Hope bloomed followed immediately by joy. All this time he had wasted being too nervous to make a move and she liked him too! In a split second he made the decision: he would never be so anxious that he talked himself out of something he knew would make him happy ever again.
With that thought he closed the space between them, slid his hands onto her face, and moved them to the back of her neck. Bending down, he kissed her. It was a warm and gentle kiss. Barely more than a pressing of lips. Then he moved away before the urge to do much more overtook him. But he stayed only inches from her face and smiled.
"Well I'd say that's confirmation. Or at least it's confirmation enough for me," Alice declared with a laugh. She moved back and slid her hand into one of his again and guided him back toward the dining room.
This time he followed her straight to the table. She put one glass in his open hand and took the other before clicking the two against each other.
"Here’s to the first of many, many dinners together." She grinned ear to ear.
In answer, he grinned as he brought the glass to his lips. "That is the best New Year's resolution I have heard in a very long time."
