  Author’s Notes

This work of fiction is written in a script format. I envision my work this way in order to get straight to the point. I believe telling a story is more important then too much or too little description, word count, or any form of a “traditional image.” I believe that there are enough authors already writing in those lanes, therefore, I want my readers to breeze through my content. As I got older, my schedule got busier. I also lost interest in reading more and I discovered it was from the lack of excitement. I found that books carried a lot of filler, believing it was more so of “meeting a certain word count for the book shelf.” Because of this, I created my own vision. This vision hasn’t been perfected yet, so I am open to any feedback given. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy my vision.

  ACT ONE

  SCENE ONE

  INT. QUINTON’S HOUSE, LATE MORNING

Quinton, a twenty-seven year old man, is sitting in his living room with his therapist, Alexis.

There is a short silence in the room before a conversation is sparked.

  Alexis

The medication the nurse gave you, is it helping?

  Quinton

(Short pause) How was it supposed to help me? I still remember Olivia.

  Alexis

Well it wasn't supposed to make you forget, Quinton. The medication was supposed to help you find a better way of dealing with the situation, calming down your depression.

  Quinton

Well it didn't do either.(Gets up and pours him an alcoholic beverage in the kitchen. He continues to speak from the kitchen) I'm still depressed, I'm still having nightmares and i'm still(Quinton pauses for a moment) being visited by Olivia's spirit.

  Alexis

Quinton, what did you two talk about this time?

  Quinton

She went on about being with me sooner than later. How her watching me grow and age, only hurt her further. She said she has been waiting to pass onto the afterlife without me.

  Alexis

Has she identified what she wants from you?

  Quinton

She says (short pause) she wants me to join her. She says only then she will be happy again. I always ask her how I can join her, but she never answers. She always disappears after that question. So in order to see her longer and spend more time with her, I save that conversation for the end of our chat sessions now.

  Alexis

Quinton, have you ever thought about taking your own life? Is this spirit encouraging those thoughts?

  Quinton

Sigh. No doc. Like I said, our conversations never come to any solutions. We just usually talk about events that have already happened. I mean, i've always heard of crazy people going through this, but I never thought i'd be one of them.

  Alexis

(Looks down at cellphone for a split moment) Maybe you aren't one of the crazy ones.(Stands up) I'm afraid I have another session to go to before I get off work, i'll see you again tomorrow Quinton.

  Quinton

  (Nods) Okay Alexis.

  Alexis

(Walking to the door, she looks back at him before opening it) I'll be over here same time tomorrow, hopefully we can get you through this buddy.

Quinton gives her half a smile before she leaves out the door. Locking the door behind her, Quinton took his alcohol into the bedroom with him and went to sleep in his bed.

Not too long after, he gets a knock at the door. Quinton can’t hear the knocking.

The knocking goes on for a brief moment before a key is used and the person knocking unlocks the door.

Three people enter the home. It is none other than Quinton's three younger brothers, Devin, Damian, and Eric.

  Damian

  Quinton? Quinton, you here?

  Eric

Quinton? Big brother, did you get our message?

Eric goes into the bedroom to look for Quinton. The other two brothers, Devin and Damian, place their luggage down and made themselves at home.

  Devin

I hope Quinton has comfortable beds, my neck hurts from that damn flight.

  Damian

Yeah. Sigh. It’s such a shame that Olivia is gone, I hope Quinton is okay.

  Devin

Let the therapist tell it, he's not doing too well. She says he's been talking to a deceased Olivia.

  Damian

He must not be taking his mental meds.

Eric enters the living room with Quinton behind him, Quinton still tired from his nap.

  Quinton

What the hell is this i'm hearing about you guys moving in?

  Devin

We're not moving in for good, okay? Your therapist called us a few days ago and requested that we watch after you.

  Quinton

Well I don't need anybody watching over me

  Damian

It was either us or a bunch of nurses. She says the behavior you have revealed to her was supposed to be reason enough for her to submit you into a mental institute. But she didn't want to do that, so she called us and asked if we could vouch for you.

  Quinton

Sigh. And how long will this last?

  Eric

Does it matter brother? We just want to help you.

  Quinton

  I don't want help; don't need it.

  Devin

Well we're here to stay until otherwise, or at least until you're not crazy anymore.

  Quinton

So tell me Devin, how will you help me? Are you going to tell me that there's no such thing as spirits, or ghost? Or maybe you just want me to wake up and smell the dead coffee and realize that Olivia is never coming back, is that it?

  Devin

  That's a start.

  Quinton

Whatever (Leaves back into his room and slams the door shut).

  Eric

Be easier on Quinton, he's going through a tough time.

  Devin

She's been dead for three months Eric, how much longer is he going to sit around moping?

  Damian

You're selfish Devin, so you wouldn't understand.

  Devin

  Stay out of this Damian.

  Eric

Damian's right. You've always cared only about yourself. Hell, you can't even keep a girl after the second date, let alone have one long enough to love her. Quinton has known this girl since he dropped out of high school. His first apartment was with Olivia. Now is not the time to compare yourself to others.

  Eric walks away from Devin.

  Scene Two

  INT. QUINTON’S HOUSE, LATE NIGHT

The day goes by and everyone is now asleep. Everyone except for Quinton, who sits on the edge of his bed talking to Olivia.

Olivia stands in front of him.

  Quinton

Olivia, I miss you so much.

  Olivia

I know you do. I miss you too Quinton. But life has a funny way of changing. One minute you’re here, the next minute its over. That scary moment that everyone tries not to think about until its time.

  Quinton

I'm so sorry that this has happened to you.

  Olivia

I know you are. You tell me this every night.

  Quinton

Why do you come here every night? I mean, have you found a way to move on yet?

  Olivia

No. Do you want me to stop coming around?

  Quinton

No, I want you not to suffer anymore. I want you to find peace.

  Olivia

Quinton, people will always suffer, as long as men like Berry exist. Men who are self cente
red, and only concern themselves with gluttony and sin. It will always be like this, unless you help me fix it.

  Quinton

Fix it? What do you mean? You’re gone, I can't fix it.

  Olivia

You're right, Olivia is gone. But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be some sort of justice done.

  Quinton

(Gets up from the bed) Why are you talking in third person?

  Olivia

Quinton, Olivia has been talking to you only because of my allowance. I thought it would be fitting if I gave you more time with her than you had while she was living. But I can't keep her in this world forever. There are powers and rules that tie within the afterlife. I've been breaking them for you.

  Quinton

If you're not her, than who are?

  Olivia

I go by Michael. I'm sure you've heard of me.

  Quinton

  Michael?

  Michael

  The archangel.

  Quinton

What have you done with Olivia?

  Michael

As I said before, I kept Olivia's spirit on earth all this time for you, just so you could have more time together. However, i'm afraid that's as far as I could drag her time with you. I had to release her into the afterlife.

  Quinton

So why do you look like Olivia?

  Michael

If I showed you my true form, you'd go blind. An angel's grace is very bright to gifted eyes. An archangel's grace is death to human eyes.

  Quinton

So...all those conversations Olivia and I had-

  Michael

Were real. You and her really spoke, but now it's time for you and I to talk. What happened to your fiancé was a tragedy. That drunk man crashing into your fiancé's car at the stop light was awful. Her dying, and him living, even when she was the one who followed the rules. People like him shouldn't exist in this world, and frankly, I'm tired of watching it. Now, I am going to give you a chance to not only get redemption, but to rid the world of all people like him.

  Quinton

How are you going to do that?

  Michael

I need to take control of your body and mind, making us one person. This'll only be temporarily.

  Quinton

Th...this has to be some sort of dream. I mean, i've been talking to a spirit of my former girlfriend this entire time, and now i'm speaking to an angel that wants to possess me?

  Michael

Its the only way I can make things happen in the world of the living. My father has made limitations, creating a strict line between the afterlife and the living. I know this is a lot to take in, but it’s an offer that very little can say they've had.

  Quinton

And why would I do something like this? After all that you say you can do is done, where does it leave me? I won't be at peace. I'll still remember Olivia. I'll still be in pain.

  Michael

Then i'll erase your memory of her. Clean slate. I'll also erase the memories of anyone who has came in contact with you over the death of Olivia.

  Quinton

I don't want that either. I want to remember Olivia, its the only thing that gets me by.

  Michael

Tell you what, i'll pass you on, into the afterlife.

  Quinton

What do you mean? You'll kill me?

  Michael

I won't murder you, if that's what you mean. I'm saying once my job is done here, i'll stay in this world inside your vessel, and i'll pass your soul to the afterlife with Olivia. It'll be quick and painless. You won't feel anything. (Quinton doesn't answer) I'll leave you time to think on it. I'll be back two nights from now for your answer. Just ask yourself this...your entire life you wanted what every human wants, to feel complete. If Olivia made you feel that way and she's gone, why live a life of incompletion.

  SCENE THREE

  INT. KITCHEN, EARLY MORNING

Quinton stands in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee, with Devin entering the kitchen shortly after.

  Devin

I heard you talking to yourself last night.

  Quinton

  I wasn't talking to myself.

  Devin

Quinton, you need to take your medication.

  Quinton

Is this how you're going to start every morning off? Coming into the kitchen telling me how crazy I am?

  Devin

  Nobody thinks you're crazy, Quinton.

  Quinton

  Whatever bro.

Quinton leaves the kitchen and goes into his room. Eric enters the kitchen afterwards.

  Eric

  Was Quinton just out here?

  Devin

  Yeah.

  Eric

You two didn't get into an argument, did you?

  Devin

No, he didn't stick around long enough for that to happen.

  Eric

Sigh. Devin, i'm begging you, ease up on Quinton. None of us could ever imagine what it feels like to lose someone you've loved to death.

  Devin

Understandable. But i'm not used to seeing our big brother this weak. I'm used to him being strong and sporting off leadership.

  Eric

So what, you want him to be an android?

  Devin

I'm not saying that. I just want him to find a way out of this loop that he's in. The old Quinton wouldn't dwell on the past. He would acknowledge that the past can't be changed and that he needed to do something to better his future. Eric, last night I heard him talking

to himself. The conversations he had...further proves how jacked up in the head our brother has become.

  Eric

  What did he say?

  Devin

First it sounded like he was talking to his fiancé. But then he started talking about death and an angel.

  Eric

What? None of that makes a lick of sense.

  Devin

He said more but I was half sleep so I don't remember the entire conversation. But I know it was some creepy shit. Eric, our brother had an entire conversation with himself. Like, he was answering himself back.

  Entering the kitchen, Damian speaks.

  Damian

Good morning. I sure hope you two shit heads aren't in here talking about our depressed big brother.

  Eric

  It wasn't like that.

  Damian

Really? Because I could hear you guys in the bathroom, which means there's a high chance that Quinton could hear you in his room. Devin, you have some nerves to come into our brothers home and mock him for the crisis he is going through.

  Devin

You didn't hear what I heard last night.

  Damian

I don't give a fuck about what you heard.

  Devin

So you're really going to enter this bullshit?

  Damian gets in Devin's face.

  Damian

Talk bad about our brother one more time and Eric will be trying to find the shut off button on my back, as i'm kicking your ass. Understood? His therapist didn't call us here to make matters worst, she called us here to help him.

  Devin

  (Moment of silence) Whatever bro.

Devin leaves the kitchen and goes into his room.

  Damian

Don't say a word Eric. Devin needed to hear that.

  Eric

Well, good morning. That's how the day should have started off.

There is a knock at the front door. Damian answers it, seeing a woman at the door holding a pie.

  INT. LIVING ROOM, EARLY MORNING

  Woman

Good morning, i'm sorry to bother you all so early, but I was at the store and I accidentally grabbed two pies. I remembered Quinton liked the last pie I brought him, so I was just seeing if he wanted this one.

  Damian

(Accepts the pie and hands it to Eric) He's in his room, i'm his brother Damian. May I ask your na
me?

  Woman

  I'm Brittney.

  Damian

Brittney is it? Would you like to come in?

  Brittney

I'm sorry I can't, I have a meeting at my job later today. It was nice meeting you though.

Brittney leaves and Damian closes the door. Eric and Damian sit on the couch.

  Damian

Wow. Quinton has a neighbor that good looking bringing him pies? I think I love it over here.

  Eric

Why don't we get Quinton and Brittney to hang out? She said she's been over here before.

  Damian

Yeah, but I don't know if its a good idea.

  Eric

Why? Don't tell me you like her.

  Damian

  You've gotta admit, she's hot.

  Eric

Yeah, but this isn't about that. She's the only friend that we've seen Quinton have so far, so maybe if they hung out more often, it'll ease his mind off of Olivia.

  Damian

I mean she never once said that her and Quinton were friends. More like neighbors.

  Eric

Enough of this who saw her first crap. You've been after Quinton's women since we were kids.

  Damian

  Not true.

  Eric

Is so. You asked Olivia for her number the first day you met her.

  Damian

And look how that turned out, she ended up engaged to Quinton. So in a way, I was like a cupid or something.

  Eric

It's settled, I'm going next door to arrange a dinner date with Quinton and the woman.

  Damian

(Watches Eric get up and says) I'm going with you.

  Eric

  No stay here.

Eric leaves out the front door.

  SCENE FOUR

Quinton enters the kitchen for something to eat. Damian goes in the kitchen with him.

  Damian

  Morning big bro.

  Quinton

Hey Damian, you sleep well last night?

  Damian

Actually I did. Those guest beds feel way better than the bed I got back at my apartment.

  Quinton

Well, listen, I know I wasn't too hyped about you guys coming over, but I wanted to let you know how grateful I am that you guys actually came. It means a lot. You three are welcomed to stay here as long as you like.

  Damian

  Thanks bro.

  Quinton
