  Yogâcâra (“Yoga way”). The Mahâyâna Buddhist school founded by Asanga.

  Yoga-Sûtra (“Yoga aphorism”). The source text of Classical Yoga, compiled by Patanjali. See also sutra.

  Yoga-Vâsishtha. A massive poetic treatment of nondualist Yoga, composed sometime in the tenth century C.E.

  Yogin. A male practitioner of Yoga.

  Yoginî. A female practitioner of Yoga.

  Yuga (“yoke”). A world age. According to Hindu cosmology, there are four such world ages, each of several thousand years’ duration. The kali-yuga is held to be the darkest period and precedes another golden age. Cf. kalpa.
