She spotted Ranesh Ett standing by herself and led Si’ir Monn to her.
“Ranesh, you were helpful getting people’s attention back there. You could be useful as a member of my personal staff. Will you join me?”
“No.”
“You’re disobeying an order?”
“You didn’t order me, you asked me.”
“If I ordered you, would you join my staff?”
“Yes.”
“You’re not going to be easy to work with, are you?”
“No.”
Sah Lee sighed. “All right, we’ll leave it at that, but I may order you to in the future.”
“Right.”
“Shouldn’t you be calling me Sir?”
“Probably.”
“Despite everything Ranesh, I’m pleased you joined us.”
“I’ve got some personal stuff to get.” Ranesh said as she turned and walked away.
“I think she likes you.” Si’ir Monn said.
“You might be right, but it’s difficult to tell.”
“I have received a message from Ker Din Ser Forn. He has moved his craft two kilometers from the dock. That is as close as the Generals will allow. A lander will enter Dock One shortly.”
“Why didn’t he talk to me?”
“Would you prefer that?”
“No, you’re right. I wouldn’t. Why is it that everyone around me knows the right thing to do but I don’t?”
“B’Erren Tek was right Sah Lee. You've got good people around you, and you have another major asset - me. Let us do all the organizing. Your role right now is to be the leader. Inspire your troops. Share your vision with them. Everyone here will work to make it happen. Your army could end up as the most powerful in the galaxy. We have a lot of work to do.”
“Right. We’d better get on with it.” she said, as she started walking to Dock One.
