Family for the Holidays Page 18

by Victoria Pade

Shandie closed her eyes and imagined how thrilled her daughter would be when she told Kayla that Dax was going to be a part of their lives after all.

Her daughter, who had brought them all together.

Twice, actually—that first day when Kayla had gone to buy a “big bike” from Dax, and again today when the little girl had just wanted to be with him.

Which was what Shandie wanted, too—just to be with him.

That was something she’d wondered if she would ever find again after Pete, but she was glad she had.

And somehow at that moment, lying there with Dax, she felt as if he was a gift that maybe Pete had sent to her and Kayla.

An early Christmas gift that gave Kayla someone who Shandie had no doubt already did love her daughter and care about her and want only what was best for the little girl.

A gift that gave Shandie someone to share the rest of her life with.

Which she suddenly felt sure was exactly how long she and Dax would have together.
