I stared at her, as a rush of images passed through my mind. I was in the forest, the cabin, then a soft bed, and then in a hospital. The feelings that encompassed my system were sudden and lifted my heavy heart.

‘Please turn your head so I can check your wound.’

‘I’m fine,’ I said quietly, watching her with wary eyes. Why was she being so cold?

Anderson’s soft, gentle fingers caressed my wound gently. Her face was fixed in a frown and I knew I was the one who had put it there.

Lifting my hand to hers, I cupped her bandaged hand against my cheek. ‘I remember, Andi,’ I told her in a whisper, my eyes holding her intense gaze.

I saw her eyes widen and then the smile that crossed her face was pure relief.

‘Oh, Beth,’ she said huskily. ‘I’ve been to hell and back this past month.’

I chuckled at her words. ‘Don’t be saying that,’ I grinned, ‘no-one will believe you.’

Her eyes held mine with an intensity which was undeniable. ‘Do you have any idea how I feel about you, Beth?’

I released a long breath, feeling the weight of emotion pressing heavily upon me. Well, I’m completely and utterly in love with you, Andi, so I’m hoping it’s something along those lines.’

Her eyes answered my question. ‘I love you, Beth.’

  ‘I love you too, Andi.’

She rested her head against mine and we stayed there, on the floor for a long time, whispering soft words to each other in the busy room. When at last it was time to leave, Anderson held out her hand to me.

‘Where are we going next?’ I asked her.

‘Anywhere,’ she replied, ‘so long as it’s with you.’

  Coming soon…
