Inevitably (RiffRaff Records Book 8) Page 22

by L. P. Maxa

  But I was wrong.

Nothing could possibly make me happier than the two girls dancing with me.

Our house in town was old. Built in the early 1900s, it had a legit white picket fence. There were columns and shutters, and wood floors that creaked whether you were walking on them or not. We had a baby swing in the oak tree out front and an SUV in the driveway. Our daughter would not be sneaking out to run wild on the Devil’s Share compound. Although we’d make sure her cousins would be an ever-present fixture in her life.

Ems and I had bought a building on the town square that was going to be our studio: half for her and half for me. She’d teach ballet classes and I’d keep creating content. We weren’t in any hurry though. We were both enjoying our time with our daughter.

Luca was six months old, and all indications were she’d start crawling any day. I loved her so damn much, and I was in love with her mother in a way that consumed me.

My two girls each had half of my heart.

I kissed the top of Emmie’s head while my hand rested on our baby’s back. We’d all been in our bed, and had fallen asleep while watching a movie. But Luca had woken up. She still got a little restless in the middle of the night. Since she’d already spent enough time keeping Ems up when she was pregnant, I made sure I was the one to dance my daughter back to sleep now that she was here.

No, my life had not turned out the way I’d thought it would. It’d turned out better than I could have ever imagined.

I didn’t need to travel to see the world.

Not when I was already holding it in my arms.
