He tipped his head back to look at the sky. This park was gorgeous, full of greenery and birds chirping, but there was nowhere for him like Colorado—the Rocky Mountains, the Flatirons, the trails and the peaks, the scrub brush, and the sandstone.
I’d like to, he replied cautiously. But not quite yet. There’s more stuff I need to do still. I don’t think I’m done with this game yet. He paused. Oh, fuck, I need a job. But yeah, I’d like to come back to Colorado. I might even come to Aspen once in a while.
Well, if you’re ever in the area… He could tell she was smiling.
I’ll take you out for…not sushi. Not in Aspen. Maybe a steak?
Actually, I grill a pretty mean steak.
You’ve got yourself a deal. I’ll bring the wine.
He smiled at Natasha and Mike. Grilled steaks. A job. Mountains. For the first time in his life, he wasn’t scared of what was coming. He didn’t see it as a string of disappointments simply waiting to unfold and was ready for this.
