“I could go on and on about all the people there are to thank. Mary Jernigan, for your help in selecting wonderful books and resources for our community. Councilman Ramsey, for your support and guidance. Everyone who helped plan, facilitate, or attended a fundraiser. Marathon Construction, for actually building the building. But I have to thank my wife, Lacey Hartley, for standing up for what she knew was right, and for helping me with the vision for this project. It wouldn’t have been the same without you, and I’m so glad to have you by my side. We want to thank Our Heavenly Father for allowing us to be a part of this project. And it wouldn’t be right to go forward without saying how grateful we are to my grandparents who started this venture all those years ago. So without further ado, I would like to commemorate today by dedicating this new building in honor of Charles and Helen Hartley, to the glory of God, and for the people of Pine Haven.”

Cheers rang out across The Green. Andrew and Lacey stepped forward with the largest pair of scissors Andrew could imagine and cut the ribbon between the pillars of the building.

“Welcome! Come on in and read a book!” Andrew called out.

He held Lacey’s hand tightly in his as they watched the people pour into the building. He was shocked at the turnout, even though Lacey had told him over and over again that the whole town was coming. She had been right. Just like she had been since the day he found her in a pile of books on the library floor. Andrew watched her face as she smiled at him in an “I told you so” kind of way. But he didn’t mind.

All he could be was thankful. He thanked God that she had come into his life, and that God had finally opened his mouth to speak to her. And he thanked God for his grandparents and for the small town he loved so much.
