The Masters- RE- Revolver Page 7

by Matthew Weldon

Revolver disappeared into the bathroom as I pulled my hood over my eyes and began to sleep. I opened my eyes and saw that I was in a different place. I examined my surroundings and saw that I was on a roof. There were people standing up against the guardrail waiting for something. I started recognizing these people. It was Tana, Mabel, and Ansel. Tana was wearing a sleeveless tight mid drift top, a pauldron with a strap across her chest, arm guards, and a skirt that was short on one side and long on the other. She also had tight shorts underneath the skirt with a bow tied to the leg that was showing, boots, short hair, and there was a sword sheathed on her back.

I examined Mabel, who was wearing a tight red t-shirt, a bandana around his head, an arm guard, and had chest armor made with some metal and mesh material over the shirt. He also had on baggy pants, combat boots with metal plating, and shaggy, dark curly hair. Next to him was a giant sword. Ansel was wearing her purple and pink robes. I also saw a necklace and fingerless gloves. Her hair was long and blonde.

I looked at myself and saw that I was wearing a sleeveless hoodie made to act like a robe over a t-shirt. I saw that I also had sweatpants, white sneakers, elbow pads, and fingerless gloves.

Tana looked over the edge of the building and spoke, “They are here.”

We all looked over and saw a van drive into an alley way that went behind a building across the street. Tana took a step back and looked at us.

“Okay everyone, stick to the plan. Let’s go,” Tana ordered.

Mabel looked irritated. “Screw that! We take them now!”

Mabel transformed into fog and floated down. I looked at Tana in confusion.

“Damn it, Kaido!” she said angerly.

She turned and ran for a door and Ansel and I followed. I was confused as to why she called Mabel “Kaido”. We got into an elevator and took that down to the first floor.

“I swear, I’m going to kill him. I don’t even know why he is even part of the team anymore,” Tana said.

I was curious and asked, “Why do you say that?”

“Because of what he did,” Tana answered.

I was still confused, “What was it that he did? And Why are you calling in Kaido?”

Tana and Ansel looked at me funny.

“Enough questions. Focus on the mission,” Tana ordered in a serious tone.

As soon as the elevator doors opened, she sprinted out toward the main doors. I looked at Ansel who shook her head and sprinted after Tana. I sprinted after her as well. We caught up after crossing the street. We heard fighting from around the corner. We followed it and saw Kaido taking down Resurrect members by an open door into the facility. Tana grunted in anger and shook her head. We readied ourselves, Tana and I readied our swords, and joined Kaido. More vans drove up with more Resurrect members pouring out of them. We continued to take them out while inside the room. As we got down to just a few more left, a large robot was lifted out the back of one of the vans. The remaining members retreated into the vans.

“That doesn’t look good,” Ansel stated.

“No, it doesn’t,” I said in agreement.

Two guns came out of either side of the robot and started firing at us. We all ran in different directions to dodge the bullets, and Tana tried to use a Water Blast, but it had no effect. Ansel was hit and ducked behind cover. We did the same. Tana hid with Ansel and checked on her.

“Are you okay?” Tana asked Ansel.

Ansel nodded, “Yeah, I’ll be fine. I just got grazed on the hip.”

I questioned, “So element powers don’t work on it?”

“I guess so. Spex, you slow it down. Kaido and I will rush it afterwards.” She answered.

I nodded and stood out of hiding. I put my hands up to slow the robot down with my time powers, as Kaido and Tana ran towards it. As soon as they got close, I stopped using my powers, so they didn’t get slowed down. They both then stabbed the robot with their swords. The robot stopped firing and an explosion of aura burst out from it. The blast forced Tana and Kaido back through the air and knocked me and Ansel to the ground hard. I then blacked out. I opened my eyes and saw a familiar woman. I remembered that she was the same woman who was an onlooker when the coffee shop was being attacked. Resurrect members were loading up some sort of large device. Another member approached the woman.

“Lord Jessix, what should we do with them?” he asked her.

She looked at me with a smile, “If the robot is ready, let it kill them.”

As she exited the room, I blacked out again.

Chapter 8 – On the Side

I opened my eyes and jolted up. I looked around, panting, and saw I was back in the hotel. My heart was racing, and I felt sweaty for some reason. Revolver came out of the bathroom. He looked like he just got out of the shower. He looked worried.

“Are you doing okay, Spex?” he asked me, curiously.

I looked around again and realized it was vision or dream again. I sighed to calm down and rubbed my face.

  “Yeah, I’m fine,” I replied.

“Well I just got a message saying that we need to return to the base. Sharik is ending our vacation early. We’ll start heading there tomorrow,” Revolver explained

I was wondering if these were visions or my memories coming back to me. I couldn’t tell at all. Suddenly a purple aura appeared near the door that lead out of the room. It looked like a portal. A man in black robes appeared and stepped out of it. The portal then disappeared behind him.

“Vlaykre,” Revolver said in serious tone, like he wasn’t welcome.

I studied the man and faintly recognized him as the one that I was training in one of the memories or visions that I’ve been having.

“Revolver, it’s been some time. How have you been?” Vlaykre asked.

Revolver shook his head, “I was good until you showed up.”

“No need to get hostile now,” Vlaykre replied, putting his hands up slightly, smirking.

“I’ll decide that. What is it that you want?” Revolver questioned.

Vlaykre looked at me funny then back to Revolver, “I’m here to grab you for a little bit. I’m conducting an experiment and need you to help out.”

Revolver shook his head again, “No. I refuse to go to with you.”

  “For what reason?” Vlaykre questioned.

“For one, because I can’t trust you, and two, because you haven’t told me what the experiment is yet,” Revolver answered.

Vlaykre moved forward and put his hand on Revolver’s shoulder, his hand close to his neck, “Look I can’t explain here, but if you come with me to where-”

“I said no, Vlaykre! Find someone else to be your lacky and leave me alone!” Revolver interrupted in a loud, angry tone, smacking Vlaykre’s hand away.

Vlaykre stepped back and fell silent for a moment, looking down to the ground. He put his hands in his robe’s pockets. He looked kind of sad. His attention then turned to me again. I quietly looked back at him. My hood was still on so, I don’t think he could see my whole face.

“Who is you’re quiet friend, Revolver?” Vlaykre asked.

Revolver looked at me and sighed, “His name is Eclipse.”

Vlaykre looked curious, “Is that his code name or real name?”

“It’s my code name. I prefer to not use my real name with strangers,” I answered, looking away.

I saw Revolver give me a look, like he was annoyed. He looked back at Vlaykre. I moved my head to mostly see Vlaykre as well.

“Why do you choose to side with them? Your family misses you. At least what is left of them anyways. I also miss you around.” Vlaykre asked.

Revolver crossed his arms and looked away, not answering him. Vlaykre then sighed and turned around as the purple portal appeared in front of him again. He paused and turned his head toward Revolver.

“I’ll be taking my leave then. By the way, it wasn’t you’re fault, Revolver. After you disappeared, I searched the crime scene. There was more to the murder, but our leads went dead, so we
didn’t get any proof,” Vlaykre explained.

  Revolver was still not talking.

“It was nice meeting you, Eclipse,” Vlaykre said to me and disappeared into the portal.

The portal disappeared. I looked at Revolver who looked like he was trying hard to not lose it.

“Why, won’t you just help him?” I questioned.

“Why do you have to hide yourself when meeting new people?” he questioned back.

I got annoyed because he already knew the answer. But after I thought about it more, I guess I already knew the answer as to why he won’t help Vlaykre. I stood up and pulled my hood back off my head.

  I sighed, “Whatever, I’m taking a shower.”

I made my way to the bathroom and closed the door behind me. I bathed and got ready for bed. After exiting the bathroom, I saw Revolver already in his bed, laying down and staring at the ceiling. Without saying a word, I turned the lights off and laid in my bed. I started to think about what Vlaykre said before he left.

I turned to Revolver and asked, “Do you think Vlaykre is telling the truth?”

Revolver was silent for a moment before speaking, “I don’t know. I’ve never known Vlaykre to really lie. He is also really hard to read.”

We both fell asleep after that. I awoke the next morning to see Revolver still sleeping. I sat up and shook him awake. He turned to me half awake and confused.

“We should get going, Revolver,” I suggested to him.

He looked at the time on a digital clock on the wall and saw it was early morning.

He shook his head, “Yeah, you’re right.”

We got ready and packed our things. After checking out of the hotel, we made our way to the bus stop. It was time to return to the base. It was overcast outside which a chance of rain, which was a good enough excuse to pull our hoods up. We walked through the streets before we were stopped by a guy that looked younger than us. He had blonde hair and had green and black clothing on. His clothes were outlandish, as if he were from another country. He also seemed enlightened.

“Hey there, I was wondering if you knew where I could find a man named Sabre. It’s important that I find him,” he said to us.

Revolver and I looked at each other. We were both confused but Revolver also looked annoyed.

We turned back to him and Revolver answered, “Look I don’t know who you are, but I know of Sabre, and I can tell you he is dead.”

“My name is Zaddock, and you are mistaken about Sabre being dead,” Zaddock responded.

I got even more confused. I remember seeing Sabre’s grave. Revolver must have been thinking the same thing.

I then asked, “What do you mean that Sabre isn’t dead?”

Revolver added in an annoyed tone, “That is impossible.”

Zaddock smirked, “I guess you don’t know where he is. All I know is that he is lost, and I’ve been tasked to find him by an old friend of his that’s been helping me.”

  “An old friend?” Revolver questioned.

“Excuse me. I must be off,” Zaddock said, abruptly walking past us.

We watched as he kept walking away.

“That was weird,” I pointed out.

Revolver agreed, “You’re not wrong. Sabre has to be dead. He sacrificed himself to stop an evil villain.”

  “Who was it?” I questioned.

Revolver was silent for a moment because answering, “It’s just what I heard. let’s get going. We don’t want to miss the bus.”

  “Uh, sure,” I responded.

We continued walking and got to the bus stop. We stood by the stop, waiting for the next bus that was supposed to arrive soon. Two men walked past us, and I overheard their conversation.

“Can you believe all that destruction back there, Brect?” one of the them said.

The other replied back, “Yeah, Zak, Seriously. I’m glad no one got hurt from what happened.”

I wondered what they were talking about. I looked around and realized the intersection we were at yesterday was around the corner. I wanted to see what the aftermath looked like.

“Hey, the place we saw is around the corner there. Did you want to check it out?” I suggested.

Revolver looked around and thought of an answer, “I guess we could. There shouldn’t be a rush to get to base right away.”

I smirked, “Exactly, so let’s go.”

Revolver nodded, and we walked down the street and around the corner. We saw the intersection down a block, crowded with people and emergency vehicles, and walked toward it. When we got there were stopped by caution tape. We looked around saw all the destroyed cars, light posts, and signs. The tape was put up by the local authorities who were in the middle of the scene. They were in different areas investigating what happened. But it didn’t look like local authorities. They looked familiar, but I couldn’t tell.

  “The E.T.B.,” Revolver spoke.

I turned to him and questioned, “The what?”

“The Elemental Trooper Brigade. They specialize in elemental affairs. Back in the day they were a secret government department tasked to cover up anything involving the use of elemental powers as well as fight elementals who caused trouble. Now, they are a shell of their former selves. They have been reduced to investigating and reporting but not to take action. The military is supposed to take over, but the military’s response time is really slow. It’s sad really.” Revolver explained.

“How do you know it’s them?” I asked.

Revolver pointed to a woman in a suit standing and watching the other work.

“Well for multiple reasons, but that is director Sitra. She’s in charge of the E.T.B. currently,” He pointed out.

Someone walked up to Director Sitra. It was a man that wearing a sleeveless trench coat, and baggy pants tucked into his boots. I felt like I’ve seen him before. I heard them speak.

“Do we know what happened here exactly?” the man said.

The Director answered, “Not entirely, Miro. From what we have gathered so far, there were Shadow Dwellers and a man that fought two mystery men. The man appeared to have been using shadow powers.”

  “A shadow being,” Miro responded.

  “Exactly,” Sitra said.

A purple portal opened near them and Vlaykre stepped of it, “I think I have an idea as who did this.”

“I hope you do, Vlaykre,” Miro said, crossing his arms.

Vlaykre chuckled, “Good to see you too, Miro.”

They both shook each other’s hands. Memories flashed in my head. I was hiding behind a boulder and watched as a big fight was going on outside of Central City. There were a group of people fighting a man in a black coat and someone in black armor. Among them was Vlaykre and Miro. Tana was there too.

I shook my head and continued to listen in on the conversation.

“I’m glad you are here to help Vlaykre,” Sitra said to Vlaykre.

One of the analysts gave a piece of paper to director Sitra and she read it for a moment. She looked confused.

“What is it Sitra?” Vlaykre questioned.

Sitra answered in a confused tone, “We just found traces of time aura.”

I saw Vlaykre look shocked. We looked at each other worried. Miro looked at his hand and made a fist.

“I’m losing my powers. I need to go back to my world. I’ll be back when I can,” he told them.

“Alright then. See ‘ya buddy,” Vlaykre said to Miro.

Miro turned around and walked out of the crime scene.

“We need to go,” Revolver demanded.

He quickly turned and walked fast back to the station. I ran to catch up. The next bus got there as soon as we did. We boarded and found seats. Revolver was quietly looking out the window. I tried to figure out what was going through his head.

  “Something wrong?” I asked him.

“I think Vlaykre was actually being honest when he thought there was more to my father’s death,” Revolver answered.

  “Really? H
ow do you figure?” I wondered.

“I don’t know. Seeing Vlaykre back there made me rethink who Vlaykre is, which isn’t a bad guy. Why else would he want to help the E.T.B.?” Revolver explained.

“You looked at him as a bad guy?” I asked.

Revolver looked at me, “I mean, yeah, I guess.”

We continued the trip and talked more. I started to get the feeling Revolver was starting questioning being part of the assassins. That would mean that we were getting to be on the same page.
