King's Mate: An Alpha Shifter Romance Page 9

by Piper Stone

  Just his hard fucking.

With every brutal thrust, I became even more lost in a dream state, no longer an officer of the law, merely a woman being changed forever. And I became insatiable, meeting every hard plunge with one of my own, stretching out my fingers as the savage drives continued.

He kicked my legs open wide, sliding his hands along my stomach until he was able to cup and squeeze my breasts. The scent of him intensified, more animal in nature, intoxicating in every manner.

His continued growls were enigmatic, pulsating into my ears as he took me. When he yanked me away from the tree, pushing my back into an arc, I struggled to see what he was doing. His eyes. I could swear they’d changed, the glow even more luminescent, the shadows surrounding his face vibrating, as if his body was changing.

I was stuck in a paralyzing moment as he lowered his head, whispering into my ear, “Now, I fuck you in the ass.”

Everything shifted to slow motion as he dragged the tip of his cock along the cleft of my ass, pushing ever so deliberately into my dark hole. I opened my mouth in a silent scream as he pushed his shaft in an inch at a time. The pain was instantaneous, blinding in a way that dragged away every rational thought, shoving my mind into yet another place. But as with the anguish from before, when he was finally seated inside, his cock throbbing, the agony morphed into utter bliss.

I could feel his body shaking behind me as he held his cock inside, pinching and twisting my nipples for several seconds before taking me to another level of pleasure. As he began to drive in and out, taking his time as he tormented my hardened buds, I dropped my head, barely able to comprehend the moment. Letting go had never been easy for me, but there was no choice, my body reacting to his in a way I would never have believed.

  I wanted this.

  I needed him.

I craved his prowess and his savagery.

He fucked me long and hard, driving me up onto my toes as his thick cock filled me, stretching my aching muscles. And he continued.

  Harder.

  Faster.

His growls permeated the night sky, the deep roars of a king.

His body began to shake even more, every action that of a beast and nothing more. I knew he was ready to explode, to fill me with his seed. There was nothing I wanted more. As I clamped down my muscles, I was rewarded with his scattered bellow.

And the warmth of his cum.

Everything was at a standstill. No sound.

  No wind.

  No rain.

  As if he commanded nature.

When he was finished shaking, he wrapped his hands around my wrists, the heat of his body exhilarating. The moment he spoke, I was dragged into another reality.

“There are some who say we don’t exist, creatures of a long-ago forgotten society, but we survived. We are alive and I am the alpha, the king. You are now my queen.” He nipped my ear, his scattered breath searing my neck as his body covered mine. “I will be coming for you, my queen, my omega. You are my destiny, yet you must save us. Only you can expose the truth. You must remember that there are those out to destroy us. Some believe we are true monsters. Instead, they are the beasts who are determined to exterminate us. Trust no one for you will be betrayed.”

His words were chilling, my heart racing as I tried to understand what he was telling me. What in God’s name had Dr. Porter been involved in? Could I have been so wrong about the man I’d respected for so many years? The truth. I shivered as I thought about the ramifications. What the hell was I supposed to do?

I could feel his heat and energy slipping away, my entire body aching with additional need, intense cravings that were overpowering. Gasping for air, I wanted nothing more than to reach for him, begging him to tell me more. Even the ground began to shake underneath my feet, the trees swaying in the brisk wind. Yet the scent of him remained, covering every inch of my nakedness.

  Powerful.

  Primal.

  Beast...

As if by magic, the vines suddenly began to unravel, freeing my arms. I no longer felt his strength or his power. It was as if he’d disappeared. As if the night had ripped him away from me.

When I managed to turn, he’d disappeared, leaving me cold and aching, my mind screaming for more information. A single crack drew my attention into the darkness of the forest. I was no longer afraid as I walked closer, my eyes finally accustomed to the darkness. As the ground rumbled beneath my feet, I heard his cry once more.

The intense roar as it rushed up to the heavens.

  Then...

I saw him, a glimpse of his magnificence. Fur so white it glowed in the single flash of lightning. His massive body majestic in every way. His eyes burning into mine.

And I knew without a doubt that he was truly a savage beast.

  For he was a lion.

  Chapter Seven

  Clarise

“You will come to me when and how I say. You will bend to my will, accepting your punishment and take my cock.” His words were like brushed velvet skating across my naked skin, intensifying the yearning.

“Yes, sir. I will,” I whispered as he wrapped his hand around both naked breasts, yanking me closer, leaning over as he issued a series of dark growls. The rumble vibrated through me, exciting my already seared skin. The touch of him alone was breathtaking, keeping my pussy soaking wet and my nipples fully aroused. I was his pet, his mate, and the woman who would bear his cubs.

He shifted one hand down my side, sliding his hand between my legs, thrusting several fingers into my aching channel. With the other he pinched my nipple, twisting until I cried out in both agony and ecstasy.

“Oh, yes. Yes...” I arched my back as he finger fucked me, aching for him to be inside.

He tilted his head as he opened his mouth, exposing his canines. I could feel his hot breath skipping into every pore as he drew me onto my toes. After releasing a husky and very guttural sound, he scraped his sharp teeth down the side of my neck.

  Clarise...

I could swear I heard the lion calling me. In my mind, his thoughts and desires remained ravenous. I was shaking so badly, I had difficulty answering the Netscape call, wanting nothing more than to avoid the facetime feature.

I knew there was no way Emily would allow it.

Oh, my God. The images had been so real, so damn enrapturing, and I realized my entire body was trembling. Even the scent of my feminine wiles floated inside the vehicle, nearly suffocating me. I had to get the creature out of my mind. Today was important. I had to begin to learn what was going on.

No matter what I had to do.

“Hiya,” I started, even as I darted a gaze toward the science ward building. I’d remained in my vehicle for almost twenty minutes, terrified to dare go inside. The commander had at least made good on his promise, securing me a visit to see the Breeds. I wasn’t entirely certain how I felt about it.

“You ditched me again,” Emily said, snorting as she wagged her finger at the screen.

“I had a few good reasons.” The entire establishment was miles from the city, the surrounding acreage nothing but woods. I’d had a difficult time finding it, even though the coordinates were very clear.

“Are you going to share the exciting news with your best friend?”

“What exciting news?” I managed, my stomach churning.

Emily groaned. “The rumor mill is insane. You have a position with the DSIC. Do you realize how many officers would kill to be in your shoes?”

None if they found out what I had to deal with. I almost said the words. Almost. “It’s not all glory and respect.”

“Yeah, well, it’s better than being tasked to the entertainment force.”

Now I laughed. “You are kidding me.”

“Not even a little bit. Now, I get to follow celebrities around, ensuring their safety. Not that I mind looking at a sexy actor’s butt, but still. Hell, with my luck I’ll get stuck with one of those blonde bimbo types.”

  “Where do you come u
p with this stuff and you’re really complaining?”

“Hey, I hear it’s very hard work trying to babysit prima donnas.”

A huge part of me wanted to exchange our positions. I rolled my eyes on purpose before sticking out my tongue. “You’ll get the hang of it.”

“Hmmm... Don’t you dare make fun of me! Besides, the bitch I know and love would be railing with me to the moon and back. What’s wrong?”

“I just... I just have a lot on my mind.”

“That’s why we need to have a drink today. I mean lunch. My treat,” Emily suggested, laughing as her eyes twinkled.

“No can do. I’m on duty later today. I have to shadow a lieutenant.”

“Which lieutenant? Is he cute? Has he asked you out on a date yet?”

“You know dating is against the regulations!”

She snorted. “As if I give a shit about regulations.”

  “That’s what I’m worried about.”

  “Fine. Who is he?”

Even her giggles and snorts did nothing but create a wave of uncertainty in my mind. “Robert Swift?” I gritted my teeth immediately after saying his name.

Her hesitation was telling. She knew all about Robert, had even been forced to endure his level of testosterone during our training on two occasions. But he had a special adoration for fucking with me.

“Fuck that asshole. You are kidding me! The commander assigned you to that prick of a sloth? I sure hope you’ve already castrated him,” Emily barked.

At least my bestie had a way of making me smile. “Oh, if he keeps on acting like he has been, he will be singing soprano for the rest of his life.” I had to find the courage to go inside.

“That’s my girl. Okay, look. You’re having lunch with me today. I’m not taking no for an answer. We have to celebrate graduating from the academy somehow, especially since you’re obviously going to be rich and famous.”

“We don’t get rich doing this job, Emily.”

  “Oh, yeah. That’s right.”

Inhaling, I realized that maybe getting away from the insanity of what I was facing wasn’t a bad idea. “Okay. Lunch. But don’t get any harebrained ideas in that pretty little blonde head of yours. I need to keep my wits about me in order to handle my shift.”

“Yeah, yeah. Don’t worry. I’ll be a good girl. At least for a little while. Our favorite place?”

“Sure.” Our favorite place was a glorified bar with excellent munchies. While the scenery was excellent, including some of the finest looking men, the thought turned my stomach. “See you then.” I ended the call without our usual banter, something I knew I’d hear about later.

I glared at the building one last time before exiting my vehicle, making certain I had my weapon and credentials. Everything about the location seemed foreboding, the facility something I’d seen in history books. While a certain number of buildings had remained standing after the various great wars, I was surprised this one seemed in almost perfect condition. Another unsettling feeling.

As I moved toward the gated entrance, I scanned the perimeter, surprised at the almost pristine landscaping. The entire picture was surreal, as if dropping into yet another nightmare. I was immediately stopped by several guards, their bland expressions and heavy firepower not what I would have expected.

Except that this was no ordinary science ward, the information highly classified. I’d read all the propaganda that the government spewed, the science ward allowing for a healthier transition for the Breeds, ensuring a good life. Right. I no longer believed the bullshit.

None of the guards said anything as they scanned my body and checked my credentials. However, I had the distinct feeling that any trespassers would be shot on sight. The final guard shifted his gaze, staring into my eyes for several seconds before nodding his approval.

  Then I was let in.

Nothing had prepared me for the cold and damp sensations rushing through me or the ridiculousness of the way my shoes echoed when taking long strides down the stark hallway. There was little light streaming in through the clouded windows and certainly no sign of love or attention.

When I finally reached the administrator’s office, I snickered as soon as I walked into the suite of rooms. Everything was entirely different. Bold colors on the walls. The finest communication and Netscape equipment. Even the decorations and furniture were posh. I was disgusted at the difference.

An even bigger surprise was the warm greeting from the administrator. I’d heard about Grace Ludwig’s reputation. She was known as a stickler and a ballbuster. To have her welcoming me with a warm smile raised my hackles even more.

“Officer Bastille. Lovely to meet you,” Grace half purred as she held out her hand.

Her attire was casual, a direct contrast to my stark uniform. Even her handshake was warm, a woman’s grasp. Nothing about this felt right.

  “Administrator Ludwig.”

“Grace, please. You make me feel so old.” She laughed, her tone genuine. “I suspect you won’t want to sit around in my boring office, chitchatting about our great accomplishments.”

“No, ma’am. I mean Grace. I’d really like to spend some time with the Breeds. That is what I was hired for.”

She kept the smile, her eyes bright and accommodating as she nodded. “I completely understand. Right this way.”

She led me through her group of offices to another door, down a series of steps. “Dr. Porter talked about you favorably.”

  “He was a good... friend.”

“Yes. Such a shame how his death occurred.”

  “And how is that?”

Grace didn’t miss a beat as she placed her hand on one of the familiar door panels, humming softly as she waited for the door to open. “A tragedy, Clarise.”

Somehow, I had the distinct feeling I was getting nothing else, at least at the moment. I was determined to get her side of the story before I left. “I understand. What can you tell me about the Breed who did it?”

Sighing, she stopped after we entered the room, another dark representation of what the building had once looked like. The limited furniture was bolted to the walls, the lighting harsh. I couldn’t imagine this was what the entire facility looked like.

“Unfortunately, the creature had to be euthanized. He was too far gone to save,” Grace said in a quiet voice, the decision obviously bothering her.

“How are the others acting since the incident?”

Her smile was slight, waning as she stared at the massive steel door in front of us. “Timid. Unhappy. Afraid. How would you feel if you’d been incarcerated for an extended period of time?”

Her words caught me off guard. She was a part of the system, the single woman who had the decision making power. “I—” She cut me off before I could respond.

“Given the Breed population is very agitated, I’ve only selected two for you to talk to in our visitor’s ward. I assure you the facilities are some they are familiar with, their rooms adorned with many of the same items.”

“Okay. I appreciate that.” Why had she taken so much time to tell me that?

“Both are very docile, but they don’t like strangers. One is from the bear clan and another from a prominent wolf pack. Both are some of our incredible volunteers, their service invaluable. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to perform our work. These two in particular will be leaving our facility within the next few days. I will hate to see them go.”

Volunteers. That was completely unexpected. Perhaps the doctor’s death was merely a horrific accident after all, a single incident. “I appreciate your accommodations.”

“Absolutely. Anything to help the good commander in his endeavors.” There was no denying her sarcastic tone. “Since Carlton was assigned as overlord, things have certainly changed around here.”

She was also familiar with the man, not just his position. And there certainly wasn’t any love lost. As she prepared to open the door, she stopped just short of placing her hand on the pad, her fing
ers curling. She barely tipped her head in my direction. “Keep something in mind, Clarise. These creatures are animals through and through. While their DNA structure may have been altered, the thousands of years that they commanded their portion of the Earth hasn’t changed their true nature. Do not underestimate them on any level. Some are... let’s just say that some are very unhappy with what happened to one of their own.”

“Then why are they allowed to live in our society if they are so dangerous?” I challenged. Everyone had gone out of their way to tell me just how dangerous the Breeds were.

“These are... they are different now.” She closed her eyes, swallowing hard. “Dr. Porter was a close friend of mine, but things that occurred were not what I’d expected.”

“Understood.” I knew better than to ask any questions. The Dr. Porter I’d known would never consider hurting any of the Breeds, not for any reason. In fact, he would have gone out of his way to save their lives. All the little bells and whistles were going off.

Grace opened the door, her exhale strangled. “I do hope that’s the case. I don’t need any additional tragedies. Our funding is already in a precarious position, the president threatening to shut us down. We must finish with our experiments. That is vital.”

“One last thing, Grace. What kind of experiments were Dr. Porter and his team working on? That would be helpful to know as I study them, and make recommendations.” I honestly wanted to see whether her answer was verbatim with the commander’s.

When she looked me directly in the eyes, inching closer, I was as uncomfortable as hell. “As you can imagine, our work here is highly classified. What I can tell you is the work was all about hope. Hope for the future. I will talk to the commander about how much you can learn about our work. In the meantime, just try and communicate with them like they were people.”
