At first, she thought that he was going to pull her underneath him like he had before. It had felt good, amazing even, to feel him on top of her, but this time he just used the opportunity that he already had in front of him. Her shorts were pulled down to her knees, as well as her panties. He situated her so that she was open and ready for him. As much as Mona wanted it, she was not ready for all of him when he started to slide deep. It caught her off guard, even though she knew that it had been coming. It had just been more than she had imagined.
“Are you okay?”
It was not something that Mona was used to being asked, although most of the time, it didn't seem necessary. Jack was different, he always had been different to her, but not in this way; she did not know what he was capable of, and now that she did, Mona wondered if she could handle the shifter. He was certainly a lot to take in.
Afraid that he was going to stop if she didn't answer, Mona said she was fine. She backed up a little more against him and squeezed as hard as she could. Leaning forward a little bit, it made him go exactly where she wanted him to be and then she made a sighing sound. He was a lot to take on, but she swallowed every inch of him, and it felt magnificent. How could she regret this? Ever?
It was like before, when he’d tasted her, but this was so much more. He filled every inch of her with his manhood, and she was already so close to losing herself again, and he had only done a few pumps inside of her. The man was just far more than she could handle. Mona wasn't sure if he knew it or not. All she knew for certain was that she was going to explode soon.
Jack pushed her a little further forward and started to slide into her faster and deeper. It was more than Mona could handle and she kept calling out his name. It was hard for her to focus on anything but him and the way he made her feel. And then she was exploding quickly and harder than she ever had before, it was perfect.
Jack wasn't too far behind her, and when he was fully satiated and had gotten his fill, he pulled her against him just as he had before, but instead of penetrating her, he hugged her to him and enjoyed the warm heat she let off.
It had been a long time since she had felt this way.
Chapter Sixteen
Jack woke up to hear his name being called. Not the one that his mother gave him, but the one that he had earned later in life, that meant so much more: Dad” His sons were in the bedroom, and they were now on his side of the bed. He looked over, and he could see that Mona was still next to him.
It was a relief to wake up to her, but at the same time, it was also a situation that he wasn’t sure how to handle. He was not ready to explain what was going on to the kids, but they needed to know. It wouldn't be long until Abel and Samuel would want to know what the nanny was doing in his bed.
Instead of having the conversation with a sleeping Mona next to him, he told the kids that he would make them breakfast, and they went down to the kitchen quietly. He didn't want her to wake her up, especially in that situation, because she would not have taken it well. She would be embarrassed, and he didn't want her to feel that way. She had nothing to be embarrassed about.
When he had found the two boys, they had certainly not been acting like themselves. Chris had told him that they were probably drugged by the witches, but the doctor that he had sent for to check on them before they went to bed did not find anything. Blood work had come back negative, but he knew that it most likely meant that there was magic involved instead of pharmaceuticals. Whatever it was, at least it had worn off.
“So, how are you two feeling?”
Samuel told him that he was feeling a little groggy but that he was happy to be home. Abel said pretty much the same thing, and he wondered what they had gone through. Was it time for him to ask those questions or was it too soon? How is he supposed to know how to handle this sort of situation? It had never been something that he had even thought about before.
He knew that he had to broach the subject because they might want to talk about it. “So, do you guys want to talk about what happened?”
“We were talking, and neither one of us remembers all that much. We remember the new babysitter and maybe the first day, but that's it. Do you know why that is?”
The sad part was that he had no idea. He did not know the ways of the witches, and there was really no telling. All they could hope was that when he talked to Mona about it, maybe she would have some insight that he did not. Whatever it was, whatever was going through their minds, he wanted to make sure that he could make it all okay. That was his job after all.
“It is probably for the best that you don't remember.”
“Who were those people?”
It was the first time that Abel had said a word, and usually he was the boisterous one. Whether they remembered it or not, something had affected them.
“They were people that don't like shifters. They dislike them so much that they want to hurt anyone that is.”
He got a couple of looks, and he wondered if he had been a little too harsh with his assessment. Maybe he had given him too much truth. He didn't want them to realize how much danger they have been in, especially if they didn't understand.
“So, you're saying that they wanted to hurt us?”
“I think so, kids. I'm sorry that you have to hear it this way, but it seems to be their agenda.”
Both boys’ eyes got wider, and he could tell that he probably shouldn’t have said so much. It was more than they could handle, and he wanted to kick himself. Jack always wanted to be truthful with his children, but sometimes he shouldn’t be. This is one of those situations. He just wanted them to be safe, but how could they be safe if they didn't understand that they were in trouble?
“Yes, they wanted to hurt you. But I didn't let them, and now you are safe.”
“What if they come back again?”
It was the same question that he had been asking himself. That's why he wanted to work with Chris to get rid of them for good.
“Daddy is going to take care of them. I'm going to have somebody help me, and we're going to make sure that they can't hurt anybody ever again, including you guys.”
That seemed to help a little bit, but they were still not sure. If he was mad at anything, it was the fact that they had created fear in his children and they were too young for that. They shouldn't have to fear anything at this stage of life.
It was hard for him not to think about Chris and how he was because he had failed his people. While it had not happened to him, it could have. His kids weren't safe until the Franklin Organization was gone completely. Only then would he finally let himself breathe again.
After a few more questions that were quite uncomfortable to answer, Jack started making breakfast. It was such a simple task, but it grounded him.
He had been so caught up at work and getting everything done at the office that he had forgotten all about why he was there to begin with. He wasn't there to make more money; he had enough of that. He was there to give his kids a better life.
Between figuring out who the Franklin Organization was and taking them down, as well as taking care of the kids, that's all that he was going to worry about. Work was just going to have to wait a little bit longer.
Jack told that to the kids, and they were both excited about it. Jack was excited at the idea of it as well, but the nanny had just walked in, and she had heard too much.
“Well, if you get a chance, just let Fran know that you don't need me anymore. I am sure you are right. The best thing that you can do right now, is stay home with the kids. The boys...” She stopped talking, and he could see that she was upset. Most likely she was feeling like what was going on between them had ended. She should have known better than that, in his opinion. Whatever was going on between them was not going to end anytime soon.
The kids were running into the front room to watch cartoons, as apparently the witches would not let them watch anything, and he looked over at Mona.
“Just because I am going to stay home from wo
rk for a while doesn't mean that we don't need you.”
“Actually, I think that is exactly what it means.”
“Okay, well, I still want you here. I know that it's not the traditional way of doing things, but who says that we have to do it that way?”
“I think everybody does. You can't have a nanny if you don't need one to watch your kids. Isn’t that what Chris was asking about?”
Jack pulled her into his arms, and he could see that she was self-conscious and unsure of where she stood in his life. What he didn't understand was how she could forget so quickly. He was doing his best to hold his emotions in, but maybe that's exactly what she needed to see them.
He was never, by any stretch of the imagination, going to be done with her. He couldn't imagine that ever happening. How could she not know that?
“It has nothing to do with what is going on with the kids, Mona. I need you here with me. I don't know what I would have done the last couple of days without you. You just came into my life like a hurricane; then you changed everything for the better. There's no way that you’re going anywhere.”
He could see the relief on her face. She must have thought that he was going to have his way with her and then be done with her. Just because he was going to be staying home from work, that didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to be gone, taking care of things with Chris. They had a lot of work to do, taking down the Franklin Organization.
He still had to find them, and then once he did find them, there was going to be a time that he had to take care of them. That was going to have to be done away from his children. They did not need to see that part of his life.
“Why don't we go watch some cartoons with the boys, and we can talk about this later?”
“You always talk about talking, but we never do that.”
“I suppose you're right. But in my defense, every time I'm around you, the last thing I'm thinking about is words.”
The two of them grabbed their breakfast plates and went in to watch cartoons with the twins. Both boys were glued to the screen, which gave them a little bit of time to hold hands and just feel the moment.
Maybe it could all work out—just maybe…
Chapter Seventeen
Just like Jack, Mona didn't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. She was unsure how sustainable their relationship was, but at the same time, she wasn't willing to give up on the chance. They were happy together. After a week with the boys being home, they had made some sort of arrangement that worked for all of them.
More than that, Mona was happy. It was the first time that she felt like she was part of something. They made her feel welcome, and his family was hers. The kids were in a little rambunctious, but she got along with them very well. Everything seemed to be going so perfectly, even given the fact that it could all be gone in a moment. It made it that much more precious to Mona.
Even though Jack wasn't going to work as much, some days he wasn’t there at all. He was still on the phone a lot, and he was always having meetings with other people. She could tell that a lot of the other people were shifters. Mona knew that he couldn't let everything go that had happened with the Franklin Organization. She couldn't blame him, of course, given what they had done to his children, but at the same time, she was worried that he was going to get involved with them in another way. Mona didn’t want him to get hurt.
Her anxiety was high when he was out meeting with people, and today was worse than usual. Usually, she tried not to let his meetings get to her. She knew that he was doing what he had to do. It wasn't like he was keeping it from her, but today there was an extra tightness in her chest. Mona almost had herself convinced that it was because something had gone horribly wrong and he was hurt.
It was worse as the day wore on into the night. It was two o'clock in the afternoon the next day, when she finally heard the door opening and her heart raced. She didn’t know if she was angry or relieved—maybe a little of both.
Because of everything that had gone on with them, because of the fact that they had attacked an Organization hideout, she did not quite expect it to be Jack. She expected that it was someone to get her. Unbeknownst to him, Mona had been waiting for it to happen again. She had a bat in her hands, when the door finally came open all the way. It was Jack, and he backed up.
“Woah, woah, woah, what are you doing?” She dropped the bat to the ground.
“Well, dear, if it were a robber or somebody like that, they would probably not have a key.”
“Yeah, but if it's the Organization, they might.”
She knew that she was being a little bit ridiculous about it and that the fear was unfounded, but it wasn't something that she could change either. Mona didn't think that it was going to go away until she knew that the whole Organization had burned down. Until they were gone and out of existence, how was she ever supposed to relax?
He kissed her and took her hand in his. “The reason that I'm leaving and doing all of this is so that you won't have to be afraid anymore.”
“When you are here, I don't feel afraid. It's just when you're gone.”
“I had to leave. I'm sorry that you are fearful when I am gone. You don't have to be. I am doing everything in my power to make sure that you and the boys and everyone else that has come in contact with them is safer. I want to take down the Franklin Organization, and then no one will have to fear anything anymore.”
“I know, I am just worried for you too. I don't want anything to happen to you, Samuel, or Abel. I just… I have never had much family to care about, and it is exhausting because there's a lot of worry involved.”
He chuckled and pulled her close. “Just because it's a little bit harder doesn’t mean that it's not worth it.”
That made her smile, and she remembered how sweet he could be at times.
“So where are the kids?”
“They're in the pool swimming. I haven't been able to get them out all day. Do you want me to tell them that you’re home?”
He disagreed and said that instead, he would go out there and join them. One of the main reasons that he stayed home was to spend more time with his kids and since she did not know him before and how he was, she didn't know if that was true, but she did know that he spent almost every waking moment with them now. If they were up, he wanted to be with them.
Even though it wasn't her job, Mona told him that she was going to start dinner. There was some kind of domestic bliss that they were living in right now, and she was going to go with that. She was going to live with a family that wasn’t hers, but it made her feel like part of it. Even though she was afraid that it was all going to be taken away at any moment, Jack was right when he said that they should enjoy it and being in the present.
Mona watched him take his shirt off and go towards the backyard entrance where the pool was. It was still impossible to see him shirtless and not feel a little palpitation in her heart. More than that, she knew for a fact that she had fallen for him.
She had fallen head over heels for the dragon shifter.
Later that night, she was lying down, and Mona was waiting for Jack to come to bed. He was putting the twins to bed a little later than usual, but it was the phone call that was keeping him away. Every time the phone rang, Mona worried about who and what it was about. A lot of times lately, it been bad news, and she was hoping that whatever it was, wouldn't upset Jack. He needed a break from all of it. Jack hid it well, but she could see how it was all wearing on him.
She walked downstairs, seeing if he was done with the call. Instead, she overheard a little bit of the conversation. She had not asked enough questions about what was going on, and now she was realizing that maybe she should. There was a lot that she didn’t know.
“Well, I got in touch with Sam, from the panther clan. She says that they have had a few instances with the Franklin Organization. She has lost four members, and there are two that are still missing. I would like to help them.”
“Hold on a second. Some
one else is calling in.”
Jack was quiet for a moment, and then he seemed to be trying to calm down whoever it was on the other line.
“Slow down, Fran. Tell me what is going on.”
The fact that it was Fran got Mona’s attention. That was, of course, the person that she worked for and had gotten to know since the ordeal with the Organization.
She wanted to come out and get more information about what was going on, but then she would give away the fact that she was eavesdropping. She then decided that she would stick it out and see what was said.
While at some point she might have felt bad for eavesdropping, when it came to Jack, she didn't feel that way at all because he was always trying to protect her. It was sweet and everything, but at the same time, Mona felt like he was keeping her out of the important stuff. She wanted him to know that she could deal with it. She wanted to help, but he was holding her to the side like she was a delicate butterfly, and that she couldn’t handle.
“I am so sorry to hear that, Fran. Are you sure that it was them?”
“Yeah, I am hearing all kinds of stuff about them. None of it is good. I don't know how they have been able to do this for as long as they have, but we're not going to let this happen any longer. I promise you that we're going to take care of this. Give me the number, and I will talk to them. Maybe they will remember something now. It's going to be okay.”
He talked to her a few more minutes, and when he got off the phone or rather clicked it over to talk to Chris, she held her breath to hear.
“Are you still there?”
“Good, yeah, that was Fran. You know the lady that helps me get nannies?”
“Well anyway, she says that one of her families was attacked again. Since it has been two of us, we are starting to think that maybe it's not a coincidence. Maybe there is someone close that is feeding them information. I'm not really sure. Hit me up tomorrow, and we will go together and figure out what's going on.”
