Scott and I had been in these clothes for a while now it was starting to feel normal and natural. The looks we were getting from people didn't even phase us anymore, we were who we were, and we were Scott and Letticia. I little adventure driven, A little over the top, A little extreme, but who were oh so in love with one another. Sounds like another couple we were so called channelling right now I thought to myself with a giggle.
“Oh, I could really do with a coffee right now Scott, shame we don't have our wallets.” I said feeling frustrated. “Maybe we could do some busking while we wait for our flight to board.” Scott joked. “Maybe we just sit here for a bit, coffee deprived, and money deprived instead.” I said. We actually arrived at our departure gate early for once. Finally we would be boarding with all the other passengers on time rather than making a grand late entrance like we had recently came accustomed to.
I’m not sure if it was the lack of caffeine in our bodies or not but as Scott and I sat waiting for our flight home we both felt deflated. We were both exhausted. The last 48 hours had been a whirlwind of a ride, without a moment's break. We were not use to just being able to sit and wait, to be present and mindful. Not letting the future steal our present. This deflating feeling was not at all a deflating feeling it was more of a feeling of not having all that adrenaline rushing through our bodies that we had, had for the last 48 hours. We had nowhere to be, no crime to solve, no one was after us. We were merely just like any other ordinary person at the airport waiting to board their plane. Apart from maybe our choice of outfits. My feet were firmly planted on the ground, and I was fully aware of it. I was indeed in the present moment, I was indeed practicing mindfulness. It wasn't very often I found myself aware of the present moment. I shut my eyes and continued to create space for myself, space to think and breath. My ‘Outlander’ brain was however trying to wander and drift back into my ‘Outlander’ world, but that was ok. I did notice it wandering so I just simple returned my attention back onto my breathing. My mindfulness moment didn't last long. I was in the present for a good few minutes but I had decided I actually enjoyed not being in the present, no matter how much I tried to convince myself. I could never stay in the present for too long. After all it was hard to connect with “Outlander’ In the present moment.
All this sitting around and being mindful was making be become a bit irritated, I think Scott picked up on it so suggested we go for a walk through the airport. Now this is the reason we so very often find ourselves in strange situations because I think in a strange way Scott and I actually go looking for it.
We were so busy window shopping at duty free, Spaying perfume and testing samples of things on offer that we had forgotten about the time, we missed our boarding call. Our plane had boarded, and Scott and I were the last passengers they were waiting for. The only thing that got out attention was when Jackie at the ticket desk called our final call. “Final boarding call for Mr Scott King and Mrs Letticia Little AKA Jamie and Claire.” Ha I knew she was an Outlander fan, I could always pick them was my first thought, when my first thought should have really been to get on that plane, we could not afford to miss our flight for the second time.
Scott took hold of my hand and said “We have to go” and with that Scott and I took off at lightning speed back towards our boarding gate.
Wearing a kilt did not slow Scott down one bit, however, I decided my slower pace was due to my huge dress I had on and not the fact I was a tad unfit. The next thing we heard is Jackie had put on the ‘Sky Boat Song’ over the speaker for everyone in the airport to hear as they happened to witness two people dressed in Scottish 1700s outfits rushing back in a very undignified manner to board a flight that was about to leave without us on board once again. The two-airport staff that were ladies at the gate were about to close off boarding when Scott yelled in his so very Scottish accent of his.
“Aye why cannae wait for us, we are here we are here.” I full heartedly expected them to turn us away and I was fully aware they would have so, had it just been me.
These ladies were either Outlander fans or totally smitten by Scott’s Scottish accent and sexy knees that he showcased very nicely in his kilt. I had not decided yet whether it was the latter over the former until one of the ladies said, “How could we turn away such a well presented Scottish gentleman as yourself.” with a flirty look upon her face.
So it was obviously the latter I thought to myself but then after we had handed them our boarding passes and were thankfully walking down the gangway I heard the other lady say “Oh, he so could have been my Jamie.”
Ok so maybe it was the former then. I thought to myself. Or maybe a bit of both. As I argued with myself about those two ladies’ intentions in regards to my Scott I had not noticed we were now almost at the entrance to the plane to board. As I re focused I noticed Scott handing over our two boarding passes to the airline hostess that was waiting with a big white, completely straight, veneer smile to greet us aboard but deep down she was grinding her perfect fake teeth thinking hurry up you two people who are stuck in the 1700’s delaying this plane from taking off for the future.
“Welcome aboard Mr King and Mrs Little you are down at the very back row to your left.” Wonderful I thought, I get the opportunity to walk passed every passenger on board and meet either their annoyed looks from our lateness or their confused looks on thinking what on earth are these two wearing? Have they escaped from a mental health facility?
The walk down the aisle felt like an eternity. I was walking but the aisle felt like there was no end to it. I was starting to feel rather flushed and lightheaded. Scott picked up on my demeanour and took hold of my hand for the rest of the walk down to our back row seats, where they put all the people from other centuries or decades by the looks of it. We were seated next to a hippie couple with long dreads wearing tie dyed clothes, with peace signs. Obviously, they have time travelled from the 70’s. They looked rather relaxed and were too far into their happy place to even really notice Scott and I. We took our seats and both breathed a sigh of relief that we made in onto the plane and were heading home to our Clan, clothes, money, a shower and a hot meal.
At least my smell fitted in well in the back row alongside the hippies I thought. People would not be able to tell what decade or century the smell was coming from. There is a silver lining in any situation I thought.
Chapter Twenty Six
Brisbane (Home Sweet Home)
The flight back from Cairns was very uneventful apart from the looks we were getting and that was either from our odour or our appearance. I was in no mood to try and work out whether it was the latter over the former this time. The only thing I was in the mood for was getting into our car and driving home. One good thing about travelling with no bags was the fast exit we achieved from the airport.
We were in our car within 20 minutes of landing. Got to love travelling domestically and bag-less I thought. Scott offered to drive. “Aye Sassenach, let me drive. You rest and concentrate on not producing anymore body Odour from your sweat glands,” he laughed.
“You are lucky you have a Scottish accent Scott and that disgusting thing you just said didn't sound half as bad as it should have,” I replied.
“Aye we Scots can get away with everything and anything,” he said with a wink. And with that Scott turned the key and started the car to head off to our final destination for the day, ‘home’.
The drive home was very relaxing and enjoyable even, until Scott announced halfway home, “Well Sassenach, we have a problem.” I couldn't take another problem I didn't want to hear it, I just wanted Scott to get me home back to ‘Lallybroch,’ I mean my house.
He went on anyway in announcing the next challenge we had put out in front of us. “The petrol light is about to come on.” Scott said.
I replied, “There is a petrol station just up ahead Scott, we will make it there, no need to stress your little Scottish behind.” I cheekily said.
“Aye Letticia and how do you suppose
we pay for this petrol?” Scott enlightened me.
“Ohhhhhhh,” I said as I came to the realisation, we had no money on us. “Well, Scott we just drive until we can drive no more. I have faith in this old girl to get us home. You just have to have a little bit of Faith Scott.” I said ever so confidently.
“If you say so Master” Scott replied. The rest of the drive back was not as relaxed or enjoyable as the first half.
I was having to portray a demeanour of confidence in front of Scott and not look the slightest bit cornered with our tank running on air almost. I decided to leave out the fact I had indeed ran out of petrol on several occasions in this car with the needle almost at the same point as it was approaching now. Anyway, we were only about 5 minutes from home if we were to run out now we would only have a 15 minute walk back to the safety of my house. We had both overcome far more extreme challenges than that, I thought.
As it turns out, Luck was on our side. The luck gods thought they had dealt us enough challenging cards in the last 48 hours so decided to blow us home with their lucky breath. I had no other explanation on how we managed to make it home on such an empty tank. We rolled our way into my driveway. Scott didn't even need to turn the key off as the car spluttered in pain and thirst and turned itself off from lack of fuel
“Gotta have a little bit of faith, faith, faith.” I joked to Scott.
“I had faith in her,” Scott said, “I never doubted` the old girl.” he continued as he gave the car a well done pat.
“I shall call this car Faith.” I announced.
“Oh, how very convenient.” Scott said with a wink.
“Next you will be calling me Jamie.” he replied.
“What do you mean next?” I giggled.
Scott and I even though we were thankful to have made it home, dragged ourselves out of the car. We were running on empty, empty stomachs, empty pockets and empty energy. Scott being the Scottish kilt wearing sexy gentleman he was still found it in him to scoop me up in his arms to carry me the last few metres left of this adventure. Not a bad way to end another adventure in the arms of my beloved Jamie, I mean Scott I thought.
“I think you are in need of a good hearty meal Sassenach, you weigh next to nothing compared to last time I picked you up this way.” he laughed.
“In all fairness Scott I had just been at a fudge taste testing competition last time and I may or may not have eaten more than my fair share.” I said with a very insulted tone.
“Aye Letticia I’m only joking.” he defensively replied.
“I know I’m just very hangry” I said.
Scott looked confused. “Hangry, what on earth does that mean?” Scott asked.
“Half hungry, half angry due to being hungry.” I explained.
“Aye we can't have that now can we? Let's get you inside and fed.” He half joked, the other half of him was rather frightened of what I may do in my state of Hangry. He didn't want to see the full extent of Letticia being Hangry so decided to feed this wild woman of his.
He stormed his way through the front door like a tornado in a kilt, He ran straight past Sophie and James who were snuggling on the couch together. “Aye how you going?” he said as he ran past them in a frenzy “Sorry can’t chat got to feed my hangry woman” he announced. I followed him inside a few seconds later.
“Oh, dear look what the cat dragged in” Sophie jokingly said.
“Looks to me like a Hangry Letticia.” James replied.
“Oh, ha ha ha why don't you all just laugh at my hangry state why don’t you, but I will have you know it is a real thing.”
“Nobody is saying otherwise Letticia, the evidence speaks volumes.” Scott said as he placed a peanut butter sandwich down in front of me.
“Really? This is the best you can do, I was rather hoping for a home cooked meal.”
“Sorry Letticia the girls and us had Fish and Chips for dinner tonight. Didn't think you would have fancied cold dry leftovers.” Sophie explained.
“You are quite right; no this peanut butter sandwich will do me fine. Especially since it was made with love.” I said, looking at Scott with the, ‘It better have been made with love’ look upon my face. Hangry wasn't a good look for me I decided. I was being so mean to my Scott. I need to eat this sandwich and get my nice boots back on.
Scott and I joined the two love birds on the couch.
“Nice Kilt” James said with a nod of approval.
“Nice dress” Sophie said with a look of confusion. “I’m not even going to ask why you two are dressed the way you are but I guess it has to do with your ‘Outlander’ and Scottish obsession Letticia.” Sophie laughed. I was in no mood to go in to full detail with them as to why we returned home looking the way we did so just agreed with her hypothesis
“Oh, you know us too well.” I replied and left it at that.
After I finished my peanut butter sandwich I decided to go check in on Polly and Leah. James had read them a good night story about an hour earlier, so they were both sound asleep when I went in to give them a kiss. Scott followed me in and gave them both a kiss on their foreheads. He really was taking his new role as step dad like a professional. I would even go as far as saying he was not only my Jamie but my Frank too. It really does take a community to raise children I thought to myself. Polly and Leah had so many people in their lives that cared and loved them. They were two very lucky children. We tiptoed out of their room and proceeded to my old bedroom that I had once not so very long ago shared with Frank, I mean Paul. This is no time to drift off into my fantasy world again, I thought to myself.
I flopped backwards onto the end of my bed, Scott flopped backwards beside me. His flop was a bit more awkward than mine. I could tell he still felt a bit strange and uneasy sleeping in the same bed I had once shared with another man. We both lay there in that moment gathering ourselves and coming to terms with the last 48 hours in Cairns and how we managed to return home safely with no money and no belongings, only the clothes upon our backs.
"Well Sassenach, true to my promise I have returned you home in one piece."
I laughed, "Only just. it was a bit touch and go there at one point, actually come to think of it at several points."
“Never underestimate me, im true to my word, a real Scotsman at that. I will never let harm come your way." Scott replied.
"Oh, I never underestimated you even with every woman we met along the way drooling over you." I teased.
"Only one woman for me in this life Letticia, and that woman is you." He gave me one of his irresistible winks that sent Goosebumps over my entire body. I pulled myself up into a sitting position at the end of the bed. I needed to get cleaned up and a hot soapy bath was calling my name. I needed to wash away this body odour that had outstayed its welcome. However, Scott had other ideas and to be fair I was rather interested in what he was thinking even in my state of Valqua smelling body odour. How could Scott not be repulsed by this? He truly was a man that loved me in all the many states I portrayed.
I sat upright contemplating whether to run a bath for a nice long soak or to go along with Scott’s motives. Once I started feeling his fingers untying the back ties of my dress, one by one and his fingertips running down the arch of my back, I was sold, there will be no bath for at least another hour. I was about to be transported back to Scotland, my happy place, even though I was not going to be leaving the comfort of my bed, Scott had a way of making me feel the way I did the moment I stepped foot in Scotland whenever we made love.
My Scotland lover had a way of taking me back to Scotland with every touch he placed upon my body. A sensation that was magical and addictive.
He fingers reached the end of my spine where they just lingered softly around the small of my back. I gave out a little moan of pleasure, tilted my head back exposing my neck and inviting Scott to caress it with his breath before moving on to delicate kisses up and down the length of it.
He moved my loose hair that hung just past my shoulders to on
e side as he continued to seduce me.
I fell backwards onto the bed after feeling lightheaded and overwhelmed with emotion. Scott lay next to be still stroking every inch of my body.
With my dress untied from the back Scott slowly started taking it off me. He got a hold of the bottom of my dress and ruffled it up, pulling it up over my body, I lifted my arms up above my head to assist him.
I lay there in front of him in my same 48 hour old underwear. Thankfully they had been washed at the Manor hotel room we stayed in, but I was still more than happy to remove these items off me with no second thought, so when Scott proceeded to do so I was ever so grateful.
Now fully naked lying there in front of Scott, I said, "Fair is fair" and started to undress him.
The kilt was going off first I decided. Even though I loved a man in a kilt a part of me needed a break from seeing him it and I was rather looking forward to seeing my Scottish man naked ready for me to enjoy.
As I undress him, I noticed he didn't smell too flash hot either but not completely in a bad way. He smelt like a hardworking man wearing day old cologne, in a weird way it sort of turned me on.
The next hour was pure enjoyment as we both intimately focused on one another.
