‘Brian, Marc.’ Christopher bought me back to the here and now. ‘Thank you for that frank and emotional recap. There was a lot more to this whole episode than even I had previously heard about. We all here have a lot to discuss, I think you would all agree.’ Everyone gathered silently nodded their agreement. He looked at us both again. ‘If you two wouldn’t mind waiting outside for a while?’ He motioned over to the table with tea and biscuits. ‘Please take a drink and some snacks with you.’ He smiled. Basically, what he meant in a polite way was ‘bugger off lads so we can talk about you both’. ‘We would like to have a chat amongst ourselves for a while.’ He motioned to the assembled and we got up to leave. Kev gave me an assuring wink as I left with a new cup of hot tea in one hand and 3 jammy dodgers in my other.

We both went back to the reception area and sat down. Camouflage was the first to speak. ‘That went quite well. At least it wasn’t a kangaroo court.’

‘Maybe the question and answer session will be later.’ I replied un-enthusiastically.

‘Maybe, but I think it went quite well in my opinion.’ He lent forward and picked up a magazine, I just closed my eyes and tilted my head back against the wall and waited. Talking about it to a group had been a huge release, I was just worried on how they would now view us now. Would they see us as a necessary evil to have gotten the cure to where it needed to be, or see us as worse than vermin, killing other humans in a time where we should all band together? What would our punishment be either way?

About forty-five minutes later, a random canteen worker popped their head around the door and nodded but didn’t say anything. We got up and he was gone, they obviously didn’t send Kev again as they wouldn’t want him giving anything away, so we quickly followed. He stopped part way up the corridor and just motioned what way for us to go as if we didn’t already know. We got to the door to the room just as the latch made a click noise as it closed, so someone had obviously been looking out for us returning. I stopped, took a deep breath, stretched my shoulders and rolled my neck and head building up the courage to reach for the handle and re-enter.

Camouflage patted me on the back. ‘Come on mate. Time to find out the reaction. May even get some more Jammy Dodgers.’ He said with a smile.
