“Just a little something to celebrate you, and to tell you just how proud I am of you.”

“Awwww, babe, I know, and I told you earlier, that I wanted to stop drinking for a little while,” I said and put the glass he gave me down.

“Yes, I know that is why that is apple cider.”

  Confused, I said. “Huh?”

“I know your secret Ash,” he smiled.

“That damn Tam,” I said. “That lil heffa.”

“No, no, no, hun it wasn’t Tam. I honestly sensed it a few weeks ago, but thought I was just imagining it. Baby I know your body, and I know your cycle and when I found the test this afternoon in our master bathroom, I was blown away,” he said.

“Baby, I was going to tell you tonight,” I defended.

“It doesn’t matter,” he said and his eyes welled. “This blessing has been a long time coming and I’m so grateful to God Ashlee, that there are no words.

I wiped his tear away and he kissed my hand. My husband made love to me that night so slowly and so passionately that if I wasn’t pregnant already that would have been the night we conceived. I gave Nicco his first son and we loved each other, our friends, our family and the hood!
