The Sweetest Encounter Page 20

“She’s taking a break from the relationship,” I told him reluctantly. Feelings of guilt swept over me because if I hadn’t introduced her to Cole, none of this would be happening. I wanted to confide in Franco, but Beth swore me to secrecy. I hated hiding things from him. I knew Cole, and he was like a dog with a bone when he wanted something, and he wanted Beth.

“I see,” he said, eyes clouding up for a second, and then he sat across from me. “I’ll call him later. He must be hurt. He loves Beth. Damn.”

“They’ll work things out. Patrick just needs to cool off.” I reached over, squeezing his hand, knowing full well that it might not be the case.

“I hope so, baby.” Franco gave me a small smile. “Let’s eat before you pass out. It smells so good in here. You made lasagna?”

“Yeah.” I put some on his plate. “Wait until you see what I got for dessert.”

His green eyes darkened. “You, I want you for dessert,” he whispered, and reached out to stroke my hand.

I chuckled at his naughtiness. “You can have me too.” I smiled, digging into my food. My stomach was a little queasy, but I needed to eat something. “Suga, I have some news.”

“What?” he said, looking at me. “Baby, are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m okay now.” I tried to find the right words. “I have been feeling really tired lately and my appet—”

“Are you ill?” he cut in with a terrified look.

I didn’t want to alarm him and blurted out, “I’m pregnant!”

He looked shocked and green for a moment. “What? Oh my God. Baby?” He got out of his seat and kneeled in front of me. “When did you find out? How are you feeling? We’re going to be parents?”

I nodded, looking down at him with tears in my eyes. “I found out today,” I said, still feeling dazed. “It’s so crazy because I’m on birth control and didn’t think anything of it. I mean, we haven’t talked about children yet.”

He stood up and pulled me out of the chair into his arms, kissing and holding me close. “I’m the luckiest man alive. I have the most beautiful wife in the universe and now I’m going to be a father. It can’t get better than this. I love you.”

“I love you too,” I said, feeling happy. “I know it wasn’t planned. We have so much to do now.”

“Baby, don’t worry about anything,” Franco soothed me. “We have each other, and now I definitely have to cut back on my hours. I want to be here for you every step of the way. I am so fortunate to be able to do that. My dad and I had a talk before I proposed to you, and I’m going to take his advice. You and my baby come first before any career. I promise to be here for you.”

“Oh, Yankee,” I said, caressing his face. “You make me so happy, and I can’t wait to have this baby. I have a part of you growing inside of me. You’re my dream come true.” I closed my eyes as his arm tightened around me. Almost two years ago, I was heartbroken and never thought I would trust another man again, but meeting Franco brought back my faith in love. It made me realize love was something that you should never give up on. Giving and receiving love was what life was all about.

  About The Author

I was always a creative person but didn't discover my passion for writing until 14 years ago. I have been writing ever since but didn't pursue it as a career until seven years ago. The idea of writing a book came to me during a dream. I found my passion and haven't look back.

My writing is simple and straight to the point — no Purple Prose for me. I spend much of my time developing the characters. You must know your hero and heroine inside out for them to come to life. I want my readers to talk about my characters as if they were real people. I work hard to make them distinctive.

I used to read Harlequin Romance novels in my teens, and it's what inspired me to want to write in the romance genre. My brand or style is writing multi-cultural romance; it's what I relate to the most.
