Their Human Vessel Page 20

As if affirming this, a tiny foot or fist thumped against the palm of her hand through the wall of her belly. Corrie smiled.

At home, she found Vorne, Grekh, and Xalleus meeting with a group of other alien warriors. After freeing the aliens from the first facility, Corrie’s mates had become the leaders of the Terramaran army. As more and more Juvanis facilities had fallen, and more alien warriors had been freed, that army had grown. They had delegated the strongest, brightest, and most courageous of the warriors to be their generals, which is who their current guests were.

As Corrie arrived, the males finished talking. The generals bowed their head politely to Corrie before excusing themselves, leaving Corrie alone with her three mates.

“I didn’t mean to interrupt anything important,” Corrie said.

“Nothing is more important than you,” Grekh answered.

He led her to a primitive but comfortable couch made of bones and hide. Xalleus sat beside her, and Vorne kneeled in front, taking her rotund belly gently between his hands. He kissed her there.

“Gulnara said you were waiting for me,” Corrie said.

  Vorne nodded and smiled.

“Yes. We have good news. Excellent news. The humans have retreated and abandoned the final Juvanis facility. Terramara is now completely free, and the war is finally over.”

Corrie felt a rush of warmth flow through her body. For the past five and a half years, her greatest fear had been for her mates. Though they were fierce and powerful, she couldn’t help worrying that they would be mortally wounded in the ongoing battle. Now, however, the planet would finally be at peace.

And it also meant that her mates would be home more, which made Corrie feel even better.

“I’m so happy,” she said, and kissed each of her mates in turn.

There was still much work to be done rebuilding the Terramaran society, but that would be peaceful work.

Gulnara’s vision of the future echoed in Corrie’s mind.

Briefly, Corrie, considered telling the three males about the vision, but she decided she would save that for later. For now, she had something else that she really wanted to share with them.

“I have some good news of my own,” she said.

Three pairs of glowing eyes gazed at her in anticipation.

“It’s going to be a boy.”

All six of the eyes that were watching her flared with green surprise. The aliens’ dark faces brightened with happiness. Vorne’s hands were still on her belly, and once again the baby inside gave a little kick of corroboration.

  “A little warrior,” Vorne whispered.

Xalleus and Grekh took turns as well smiling and touching Corrie’s belly, feeling the precious and restless male life growing in her womb.

And in that moment, Corrie felt so fulfilled, so treasured, and so safe, surrounded by her steadfast and protective alien mates.
