Fall and Rise of the King (Kings Duet) Page 23

by Ruby Wolff

“You should be in bed resting, and it’s never too early.” Angel looks over his shoulder at me, and I smile.

“I needed to get out of the bedroom. I thought you were at the bar,” I say.

Angel’s been back and forth between home and the bar, but I don’t think he has slept much this week; that’s nothing new for him. The moment he gets home, he’s in the nursery with the girls. He never knows which one to hold since he said he feels like a bad dad giving one more time than the other. It always makes me laugh. He sits on the chair and rocks them both. It’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. He takes his top off, lays them on his chest, and tells them stories about him, Elijah, and Warren.

A couple of days ago, I cried listening to him tell them a story about Elijah and how he wished he was here to meet them.

I sit on the floor next to him and watch the girls in the Moses basket, fast asleep. I lean my head against his shoulder.

“Alice, I want to give you something,” he whispers, and I sit up when he shifts a little. “I asked you a question about six months ago, and you made me so happy when you said yes, but then I realised I never gave you a ring.” Angel stands up, takes a box out of his pocket, and gets down on one knee.

“Again, this might not be that romantic and, if I’m honest, I don’t even know what I should do, so this is the best I can do.” I start laughing because this is everything I could ever want it to be. Angel and me. “Alice, will you marry me?”

“Yes, yes, yes.” I sit up on my knees and give him a hug. Angel pulls me away and gives me one hard kiss that knocks me on my back.

He leans over me, his lips still on mine. Pulling up a little, he says, “I love you so fucking much.” He sits up and puts the ring on my finger. It’s perfect. The rose gold colour is beautiful. It’s everything I could ever wish for.

“Are you getting soft on me?” I start laughing when he leans down.

“Far from it, future Mrs Frost,” he says and kisses me again.

They say everything happens for a reason, and maybe it does. One thing I know for sure, is that Angel Frost was made for me.
