The Keystroke Killer Page 31

by Melissa Caudle

She wiggled below him and closed her eyes. “I’ll never get my fill of you.” Adrenaline shot through her desiring body. “I want all of you.”

“You mean my index, don’t you?”

Debra’s heart pounded hard as her desire for him to be deep inside her increased. She wrapped both arms around his back and pulled him toward her. “Yes, your index.”

“Spread your legs.” His hand slid down her thigh.

Debra adjusted her position and slid her delicate hands from his waist to his tightened ass globes. Her nails dug into his muscular flesh as she breathed fast and heavy lusting for his index entry.

He pushed her left leg to the side for better access and slipped his index inside her.

She gasped in ecstasy. Oh, the richness of his index.

He thrust his hips as she squirmed beneath his sweaty body. He put his head onto her left shoulder. She panted heavy breaths as the two bodies plunged in perfect unison. “That’s it. Don’t stop!” She moaned in pleasure.

The louder she moaned, the more he rammed his index deeper and harder as if he hadn’t had sex in years. He took a deep breath. “That’s it. I’m going to explode.”

“Not yet.” She held his hips. “Yes!”

“I’m right there with you.” His sweaty body slammed into her again, and again. He moaned through his harsh breaths. Her body responded to his rhythmic action as he took the final jerk and emptied his index. He took a deep breath and eased from her. He rolled over onto his back.

Aftershocks volleyed throughout Debra’s body; her breath heavy. “I’d say you enjoyed that.”

  “Like you didn’t?”

“I can neither deny nor confirm.”

“It will have to hold you two weeks.”

“Two weeks? That’s a long time.”

“I have a prior engagement in Scotland.” I’ve found the perfect alibi.

Topside, inside the bait well of the Sweet Melissa, his prior arrangement Miranda Halsey lay bound as a bloody gauze bandage gagged her into silence. Her eyes opened. She tried to move her arms and legs. Am I dead? My mind works, but my body won’t.

  CHAPTER 36

  On the Couch

Judas sat at the control center gazing across the nine monitors. He paid particular interest to monitor nine. “Getting cozy, now aren’t you two? I’d think Dr. Wright would have better taste. Deedra, turn on the news.”

“KWNC with Samantha Breland and George Newland is on air.”

Samantha glanced at her teleprompter. “It has been two weeks since Dr. Elizabeth Wright, a forensic psychologist and private investigator Matthew Raymond discovered a suitcase behind the maintenance building at Kenner City Park containing the upper torso, arms and legs of an unidentified person. The investigators do not believe this body is connected to the recent killings by the Sorority serial killer or to the prostitutes murdered in a separate incident. Anyone who can assist investigators to identify the body please call the hotline identified below.”

Samantha looked over to George who read from the teleprompter. “In other news, escaped serial killer, Milo Evans, has not resurfaced initiating a massive fugitive hunt by the FBI. Evans, pictured here, is dangerous and if you see him, notify the police or FBI.”

  ***

Matthew settled onto the couch next to Liz. “So, this is what you do when you do your therapy sessions?”

“Not at all. My clients sit on the chaise and I sit in the chair beside it. I reserve the couch for friendly conversation.”

“This must mean I’ve moved into the friend category.”

“After finding that body together, I think you qualify, but that’s not why I asked you here.”

“Spill the beans. You have my undivided attention.”

  “It’s about Livia.”

  “Livia?”

“I did some digging. My Deedra search came up empty. There wasn’t one person in the entire world with her name. That sent chills up my spine with a very large red flag.”

“I tried to tell you that.”

“You did. But sometimes seeing is believing. I visited your parents.”

Matthew jumped from the couch. “You have no right.” He paced in front of her; his face blistered red.

“Matthew, please believe me. I did it for you.”

“I can’t wait for this explanation.”

“Please sit down and I’ll tell you about our conversation.”

Matthew glared at Liz. “I don’t know if I should go or stay.”

“Please stay.” She patted the cushion. “Sit down and hear me out. If you don’t like what you hear, you never have to speak with me again.”

Matthew wiped the sweat from his forehead as he sat. “All right doctor. I’m listening.”

“I agree your parents don’t believe Livia existed. While I was at your house, I looked at the pictures in the foyer and in the living room.”

“So, they’re only of me and my parents, I know that.”

“I also noticed there were markings on other places on the walls. Markings that include a nail hole and dust imprints. It looked like pictures used to hang there.”

  “I never noticed.”

“Well, I did. So, I asked your father what pictures were once hung. You know what his answer was?”

  “I don’t have a clue.”

“That is exactly it. Your father didn’t or couldn’t remember. I found that odd. You would think your father would, especially since he’s one of the best detectives who caught the Mind’s Eye serial killer and known for paying attention to details.”

“I need a drink. What do you have?”

“Sorry Matthew, I don’t keep anything here but water. I could use one too. We can go to the Alley Cat and get a drink?”

I can’t take her in my car. “I’ll call D-Drive. I never drink and drive.”

  “I don’t trust self-driving cars. I’ll drive my jag.”

Matthew’s cell phone buzzed. He looked at the text message from James. “We’re in luck, someone wants to meet us for a drink.”

  ***

Inside the Alley Cat at a corner table in the back, Lorenzo sat across from Santiago and Jorge.

Lorenzo sipped his draft beer and placed it next to his cell phone. “As soon as we fence this stuff, we split the doe three ways.”

Jorge beamed a look of happiness to his friends. “Seems like the good old days.”

Santiago held up his mug. “We’re back at it again.”

“Have you figured out who we hit next?” Jorge directed his gaze toward Lorenzo.

“It’s not who we hit, it’s where we hit.”

Santiago looked at Lorenzo puzzled. “Where?”

“Dr. Angela’s home. It’s payback time. Are you two in?”

Santiago took a deep breath. “Since when have I ever let you down, bro?”

Jorge nodded. “Relax. We’ve got your back. That’s if we don’t kill anyone again.”

“Do you see any warrants for our arrest?” Lorenzo’s cell phone vibrated. He read the text.

Santiago leaned toward the phone and eyed the message. “She’s got you pinned. You haven’t been free two months and your back in love jail.”

“Blaze isn’t like that. She wants to be near me. I think you’re barking up the wrong tree.”

“It’s a trap. Next thing you know, she’s having your baby.”

  “Keep it real.”

“Hell, I know a love trap when I see one.”

Lorenzo looked at Jorge. “Are you going to weigh in on this?”

“I think I need to keep my mouth shut.”

“Look guys. Blaze and I go way back.” He glanced up at the television which broadcasted the news of the decapitated body found in the luggage. He pointed to Liz, Matthew and James who sat at the bar. “Aren’t those the two who found that body in a suitcase?”

James looked at Matthew. “I like her. You have great taste in women.”

Liz raised her hand chest high. “We’r
e not an item.”

“Better news. That means I can ask you out. Do you like pilots?”

“As in a commercial airline pilot? That’s what you do?”

“I’m a fighter pilot. Top Gun style.”

Matthew raised his brow. “Wait a minute Maverick. I feel the need for speed.”

Liz’s lips dissolved into a smirk. “It’s time to grow up gentlemen. I watched that movie and wasn’t impressed.”

Matthew, from the corner of his eye, noticed Kelly’s entrance. “Oh shit.” His heart pounded.

James’ brows wrinkled. “Oh, shit what?”

“Kelly is here. Did you tell her you were meeting me?”

“Not guilty. You two are close, she probably figured it out.”

Both James and Liz eyed the door. Kelly looked as glamorous as ever in her pink tight fitting dress, pearl earrings, a pearl necklace and her yellow pumps as bright as the sun.

James leaned toward Liz. “Good thing you two aren’t an item, because that’s his girlfriend.”

“Note taken.” She twisted her lips as she gazed toward Kelly who sauntered toward her.

“Feeling jealous, are we?” James flashed the beginnings of a goofy grin.

“Not at all, we’re not an item.” Liz sipped her cocktail.

Kelly sashayed toward Liz to introduce herself. “Hello, I’m Kelly Corbin.” Her strength and her dignity were her clothing. She would never allow another beautiful woman to knock her confidence below her belt. Especially, a forensic psychologist who trended on the evening news.

“A pleasure to meet you. I’m Liz.”

Kelly kissed Liz on each cheek, Greek style. “Trust me darling, I know who you are?”

Liz’s face tensed much like a cobra about to strike, the Greek public affection offended her.

Matthew slid the stool back. “Hold it ladies, we’re friends here.”

An evil-eyed stare between the two women launched.

Matthew held up his empty mug. “Alex, another round of drinks for us and one for Ms. Corbin.”

“I want a fuzzy naval, I feel feisty.” Kelly, secure in her shoes, winked at Liz.

  ***

Blaze smacked the pillow on her couch as a flood of tears streamed. Here we go again. More venomous lies and deception. “I hate you Lorenzo.” She wiped her tears, picked up her cell phone and dialed Roth’s number. Come on Roth, answer.

  “Hello Blaze, what’s up?”

She sniffled and sunk back onto the couch. “I wanted to say thanks for the tacos today and for showing up to my party.” She whimpered as her lips formed a downward pout.

  “You’re crying, what’s wrong?”

“It’s Lorenzo, I think he’s back to his old habits.”

“You’ve got me there. I’m not sure if I understand.”

“Four years ago, he poisoned our relationship with lies. It took time to trust him after that.”

“What do you think he’s up too now?”

“Well, last time he slept with another girl and lied about where he was. Then he got arrested. He was with her.” She punched the pillow.

“That’s what’s on your mind, you think he’s sleeping around?”

“I don’t know. He didn’t come to my party, and he’s not answering my calls or texts. He’s up to something and I don’t think it’s any good. My dad might have been right about him all along.”

“It might be time to find someone you can trust and move on. Sounds as if he’s repeating his mistake. It’s hard to shed your snakeskin and still not be a snake.”

“It’s not that simple. I’m in a love hate relationship. I don’t know what he has over me.”

“Seriously, consider breaking up with him.”

“I can’t do that. I feel safe when I’m with him.”

  “What do you mean?”

“Like now, the Sorority serial killer is out there. Until he’s caught, I don’t feel safe, especially now.”

  “Meaning?”

“I think I know who the Sorority serial killer is.”

  “Seriously, who?” His voice quivered.

A knock on the door startled Blaze sending her scurrying to it, carefully checking who it was before hurrying to open it. “Oh my God, Lorenzo’s here. Thank you for listening, I feel safer now.”

“I’m always here for you. I’m Johnny on the spot.”

“Thanks Roth. You’re sweet and I’m glad we’re friends.” She opened the door and disconnected the call. “I’m glad you’re here, but you really pissed me off. Someone better be dead; or you better have one damn good excuse.”

Lorenzo leaned to kiss her, but she backed away. “Blaze, I’m sorry.”

“Not so fast, you’ve got a lot of explaining to do. Where have you been? You have you been with? And, why didn’t you come to my party? You’re in serious deep shit with me. You better tell me the truth, or we’re finished. I can’t go through this again. You got it, buster.”

  CHAPTER 37

  Suspect Pool

Agents Mansfield and Locklear gobbled their vending machine lunch in the FBI break room. Agent Mansfield removed the wrapping from the tuna sandwich and took a bite. “The last tip was a bust.”

Agent Locklear tilted her nose. “I can smell that from over here, check the expiration date.”

He took another bite. “Not that bad.”

“I thought for sure we would get a lead on the serial number from the suitcase.” She sipped her soda.

“I know, right? That was a bust too. Who in God’s name knew to remove it or even knows how? They’re pretty well hidden.”

“If we had those answers, we’d have the unsub.”

“By giving local and state police Matthew Raymond’s information, if he’s arrested, they’ll contact us.”

“What are the statistics that Matthew, a suspect in the Roxy Starlite case, finds a dead body in a suitcase? We’re talking Vegas odds.”

“About the same chance that a famous forensic psychologist would find a body that ultimately she would be called in to consult on the case.”

“Well, you know it’s a fact that unsubs find a way to be included in the investigation. What better way than to find the victim? Much less, practically in their own backyard? The same place where a person of interest captured Milo Evans. Maybe that’s his stalking grounds.”

“You think Matthew knows more than what he’s telling us?”

“Now that you put it like that, I do. He must be included into the suspect pool.”

“He has an alibi. Dr. Wright was with him when they found the body.”

“Exactly, we don’t have the exact date or time of death or the identity of the victim. When we find out, we’ll see what alibi he offers. In the meantime, he remains a person of interest in my book.”

“In the luggage case or the Starlite case?”

“I say both. Hell let’s throw him into the ring of fire as the Sorority serial killer, he at least as a perceived motive for that one.”

“We find the motive, we find the unsub.”

  ***

On the cold and sterile autopsy table lay many body parts: a torso, two amputated legs, one foot, one arm and two false-fingernailed manicured hands.

Robby took a deep breath. He looked at the corpse. “This will be difficult.” As he touched the torso, he shivered and caught his breath. “I feel you, you suffered a great deal of pain.” He grabbed for his crotch as his eyes flushed. “Son of a bitch.” He screamed as if someone had slashed his penis. His mirror touch synesthesia reverbed in his body as he examined each body part. “He really did a number to us, didn’t he?” Robby stepped backward to reflect and recover from his pain. “Deedra, start video and audio recording.”

“Recording has commenced. You may proceed with the autopsy.”

“We don’t have a head and both femurs have been removed by a circular saw. The pelvic bone is intact. I wish I had the gift to see who killed you, every serial ki
ller would be caught and executed.”

He looked at the victim’s augmented breasts and pressed the left one. He grimaced in pain as his chest heaved. “By the lace nightgown and the augmentation mammaplasty, the victim is likely female.” His words faltered from the pain he absorbed.

Robby’s hands trembled as he lifted the left dismembered hand. “The left hand is remarkable. The callus on the thumb and index finger gives the impression the victim is left-handed. The oval shape diamond ring, approximately two carats, is surrounded by swollen flesh.” He examined the lower extremity. “There are no noticeable tattoos on the front torso, but there is a fresh branded tattoo on the victim’s upper-back left shoulder that looks to be the capital letters ‘M’ with a ‘T’ below it. The marking looks to be three weeks into the healing process.”

Agent Locklear and Agent Mansfield entered the autopsy area.

“I was expecting the local police, not the FBI. Deedra, stop recording session.”

Agent Mansfield swiped his brow. “We’re taking it upon ourselves. Matthew Raymond, the man who found the luggage is also a person of interest in the Roxy Starlite case.”

“I can tell you it’s not the same killer.”

“How can you be certain?” Agent Locklear imparted a dismissive shrug.

“Not the same type of kill, whoever killed Ms. Starlite didn’t do this.”

“All right clue us in.” Agent Locklear shifted her weight and crossed her arms over her chest.

“I’d like to point out the victim has breast implants which I can remove and trace the serial numbers. It will take time to get the results, but we will have a positive identification. I was also able to get a DNA sample which should also help in the identification process of the victim.”

Agent Locklear looked pleased with Robby’s progress. “This is great. At least we’ll have something to guide us in the right direction to identify this woman.”

“She isn’t a she, she is in fact, a he. That’s where things get a little more obscured.”

Agent Mansfield's thick black brows raised toward his hairline. “Are you telling us the decapitated girl with breast implants is male?”
