Chapter One
Emmanuel
To anyone else, it may have seemed like Joseph dropped off the face of the earth. I knew better though. I knew he was a coward, lurking in the shadows waiting for my guard to be down before he struck. I wouldn’t let that happen. Not now, not ever. I wouldn’t fucking rest until I had him kneeling in front of Camilla, begging for her forgiveness.
An entire year had zipped by and not one lead had been found on him. I could feel him though. He thought he’d escaped my grasp wherever he was but I was about to prove him wrong. I couldn’t let him continue walking around, living, and breathing while I had four kids and a wife to protect. There would be no coming back from his death this time.
“Baby, you’re brooding again,” Camilla’s brilliant emerald eyes peered at me from across the breakfast table.
“Isn’t that what he does best?” Trev chuckled as he wiped eggs from Alyssa’s highchair. It was uncanny how much Laurel and Trevor’s daughter looked like Chloe and Cami. She had the prettiest green eyes along with thick curls of sandy brown hair and was only missing Chloe’s signature dimples. It looked like she belonged to Camilla.
“It is,” Cami sighed and rubbed the back of my hand. Her eyes lingered on mine for a few moments longer as if she were reading my thoughts, and more than likely she was. Since being married, our connection to one another had only grown deeper. She understood me without words. “It’s okay, Emmanuel.” Camilla leaned over and placed the sweetest kiss on my lips.
“Kiss, Mama,” Logan grinned showing his four teeth.
“Kiss, Mama,” Lucas repeated. Both boys had Camilla’s striking eyes and sandy hair but everything else came from me. They were big, tall, and between them and Mason, it looked like we had triplets instead of twins. I smiled, finally when I saw Camilla kiss the boys. When she started to clear the table, I jumped up to help.
“Baby, you’re thinking about Joseph again, aren’t you?” Camilla set a stack of dishes in the sink and fixed her hands to her curvy hips.
“I can’t stop thinking about his ass.” I ran a hand down my face and shook my head. “It’s been a year now, Cami. An entire fucking year and I’m on edge. I have got to find this motherfucker.”
“I know, and you will,” she tugged on my shirt until I was bending to kiss her. “Don’t let him take up space in your head. He doesn’t deserve that.”
“You’re right, but he also doesn’t deserve space on the earth anymore either. I won’t be able to relax until I see you kill him.” She sighed heavily and rested her arms on my shoulders. I rested my forehead against hers and pulled her petite frame against my body.
“Yeah, I know.” We fell into a slow kiss and it set my world on fire. I’d finally found my match with Camilla. It felt like I’d started an entire new life since being married to her. I never wanted to let her go or let anyone hurt her ever again.
“Jesus, do you two ever stop?” Trev frowned when he walked in with Alyssa toddling behind him.
“No, Dad. Just like you never announce yourself.”
“Do I have to? I’m here enough.” He playfully shoved Camilla who whined and picked up her little sister.
“Hey, Lyss,” she smiled and tickled her tummy.
“Cami,” Alyssa beamed. She thought Camilla hung the moon and clung to her more than she did to her own parents.
“Hey family!” Cole’s gravelly voice bounced off the walls and an entire stampede of children rushed by the kitchen and into the foyer to greet him. Even little Alyssa wiggled from Camilla’s grasp to go see him. Needless to say, Uncle Cole was a favorite. I slid my eyes over to my wife; she was putting dishes in the dishwasher and pretending like she didn’t want to be a part of the stampede. I knew she did though.
Camilla and Cole’s relationship was something that had started to irritate my entire being. I didn’t know if it was because I was on edge from my new position as governor or because I was on a hunt for Joseph, but the closeness between my wife and her best friend was entirely too much. I still was a sucker for Camilla though, so I motioned for her to go see Cole and she all but dropped the bowl in her hand to run to him.
I strolled around the corner and down the hall just to watch their interaction. It had become my new hobby. Cole took the top spot on my list of motherfuckers to watch. Xavier had been demoted. Once the kids started to scatter, Camilla stood against the wall watching as Cole played with the twins.
When he lifted his eyes to hers it was like a syrupy sweet romance movie where everything moved in slow motion. It was always like that between them. It didn’t matter the time that passed between them seeing each other. He could have literally left to go to the store and come back and she’d react the same way, so would he.
Lucas and Logan toddled off after Chloe and Cole motioned for Camilla to come to him with their special little hand signal. He held out his two fingers and she grabbed on tight before they collided into a hug. He lifted her off the ground and she laughed uncontrollably. “What’s going on, baby?” He grinned before setting her down. It made my blood boil but nobody would ever know.
“Hi, Cole.” Camilla batted those long lashes up at him and they just stared at each other like that.
“Yall done?” I asked with a sigh.
“What’s going on, Manny?” The warm look on Cole’s face melted away as he regarded me.
“Let me talk to you,” I said to him as I walked away from the foyer. Camilla swallowed and went to busy herself in the kitchen.
“What is it?” Cole settled in a chair in my office and I closed the door behind us. He’d been sensing my cold shoulder towards him ever since I’d found out he and Cami used to fuck around. He hadn’t fucked her since, but it was still too damn inappropriate. I loved Cole like a nephew and he was a good guy, he just needed a dose of reality. He was in love with Camilla. The sooner he realized it, the sooner he could get the fuck over it before I ended up doing something I regretted.
“I need you to go sit in on some meetings for me today.” I was lying. I didn’t need him to sit in on anything. I did want to put some distance between him and Camilla today though. Trevor and Laurel were taking all the kids to the zoo and if I could swap places with Cole for some unimportant briefings and meetings, I could be the one spending quality time with her instead of wondering if he was pushing his luck.
“Okay,” He frowned. “I mean…I know what this shit is really about though.” “I’m glad you do. Now, do what I asked you to do.” I let the smile drop from my face. I could see Cole’s jaw tick angrily and I laughed. “Might wanna calm that anger down Cole.”
“I’m not angry,” he snapped.
“Okay. Sure you’re not.”
“You already know nothing is going on between me and Camilla.”
“I do know that. It’s going to stay like that too.” I rested my ankle on my knee as Cole and I engaged in a stare off. Finally, Cole pushed to his feet and told me to text him the information for the meetings. I chuckled heartily as he stormed out. He hated being told what to do, but he needed a healthy dose of respect and I was just the person to give it to his hotheaded ass.

Chapter Two
Camilla
“Cole, where are you going?” I frowned and ran after him as he hit the front doors. He spun around to look at me, and then tugged me outside with him before slamming the door. “What the fuck is going on?” I asked, shielding my eyes from the harsh, Miami su
n with my hand. When the light hit Cole’s amber eyes they looked like they’d been set ablaze.
“Your husband is sending me on petty missions so we’re not alone today,” he scoffed
“Jesus,” I groaned. Emmanuel was back to showing who was really in control of everything. It was a flashback to Xavier all over again. He just had to be the alpha male in every situation, but it was a necessity in any situation that involved me. “He’s just being overprotective,” I reasoned. “We did cross the line that one time.” I bit my bottom lip nervously and looked down, giving my eyes a break from the sunrays. Cole’s shoulders slumped a bit and he nodded in agreement.
“We did. I guess if I were your husband I’d be cutting motherfuckers off around every corner too. I’m just pissed because…”
“It’s you,” I shrugged, finishing his sentence.
“Exactly. It’s me. I’m not gonna fuck you.” He eyed me momentarily and adjusted his statement. “I’m not gonna fuck you against your will.”
“Cole,” I sighed.
“I’m serious. We both know if…”
“If we wanted to, we would.” Cole and I had become the annoying type of friends that could finish each other’s thoughts and words. We had our own language and we understood each other on a level that nobody else got. “Emmanuel isn’t combative though. You know that. He just needs…”
“Control. But he needs it over every fucking thing. Shit.” Cole looked so handsome when he scowled like that.
“We just need to…”
“Back off of each other a little bit.” Cole nodded already knowing what I was going to say. “I can’t back off of you though. You’re my best friend.” I hated his sad face. It twisted my insides in knots. We hugged and I knew Emmanuel was watching from somewhere. He always was. I didn’t care though; I was hugging my best friend. Nothing more.
“Just until he calms down. Plus he’s going crazy trying to find Joseph. He’s just stressed right now.” I touched the side of Cole’s face and he nodded quietly. His phone buzzed in his pocket and he showed me the screen. It was Emmanuel sending him locations and times.
“He wants me to leave now I’m guessing. I’m not working for this motherfucker anymore if he keeps this shit up.”
“Cole, don’t be like that.”
“I’m serious. I’m not going to get pushed around because he thinks I’m fucking you.”
“He doesn’t think that,” I laughed. “He knows we’re not fucking. If he thought that we’d both be dead somewhere.”
“Then what the hell is his problem?” He snapped.
“He thinks you’re…” I hated saying what I was about to say. It made me feel something that I couldn’t identify. Cole took one look at me and knew what I was going to say.
“He thinks I’m in love with you?” He laughed and held his head back. “I’m not Xavier. I’m not in love with you, Camilla.”
“I didn’t say you were. I’m telling you what Emmanuel thinks.”
“He’s wrong,” he muttered. “Look, let me get out of here. Evidently I have shit to do.” He wrapped me up in a hug and I inhaled his scent. It was familiar and I loved it. “I’ll call you later,” he told me. Before he got in the car, he held out two fingers and I grabbed on and squeezed. “Always?”
“Yes, Cole. Always,” I smiled softly. I watched as he drove off and sighed softly. I really did understand why Emmanuel wasn’t happy with Cole and I, but things had gotten much better now that I’d left my position as New Grace’s media director and decided to stay home full time so I could be First Lady Scott.
Every time I heard anyone refer to me as that, I rolled my damn eyes in my head. I’d earned the exact same title as Dana. I hated it. I only went along because being First Lady meant I was around my husband more. The kids and I got travel with him most places he went and I was a happy camper. I had my family together and that’s all I really wanted. I just had to grin and bear it when I was forced to play my role for the public.
“He’s in love,” Emmanuel sighed from behind me.
“You are such a goddamn creep, Emmanuel.” I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard his voice seemingly out of nowhere.
“You had to know I wasn’t too far away.”
“I know but shit,” I laughed, turning to face him. “Are the kids getting ready?”
“They’re already ready to go. See, now that Cole is off handling my work for the day…” His lips found my neck. “I can be here with you.” His fingers slid up and down my sides and I closed my eyes, letting out a staggered breath. Every time he touched me I melted. I didn’t stay melted for long though because the Scott circus was barging out of the doors clamoring and being generally rowdy as usual.
“Okay baby girl, we’ll have them back and tuckered out by tonight. Enjoy your time alone.” Dad kissed my cheek and slapped hands with Emmanuel before loading up the van and strapping the kids in.
“I have the twins’ bags,” Laurel told me before giving me a hug.
“Thanks girl.”
“Don’t make anymore kids while we’re gone please, for the love of God.” She flashed me a pretty smile and hopped in the passenger’s seat. Emmanuel and I doted on the kids before Dad threatened to leave them all at the house with us if we didn’t get away from the van. I always hated saying goodbye to my babies though. I didn’t let the tears fall when they pulled off, even though I wanted to. It was just the damn zoo. I was extremely over protective after they’d been kidnapped though.
“Come on,” Emmanuel dragged me in the house and into the kitchen where I finished cleaning up the aftermath from breakfast. “I’m getting housekeepers.” He grumbled, watching me sweep the huge kitchen from corner to corner.
“Why? You wanna watch some cute housekeeper sweep instead of me?” I smirked. As soon as I bent down to pick up the dustpan, Emmanuel’s hands were gripping my hips.
“Oh, I love watching you sweep.” He tugged my ponytail until I was standing upright and kissed the back of my neck. His tongue was warm on my skin and it left goosebumps all over me. “I love watching you take this dick too.” I giggled at the fluttering sensation of his breath on my neck, and turned around to face him.
“I love taking it,” I told him. I stood on my tiptoes and licked his neck, making him laugh a little.
“How do you love taking it, Kitten?”
“However you wanna give it, Daddy,” I giggled. Emmanuel pushed me over the sink and pulled my leggings down, making a gruff noise of approval when he realized I wasn’t wearing panties. His fingers entered my cunt from behind and I whimpered at how slowly he slid in and out of me. I wanted more and I wanted it faster but I loved his pace at the same time.
When I felt him applying pressure right at my asshole I gasped. “Shh…” He instructed as he slipped one thick finger inside. I clenched around him and he growled. “You’re gonna give me your ass, Kitten. Okay?”
“Okay.” I panted as I relaxed and let him slide his finger deeper inside.
“Good.” The next thing I felt was his tongue probing my tight and puckered hole. I groaned as pleasure coiled itself around my body from my legs up. He felt so good, and he was so gentle with me. “Every part of you is so sweet.” He told me before biting my round cheeks. “Stay right here. If you move…” He landed a hard slap to my ass and I yelped, understanding what my punishment would be if I didn’t obey.
When I heard his heavy footsteps walking away I tiptoed behind him because I never fucking listened. He went upstairs and retrieved my fluffy butt plug tail and I almost squealed with anticipation. I dashed away from the bedroom trying to remain silent and beat him back to the kitchen.
I bent back over the sink and tried to act like I hadn’t moved an inch. When I felt his body heat approach me from behind I trembled a little. Emmanuel wrapped my ponytail around his fist and slapped my ass hard before he pinched my nipples between his fingers. I cried out and he told me to be quiet. “You moved,” he growled.
“
I didn’t!” I lied, my chest heaving, pushing my stiff nipples against the fabric of my shirt.
“You’re lying to me too, huh?” He laughed and shook his head before releasing my hair and turning me around to face him. “So you’re lying and being disobedient? Are you ever going to behave like I taught you, Cami?” I didn’t speak I only bit my lip and wondered what he would do to me. Excitement zipped through my body with the possibilities.
The sound of his belt coming off made me so wet I could barely contain myself. I felt a trickle slip down my thigh and Emmanuel’s eyes zeroed in on it like a fucking hawk. “So you like getting punished. That’s what it is Cami?” He gripped the belt in his hand and made a motion with his finger telling me to turn around. I decided to push him even further. I wanted to see how far Emmanuel would take it.
“No.” One word. Two letters. He lost his shit.
“No? Who the fuck are you telling no?” His brows lowered and he walked over to me but before he could snag my throat in his grasp I darted out of the kitchen and into the living room. “Camilla!” He called after me and I heard him chasing behind me with surprising speed. I giggled as I ripped through the living room, past the sectional and TV and into the dining room. Emmanuel was right on my heels too. I cut through the formal dining room and ran up the left staircase. I knew I’d lose him on the stairs.
I was wrong.
Emmanuel caught me in the hallway and threw his muscular arm around my middle sweeping me into the air. “Your little bad ass.” He chuckled without even missing a breath. His workout regimen kept him in pristine shape. Better shape than me, evidently. I was the one sucking in air like I was about to die. I squirmed like a child in Emmanuel’s grasp until he got annoyed and just tossed my body over his shoulder like a sack of laundry.
When he reached our room, he threw me on the bed and I bounced up and down like a quarter on a freshly made bed. His weight pinned me down seconds later and he had a wild glint in his coffee eyes. I struggled against him but he wouldn’t budge. He flipped me over and as soon as he moved, I scrambled away again giving another mischievous giggle.
