The Masters- RE- Revolver Page 5

by Matthew Weldon

Sharik gave a look of displeasure and said, “Well, I would prefer that the military not get involved, but the main objective was done. Due to all the heat, we need to not make any moves. You two take a vacation. Return in a week and lay low. Don’t do anything to draw attention to yourselves.”

“Yes, my Lord,” Revolver and I said in unison.

Lord Sharik then disconnected. Revolver turned on the TV to check the news. I collapsed back on my bed and closed my eyes. I was happy that we got to take a break. I heard the news talk about the explosion and how the military is trying to investigate into how it happened.

Revolver turned to me and asked, “Okay, so what was up with that power? You did something to stop that zombie…what was it called again?”

I thought for a moment, “Oh, Treachery.”

“Yes, that’s it. So, what was that power?” Revolver continued to ask.

I tried to come up with an answer, but nothing was coming to me.

“I really don’t know, Revolver. Can’t we just not think about it while we are on vacation?” I finally answered.

Revolver folded his arms, “I’d rather not. The aura that emitted from you was purple, similar to Vlaykre’s Gravity and Master Psychic’s abilities.”

  “Master Psychic?” I questioned.

“Her name was Ansel. There was one other before her with the same power, which is to use your mind to control the minds of others and lift objects. His name was Yazrix. The name didn’t stick and from what I’m told, he hated the name anyways,” Revolver explained.

Yazrix sounded very familiar to me.

Revolver continued, “It can’t be gravity because treachery wasn’t forced to the ground or forced into the air due to lack of gravity. There was this other guy I heard about, Master Time. He only appears when needed. I’ve never met him though. It’s the only logical power that I can think of though.”

  “Time powers, huh?” I questioned.

There was something about that name, Master Time, almost as if it were my name. We pondered more for some time. Then the book crossed my mind. I leaned off my bed and rummaged in my bag. I pulled out the book and sat back up.

“Before I forget. I found this while we were down there,” I said, handing him the book.

Revolver unfolded his arms, took the book, and examined it with a curious look.

“The weird thing is, I think I’ve seen a similar book with a similar title before. Just not sure where exactly,” I added.

Revolver looked even more curious. He opened it and tried to read it, skimming through the pages. He did that for a few minutes before closing it.

“I can’t read it. The sentences don’t make any sense. It’s also in an old text,” He concluded, handing it back to me.

He looked slightly frustrated about it. I started to remember Sabotage talking about someone he was helping that helped him.

I then questioned, “What I’m wondering is who was that person Sabotage was talking about.”

“I don’t know,” Revolver said shrugging it off.

I decided to drop it and thought, ‘It was probably nothing important, anyways.’

“Well, I guess we are free to do whatever what want for a while. Anything you have in mind?” He asked me.

  “Not really,” I replied.

Revolver sighed, “That’s always you’re answer when we go on vacation.”

“This is like the third time we’ve been given a vacation,” I threw back at him.

“Yeah and you never pick where you want to go,” He responded.

I sighed and didn’t say anything.

“Fine, I’ll pick again. First, we are going outside of the city into the forest,” Revolver stated.

  I questioned, “What is there?”

“Something important. You’ll see when we get there,” Revolver answered.

We went to bed afterwards. I had a hard time falling asleep. My curiosity for the book and the power I exhibited earlier kept me up. I eventually forced myself to sleep. The next morning, Revolver woke me up and we got ready. We left and ventured through the city. Revolver was leading me. It was close to lunch time as we got close to edge of the city. Revolver and I stopped for lunch at a fast food restaurant. After that we got just outside of the city. I spotted the forest not too far away. It was also where the waterfall that the city is named after was.

“From here, it’ll be a three-hour walk. We’ll eventually get to an unmarked road that connects to the main road,” Revolver said.

“…and you know this, how?” I asked him.

He looked back at me with a serious face.

  “I just do,” He remarked.

  He faced forward and continued.

‘What are you not telling me, Revolver?’ I thought.

We continued walking, not saying much to each other. Over a couple of hours had passed. We would occasionally talk about random things of non-importance. We would also take small breaks. Cars would pass us every few minutes. We came up to the unmarked road that was narrower.

Revolver then said, “This way. It’s about twenty minutes from here,”

“Twenty minutes?” I complained with a sigh.

My legs were tired at this point. After all the traveling from yesterday, on top of everything we did today, I just wanted to sit around for two days and not move.

“Almost there, Spex,” Revolver encouragingly said.

He didn’t seem tired at all. More so determined if anything. I continued to follow him. After twenty minutes, we reached a clearing. We stopped right at the edge. Revolver grabbed me and pulled me behind a tree along with him. He signaled to stay quiet. He then peaked out to see if there was anyone around. I did the same and saw on the side that there was house. Suddenly, the area started to look familiar, like I’ve stood in the clearing before.

“Where are we?” I questioned, whispering.

Revolver sighed, “That older house there, my Grandmother lives there.”

“Is that the reason why you wanted to come here?” I asked.

“No, it’s not. Follow me,” He answered.

We snuck through the trees and into a smaller clearing. There where what looked like tombstones lined up in rows. We got closer and started to make out the different names on them.

I was a little shocked, “Is this a graveyard?”

Revolver nodded, “Yes. It’s a graveyard for my family and family friends of ours that we’ve lost.”

Revolver made his way over to one and stared at it for a moment before kneeling next to it. I got closer and began to read the over the names on tombstones. Vlayru, Ryder, Hana, and Ayla. I was also surprised to see Sabre here as well. Whenever I heard about him, it was always about these great feats that he accomplished. It was almost like he would never die.

I walked over to Revolver. His face was down, but I could tell there were tears rolling down his eyes. I looked at the tombstone that he was looking at and saw the name Daggar on it.

I asked softly, “Who is Daggar?”

Revolver didn’t answer at first. He remained quite then spoke.

“He was my dad. My dad’s mother was Tana, who is the daughter of Sabre,” he answered.

Suddenly, I started getting a big headache and random memories started flooding into my head. I winched in pain and dropped to one knee which my hands on my head. A knife then appeared in front of my neck, followed by an arm that locked around my neck as well. It took me by surprise, and I tried to struggle to break free. I was then forced to kneel. I looked over and saw Revolver in the same situation by a woman. By the way the arm of the person who was grabbing me was, it seemed to be a male.

The woman spoke, “You have ten seconds to get away from here, grave robbers, before we- “

Revolver interrupted her as he broke free of her hold, launched up over her, and grabbed her in the same position. Revolver created a Water Dagger, knocked the woman’s knife out of her hand, and held it to her neck. Revolver looked at her and froze
for a minute. The woman had turned to him and got a look of shock on her face; her eyes widen. Revolver was surprised as well and let go of her as she took a step back.

“Revolver is that you?” She asked him, in a shocked tone.

“Hello, Claymore. It’s been some time,” he spoke, his voice going changing back to a serious face.

The man was still grabbing onto me. I tried to struggle to break free, but he had a firm hold on me. Revolver and Claymore turned to us.

Claymore ordered, “Aldus, you can let him go.”

  “Are you sure?” Aldus asked.

Revolver chimed in, “We aren’t here to attack you. I just wanted to pay my respects.”

Claymore nodded, “This is my brother, and this must be his friend.”

Aldus then let go of me. I stood up, put on my hood, and turned to see Aldus. He was about my height and was muscular. He had short dark hair and was wearing cargo shorts and a tight t-shirt. He was lighter skinned and had brown short hair. Examining Claymore, she was shorter than me and was slightly shorter than Revolver. She was wearing a pink shirt with sleeves that went past her elbows and short shorts. Both her and Aldus were wearing flip flops.

“So, after all these years you decided now to visit their graves?” she asked him, angerly.

“You’ve lost your touch in fighting,” Revolver replied.

She blinked to find an answer, “I stopped training years ago; Stop dodging the question!”

Revolver looked down and answered, “Fine. Yes, I’ve finally decided to visit their graves. It’s been long overdue. Last I was here, Vlayru was still alive.”

“You don’t deserve to even be here,” Aldus said.

He seemed mad that Revolver was here.

“Claymore, who is this guy?” Revolver asked Claymore.

Claymore made her way over to Aldus and held onto his arm. Aldus crossed his arms.

“Aldus is my husband, Revolver,” Claymore answered.

Revolver’s eyes widened for a moment.

Revolver then said, “So, that means you’re my brother in-law.”

  “Unfortunately,” Aldus remarked.

“Who’s your quiet friend, Revolver?” Claymore asked.

I quickly answered, “My code name is Eclipse.”

Revolver looked like he was about to say my name, but I didn’t want them to know who I really was. Revolver gave me a look then turned back to Claymore and Aldus. Claymore gave a look of disappointment.

“So, it is true. I heard you joined the assassins, but I didn’t want to believe it. You have to be if you are using code names,” she said, shaking her head, chuckling.

  ‘Wow, she’s smart,’ I thought.

“Who told you?” Revolver asked, curiously.

  “Vlaykre of course,” she answered.

Revolver sighed, “That sounds about right. Look, I was just wanting to do the right thing.”

Claymore was silent for a moment, got a serious look, then said, “The right thing is to apologize and come home. We miss you.”

Revolver got a look of displeasure, “No. I know my place and it isn’t here. Come on, Eclipse.”

He signaled for us to leave as he started to walk away. I started to follow.

“When you realize the truth, we’ll still be here, Revolver!” Claymore yelled.

I heard Revolver give a ‘humph’ and shake his head.

“We’re going back to the hotel,” he angerly commanded.

“So, that was your family?” I questioned, after deciding to even speak.

  He sighed and answered, “Yes.”

“Why don’t you go back? They seem like nice people. Aldus has issues, but I’m sure he could probably get over it,” I suggested.

Revolver stopped and turned to me. He looked mad.

“I’m never going back there. They are the reason why I am part of the H.N.A. You wouldn’t understand,” he said in an angry tone.

He turned and continued walking in front of me. I started to wonder if it was a trust issue as to why he wouldn’t talk to me about his past. We didn’t say anything the whole trip back to the hotel.

  Chapter 6 – A Sad Past

The next day, we woke up and started to get ready for the day. Revolver came out of the bathroom.

“Spex, I’m sorry for last night. Being up there brought bad vibes and memories. It made me agitated. I know you were just trying to help, and I appreciate it. It’s hard though when I’ve been living with all this hate against my family for years. I was hoping that going to the cemetery would help with it, but my sister came in and ruined it. As she’s always done,” He explained.

I replied, “It’s fine, Revolver. Does this mean you’re ready to talk about your past?”

Revolver sighed, “Can we go and enjoy the city a little bit first?”

I nodded in agreement, “Sure. Do you want to go to an arcade?”

Revolver looked confused, “Arcades are still a thing?”

“I think so. We can look for one at least, right? Get some food while we are out too,” I suggested.

“Yeah, alright let’s go,” Revolver agreed.

We put our regular clothes on and left to venture around the city. We both were wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers. I had a graphic t-shirt and Revolver just had a plain one. It was overcast weather, so we watched for rain and had our hooded jackets with us as well. After a while of searching, we came across an arcade. We stood outside of it. I started to get excited.

“Finally! Let’s go!” I exclaimed, excited.

Revolver chuckled, “You’re like a child.”

“What? You don’t like video games?” I asked.

“Not as much as you, I guess,” Revolver replied.

We walked in and started to play different games. I couldn’t get myself off this rail shooting game that had a cover system where you step on a peddle to get out of cover to shoot. It is called Shift Crisis and it was so much fun. We played other games as well and were in the arcade for over an hour. It was past noon and we got hungry. We left and got some food from a fast food restaurant next door and ate sea food. The Aquis Republic is the best place for seafood since it is next the ocean. The nation is known for their talented fishermen. We refilled our drinks to them to go, then headed towards the hotel. I took in the city on the way. I watching people walking by, people working, cars driving passed us.

It finally started to rain lightly, and we put our jacket hoods up. We started to walk over a bridge that went over a canal that emptied into a sewer some ways down. Revolver walked over to the guard railing and started to stare off in the distance.

“Revolver? You okay?” I asked, concerned.

Revolver was quiet for a moment then spoke, “My past is hard to talk about. Like really hard to talk about.”

I took a sip of my drink.

“So, it’s not about trust? I would tell you about my past if I could remember it,” I told him.

He took a sip of his drink.

Revolver explained, “I know you would, Spex. When I was a kid, I was always looked down on. My older sister, Claymore, was the star child in my family. She was better than me at everything and made the better decisions. She was a natural at using her water powers. I had to work harder to try to be almost as good as her. I could never catch up. “Why can’t you be more like your sister?” they would say. I hated it. When I was thirteen, I was so fed up with them that I ran away. I hid in the forest behind a tree and some bushes. I had a knife that I took from the kitchen that was going to be my weapon, in case I needed to fight. I wanted to continue to run away but I was fighting with myself. Part of me wanted to turn around, apologize, and talk with my family about my issues with them. I was there for a while before my dad found me. He tried to talk me into coming back. He tried to see my side and my feelings. He was apologizing as well. Then, something happened. He fell on top of me and I stabbed him in the chest. The knife hit his heart. I watched my dad die and it was all my fault. I didn’t k
now what to do, I continued to run away further from home.”

I didn’t know what to say. Revolver was looking away, but I could tell tears were rolling down his face. I couldn’t think of what it was like to lose someone, but I felt I knew for some reason.

Revolver continued, “After traveling for days, I started to get tired and weak. I hadn’t eaten since I ran away. I was too far gone in misery to even attempt to eat. I almost collapsed on the side of road when I was found by Lord Sharik. He promised to give me shelter in exchange for serving him as an assassin.”
