If your boy Clinton had used the same facts above and acted with the same decisiveness as President Bush, you would have hailed him as a bold and courageous savior of the free world. You would have been climbing over each other for the privilege of touching his feet. You probably would have willingly enrolled your daughters in his intern-training program.
So get over it libs. It is time to swallow your pride and get behind the president and our military and show a united front to these Islamic fascists.
For once, do what is best for our country rather than your shallow political gain. This is a war we simply cannot lose, and only through linked resolve can we expect to win it.
U.N. Needs a New Home
It’s time for the UN to pack up and leave. Last week should have shown why they no
longer deserve to be located here.
President Bush gives an excellent speech about democracy, human rights and spreading freedom, and he gets a very light applause.
Then the little tinhorn buffoon of a dictator from Venezuela gets up and tries to be a Robin Williams with his comedic speech; and every time he insults President Bush, our country or Israel, he gets a laugh from the General Assembly.
Then, not to be outdone, the mentally unstable “elected” leader of Iran gets up
and accuses the U.S. of war crimes, among other things.
This mental shrimp is merely a puppet of the Islamofascist mullahs and nothing more. If you look closely, you can see the strings attached to him, being pulled by these religious zealots.
Remember, these are the fools who determined which candidates were to be allowed to run for office, removing hundreds of “undesirable” individuals from the ballot. Then to further rub salt into the wound, the assembly gives them both very loud and sustained ovations.
I’m sick and tired of being insulted by these Third World despots and being their welfare agency.
The United States presently is assessed 22 percent of the entire U.N. budget, in addition to having contributed both the land and the U.N. building upon which it sits.
Do you think we get much of a say in the development of the U.N.’s budget? Think again. Of the 192 countries that make up the general assembly, 85 pay the minimum assessment of .01 percent (yes, that’s one one-hundreths of 1 percent) and another 13 countries each pay .02 percent.
That means the majority of the General Assembly votes are made up of those countries that pay slightly more than 1 percent of the entire budget of the U.N.!
And yet, this majority pretty much determines how much and where the finances end up. Basically, the American taxpayer is financing all the little pet projects of third world dictators.
Don’t feel sorry for these poor, little Third World countries. Although their people may be poor and we should feel sorry for their condition, their elite certainly aren’t. Most of the U.N. funds dedicated to “projects” end up in the pockets of these privileged few.
Do you think the liberals raise a stink about this inequity? No way. This could be made no clearer than when one of the leaders of the Hollywood Socialists, Danny Glover, made a fool of himself when he publicly and repeatedly embraced little Hugo.
Maybe Glover’s reading tutor should read to him all the human-rights abuses going on in his hero’s country. Wise up Danny. Go back to school and try again. You obviously failed the first time around. Let’s not forget about the anti-Israeli, anti- America bias. Of the over 700 General Assembly resolutions passed, almost 480 condemn Israel.
The same holds true in the Security Council, made up of both permanent and nonpermanent members. From the very beginning, of 135 Security Council resolutions passed, 90 were anti-Israel.
Do you think the U.S. fares any better? Think again. Our Middle East “allies” consistently vote against us. Kuwait 86 percent of the time and UAE, Qatar and Jordan 89 percent of the time.
Remember, we send Jordan $192 million a year. Egypt votes against us 86 percent of the time and we give them $2 billion a year!
And don’t forget our Saudi friends. They are against us 90 percent of the time.
The list goes on and on.
Israel, on the other hand, consistently votes with us over 90 percent of the
time.
Don’t even start about corruption. Type in “U.N. corruption” on your computer
and you get almost 14 million hits.
Everybody knows about the oil for food scandal and Kofi’s son’s involvement. Remember the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon? During the latest Israeli retaliation, this group actually posted on their website Israel Defense Forces movements, strength and amount of materiel involved.
All this was posted within 30 minutes of it happening. I’ll bet Hezbollah forces found this useful. On the other hand, not one bit of intelligence of terrorist action was reported.
You can’t convince me of the economic hardships that the U.S. would go through if the U.N. moved out. U.N. bureaucrats, in addition to their extremely high salaries and low productivity, get unbelievable fringes. Monthly rent subsidies of $3,800, education grants of $13,000 per child and many, many others. Remember, we are paying for 22 percent of these costs.
So, where do we move them to? Downtown Damascus would be nice. How about North Korea or even the area the Palestinians presently occupy?
I can just imagine all of these elite bureaucrats enjoying the many cultural offerings of these places, as long as they don’t forget to dodge the suicide/homicide bombers.
GOP Strayed From Its Roots
I’m afraid the Republicans might have jeopardized their ability to hold on to a majority
in either the Senate or the House, maybe both.
Don’t think it will be because of the Democrats and their uplifting message. They deal in dirt and negativity, reacting to polls rather than putting out positive, upbeat ideas for what is best for the United States. Their majorities, if obtained, will be short- lived if the Republicans can regroup and get their act together.
The reason for the possible failures in November will be because of their straying from conservative roots and the conservative voters they’ve disillusioned and abandoned.
One only has to look back to the Reagan years to see what works. President Reagan stuck with conservative values and did not stray from these principles. It is obvious that this unwavering, core message, clearly communicated, resonated with the vast majority of Americans, both conservative and moderate, rather than the strategy attempted by the liberal left. They kissed up to every special interest, wacko group and had to tailor their message to each, leaving them with no message at all. The proof is in the pudding.
Reagan, running in 1980 against one of the worst presidents ever, Jimmy Carter, won by a landslide. He won 51percent of the popular vote compared to Carter’s
41 percent, 44 states to six, and 489 electoral votes compared to Carter’s 49. Republicans also gained 33 House seats and 12 Senate seats, kicking out liberal leaders right and left.
The results in 1984 was even more lopsided. Running against a Minnesota liberal, Walter Mondale, Reagan won 59 percent of the popular vote (unheard of previously), 49 states and 525 electoral votes! Mondale only won his home state of Minnesota and that by only 2,000 votes. The facts were simple. The economy was much improved, our military was rebuilt and strong again, national morale was upbeat, and Soviet influence was stopped in its tracks.
It just goes to show that when a true conservative runs against a liberal, the conservative candidate wins every time. Neither of the Bushes were true conservatives although, George W. was closer than his father.
The platform this time should be simple. First, we should continue to build our military strength, which was severely harmed during both the Carter and Clinton years.
Second, government spending must be reduced. This is where Bush has let conservatives down. If our Founding Fathers could see what the federal government has grown to, they would be ashamed.
Third, make the tax cuts n
ow in place permanent. Even with runaway spending, the costs of the Iraq war, and Katrina, our economy has never been stronger and is growing at record rates. Government revenues are up (lower rates mean more revenues), unemployment is at historic lows (tax cuts create jobs), and more and more people are freed from paying taxes altogether every year. There should be even more cuts made.
The Democrats don’t understand that tax cuts are for tax payers. Yes, the evil rich capitalists are having their obscene tax burden reduced. The Democrats’ definition of a rich person seems to be anyone with a job.
Fourth, strong illegal immigration policies. Illegals don’t deserve to be here. They should be sent home, and others should be prevented from coming here illegally. We have laws that allow people to come here legally, and they should be enforced. Strong border security is a must. Three cheers for a Mexican border fence and the patriotic Minutemen.
Fifth, energy independence. That means more drilling in Alaska and off the Gulf Coast and using coal as a major energy source again. It is estimated that we have over 250 years worth of coal reserves. Also, nuclear energy plants, wind stations and ethanol development are a must. There should be no more delays, and environmentalists should be steamrolled if they get in the way. Research and technology will find ways to dispose of nuclear waste safely, burn coal cleanly, and get the cost of ethanol production down. I am more than willing to pay a little more for ethanol if it means countries in the Middle East, Mexico and Venezuela can no longer blackmail us with oil.
Lastly, but certainly not least, is to hold onto the Christian values that the country founded on and has grown strong on. That means bringing back school prayer, displaying the Ten Commandments and putting the Christ back in Christmas. The Liberals just don’t get it. 70 percent of Americans want their president to be a person of faith. No secular candidate has a chance. Democrats talk about organized religion in a negative context. Then they suddenly find religion around campaign time. Pitiful.
Reagan proved it twice, and a strong conservative candidate can prove it again.
Conservative values win every time.
Don’t Let Liberals Win Congress
I can’t believe that by the time you read this column there will be only seven
more days until Election Tuesday.
I know for sure that I will be staying up late Tuesday night, and I sure won’t be
listening to ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN for election analysis.
This will be one of the most important House and Senate votes in recent memory. As for me, I am becoming more and more cautiously optimistic that the Republicans will retain control of both Houses.
Why do I say this? I know there are liberals out there that are gloating right now, and I think that is a sign of overconfidence.
Remember all the noise when Joe Lieberman lost in the primaries to Ned Lamont? Everyone was crowing how it was the end of the pro-war politicians. Where is Lieberman now? I think he is 15 or more points ahead of Lamont in most polls. Oops. Any of you liberals have an explanation for that turnaround?
The same phenomenon is happening in Tennessee, where Republican Bob Corker is making a strong comeback against the Democratic candidate, Harold Ford Jr.
A race that the media has claimed as a Republican loss now has a good chance of the GOP keeping another Senate seat. It’s the same momentum taking place in the races in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Missouri, New Jersey, and Montana. Even John Murtha might have a tough fight over his House seat. Better keep the champagne on ice a little longer, Dems.
You can tell the Republicans are staging a comeback by just listening to the rabid ranting and raving coming from the media and the Democrats that the Republicans are failing at all points.
They are desperately trying to convince conservative voters that the election is a done deal, and they might as well sit this one out.
Their behavior is a good sign that liberals, Democrats and the media are scared to death of the Christian conservatives and the traditional-values voters coming out to vote rather than staying out of the elections as is being (desperately) predicted.
I think they will come out in droves as they begin to realize what a danger it will be for the country if Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, John Edwards, Howard Dean, Harry Reid, and others of their ilk take control of the Democratic Party and key Congressional committees.
These are the people who were steadfast against the Patriot Act, who have absolutely no plan for the future, and who will roll back the tax cuts that have been responsible for the strong economy we are now experiencing.
And don’t forget about all the activist judges that will be appointed under their reign. You can count on the ACLU and others pushing their minority agenda through a friendly court system that otherwise wouldn’t stand a chance if put to public vote.
Just look at the latest travesty of justice when Judge John Koeltl, a Clinton appointee, ignored prosecution requests and jury verdicts and slapped activist Lynne Stewart on the wrist with a 28 month jail sentence that she probably won’t serve for years, if ever.
She could have and should have gotten the full thirty years she deserved. All she did was pass messages on from Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman to his radical terrorist group. Who knows how many lives were lost as a result of her actions?
Even scarier, can you imagine Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House? She would actually be next in line to the presidency should fate take the lives of the president and vice president. This is the woman who supports the National American Man/Boy Love Association, which I am assuming she does since she has repeatedly marched with them in their parades. Do you really want a woman who has a 90 percent approval rating from the ACLU as the House leader? Get real. I don’t care how blindly you hate Bush, you can’t possibly see her promotion as a positive step for the country.
She wants to dismantle the Patriot Act, stop legal wiretapping of terrorists, close down Gitmo, and demand a lawyer be present at all terrorist interrogations!
Whatever happens, it will be over in a week. Conservative voters have absolutely no excuse that would keep them from voting in this very important election. But you must do more than this. For the good of the country, lock a liberal in a closet on Election Day.
Don’t be totally unkind. Make sure you leave them a flashlight and an Ann
Coulter book to read.
Finding Optimism in Election Stumbles
I have to admit, I was very disappointed in the election results last Tuesday night. I went to bed thinking how bad the final counts would be, and when I woke up the next morning, the results were even worse.
However, when looking closely at the final figures, listening to several commentaries, and reading what many columnists had to say about the election, I started feeling slightly more optimistic.
First of all, many of the races were extremely close. In 18 of the House races that the Democrats won, the vote spread in each was 8,000 votes or fewer. In one district the spread was only 200 votes.
In those 18 races won by Democrats, 13 beat out Republican incumbents. The new liberal-leading Democrat majority certainly shouldn’t count Tuesday as a sweeping mandate.
Also, many of the Democrat wins were by conservative-leaning Democrats, especially in the Midwestern states. I am hoping that they will not blindly follow the liberal left’s post election plans for big government, big spending, tax increases, and unending Congressional “oversight” investigations.
If they do go along, then the Republicans should be back in control of both houses in two years.
Let’s face it, the Republican Party lost its way. That is what really cost it the election and not because the Democrats had a better vision for the country. Far from it.
Actually, it will be interesting to finally see what their plan for leading the country is.
The real reason why the Republicans lost the election is that they strayed from the conservative values and voter base that got them elected in the first place. They took this
block for granted, and this act backfired on them severely.
“ We conservatives have been stabbed in the back far too many times.” Columnist John Hawkins pointed out the many times this has happened.
At the top of the list is the out-of-control spending by Republicans. We want wasteful spending cut, limited government, and individual responsibility.
The Ted Kennedy partnership, the Harriet Meiers Supreme Court nomination when there were many, far more qualified conservative judges to be nominated, and the failure to let the incompetent, corrupt Louisiana state and local governments off the hook for being responsible for the Katrina fiasco all added up to sufficient disgust and sent an important message.
Believe it or not, this message was more important than the dangerous Pelosi- Reid leadership possibility. Hopefully, these two liberals will be prevented from doing too much damage over the next two years when we can reclaim both houses.
As feared, many conservative voters simply sat this one out. For the first time since the 1990 House and Senate elections, Democrat voters outnumbered Republican voters.
They felt it was important to send a strong message to House and Senate Republicans that they better get back to the conservative values that got them elected in the first place. I have a feeling they got this message a little too late.
One bright note to be optimistic about. Stephen Breyer, age 68, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, age 73, and John Paul Stevens, age 86 might now see it safe to step down from their Supreme Court positions. Anyone who replaces them will be a plus for the country. Bush still has the power to nominate potential replacements.
So stay optimistic, fellow conservatives. The conservative movement is still alive and well and growing all the time. The Republican Party, hopefully, got the message and we will be back in power very soon.
