  Chapter 12

Monday morning came quickly. On Sunday, Jason slept all day long like charging power for working this week. He heard the doorbell in front of the room at 8 o'clock. That would be Kate. Her being on time was so scared.

Jason opened the door for her, and Kate was shocked when she saw him.

“You shaved....” Kate blurted out unbelievably.

Jason smiled, causing anyone to be shocked made him proud. “I'm super handsome, right?”

Kate made an emotionless face at him. “Let’s have breakfast,” This answer made him feel a little bit upset.

“I think we should go to my universe, Kate,” Jason said while he was gobbling cereal with milk and yogurt topping in a big bowl.

“I agree. If Tom kept following those women at B11 before kidnap and kill. It means that he is now observing them in your universe as well,” Kate said. Today, she only ate rice congee mixed with shrimp in a small bowl. “The problem we force is ... you and I shouldn't be there,”

Jason looked at her face and stopped to send cereal into his mouth. That’s true, Jason came from there, which he now missing together with Kate, a mysterious woman who pretended to be Katherine Isaac, who died ten years ago. If they met someone they knew there, what would they do? Jason couldn’t tell anyone about other parallel universes or his job. He didn’t want to risk losing his memory.

“We have to disguise,” Jason said.

  “Disguise?” Kate frowned.

“Yes, you may change your hairstyle or make-up and then wear sunglasses and hat,” This reminded him of a spy movie. Working here was some kind of fun.

Kate looked at Jason's face and thought “.... We just careful not to meet your people, is that alright, Jess?” Kate said.

“Hi, Kate” a voice loud from their back, Kate quickly turned to look at two women who were walking towards them enthusiastically.

“Lily, Nora didn't see you for many days,” Kate said. But it seemed like the two girls haven’t interested in her, they were fixed eyes at Jason.

“Today you look like our Jason,” Lily Amber said with Jason who was gobbling cereal.

“Yes, today you look more handsome,” Nora Benedict said, smiled at him. They both were bright, joyful and beautiful women.

Jason tried to swallow the cereal for greeting them. It was a little bit stuck in his throat, but he forced it to go, “Hello, I'm Jason Smith,” He smiled at them.

“We have got the news about you since last week. And we saw you walked with Kate. At first, I thought you didn't look like Jason much until seeing you today without beard,” Lily said, excitedly fondled her long black hair.

They talked intimately for a while before separated. Both Lily and Nora looked very impressive. He liked to make funny jokes for them to laugh, and they also looked pretty and cute.

“They didn’t see me on the first day, did they?” Jason whispered to Kate anxiously after walked out of the cafeteria.

Kate made a thoughtful face for a while. “No, I think. That day I didn't have time to pay attention to anyone as well. I carried you out of Emma's lab. Went down the stairs through the office and went to the nursing room. But I'm sure I didn’t see Lily and Nora at their desks. Otherwise, they should come and help me dragged you,”

Dragged?.... That sounded pity. It would be great they didn't see him in that condition.

“Don't hit on them, Jess. You are not a person of B07. You may heartbroken,” Kate warned.

“Oh .... Is there someone jealous?” Jason said with bugging smiled.

Kate sighed, “Jess ... I'm not that monkey” She said in a flat voice but painful meaning. Jason could only made a sullen face at her. “I’ll go to pick up the necessary equipment for your work. You can wait for me in the office,”

Kate let Jason sat at her desk. He became familiar with the eyes that others stared at, he just ignored. They couldn’t do that for long.

He continued to think about the case. Now, the killer was still in his universe, watched on one of the victims, probably Jessie Lee. Because in order of founding the dead body, it was often to be her first.

Jessie Lee was a science teacher at high school. During the day, she would be safe because she was surrounded by many students and teachers. But after that, she might go home alone and that time might be a chance to be kidnapped.

“Do you think he could do the case?” Jason heard someone in the office said.

“Don’t know Kate said so,” another one answered. “Heard that he came from non-wormhole technology universe, what’s she thinking,”

“Look at him, he seems to be stupid than our Jason,” Then they laughed.

Jason looked at them with a sullen face. “Hey, are you talking about me?” he said impatiently and the two agents just laughed and walkaway. Then Kate came in. Never know what just happened.

“Hopefully, this time you won't envious on me, Jess,” Kate said after placed a small toolbox and tablet on the table. Jason was in a bad mood hurriedly grabbed it, opened it, checked it and tried it.

“When will we go to your universe?” Kate asked. “I think we have to make a plan. You are a missing policeman, and I am ... a disguised spy who pretended to be Katherine Isaac, the woman that died 10 years ago,”

Jason sighed, relieved all bad temper about what two agents had said. “Because of your disguise’s bad. Then we have to solve this problem. If you know how to mention about credible agency in non-wormhole technology universe, it would be smooth,” he said, still in a bad mood a bit.

Kate made a sullen face and picked up a glasses from her suit jacket to wear then made her hair in a bun. “How is this?”

Jason looked at her considered. There would be only in movies that wore glasses and no one recognized. But it’s better than did nothing because at least thick glasses which she wore reminded him to think about the auditor old maid who came to police station.

  “How should I disguise?”

Kate picked up another glasses and wore him, then stroked his messy hair become smoothness “How is it?” Kate said and picked up a smartphone to take a picture of Jason and let him take a look.

Jason looked at his picture carefully. “I look like a fool,” he said.

Kate laughed and rubbed his hair that tried to rise up back to be smooth again. “You look dignified, Jess,”

Jason looked at her face and sighed. “Kate, I really don't like the way you lie,” He said with a sullen face.

“What are you doing?” Emma greeted when she saw Jason and Kate walked into the lab in late morning.

Kate smiled widely “Disguises, Emma, we have to catch the killer at B13. We don't want anyone to recognize,” she answered.

Emma looked at them and sighed. “Oh,…who are you?” That sounded like a painful sarcasm.

“Well, ... the Sky Beach Hotel’s sand analyze result is the sand shaped like the sand on the beach at B11, Jess,” Kate quickly changed the subject. “And we found Bella West’s DNA on the restroom’s wall that full of bloodstains,”

That's good news, at least he knew for sure that the killer had killed them there before dropped the bodies at B13. Now, finding him would not be difficult because Jason was the owner of the area and knew Wenkroy city at B13 every inch.

“We are ready, Emma,” The voice of Julia rose from the door. She came with Todd, they were going to work in another parallel universe.

“…Good morning, Mr. Smith,” she said, greeted in a cold voice, looked at him from the corner of her eyes. She would be surprised to see him shaved his beard, combed hair and wore glasses.

“Hi, Julia,” Jason greeted with a widely smiled. But Julia seemed to not interest in him much, she wore sunglasses and went straight to stand on the circle platform for traveling. Todd followed and rushed wore his sunglasses.

Emma controlled the machine to start working and sent them to another universe quickly. Jason saw Todd was trying to wave to Kate, but too late.

You rush again, Emma,” Jason said.

Emma shrugged “Today is Monday, Mr. Smith, I'm busy, okay? Will you travel? I’ll jump the queue,”

Jason and Kate looked at each other. “Do we try to check it first? Is there something not right, we’ll go back,” Kate said and Jason agreed.

Jason and Kate appeared on the empty rooftop of the tallest building in the city. It's not bad, because no one would see them.

Then Jason took the sick bag out of his pocket as usual, Kate always pat his back. And after Jason finished his business, he was ready to work but also felt nauseated because of wormhole-sickness still attacked on him for a while.

“Follow you, Jess, or you want to eat something first. It’s almost lunchtime,” Kate said, changed from sunglasses to wear normal glasses. She liked her new look very much.

Jason led her off the rooftop. This building was a rental area for offices in the middle of the city. He could see the rooftop that found Jessie Lee from B11’s body.

From mapping of the place that found the bodies and kidnapping of the three women at B11. The positions were quite in bunches and not very far apart. If lined it through those spots then could found out it looked like a hexagon. Jason thought, if he made a map of founding body spot in B13, it would probably be the same.

“Your taste in a man is bad, Kate,” Jason said while eating a hamburger at a restaurant near the high building where they came out.

  “What?” Kate frowned.

Jason sighed. “Your boyfriend, Todd. He’s weak, like Julia little mama’s boy, but don't care about healing her feelings,” he said.

“Jess ... Todd and I, we are friends,” Kate insisted strongly.

“Going around with him like that? And Todd bring you orange juice regularly?” Jason said, narrowed his eyes on her.

“He’s in a friend zone, Jess. And don’t talk about him like that. After Jason died, he has done so much for Julia,” Kate said in a sharp voice.

Jason looked at her face, it would be a bit difficult to believe what she said, because she also seemed to like being with Todd. But she said so. Jason didn’t know what Todd was before, because he has only met him for a few days. It would be better not to criticize.

Jason continued ate a hamburger and this time he paid. He returned to take his money and police badge from his room before traveling. Eventually, he felt that he could take care of himself without relied on a woman's money.

“Look at this, I made a map where we found the bodies of three women in this universe. It looks like the pattern that happened at B11," Jason gave Kate a map of the city with spots where the police found the bodies of three women in his universe.

Kate looked at those spots and opened a file of B11 map with spots of the places the bodies were found and the spots of women were kidnapped. She watched it considered.

“I think it may be a picture of something, Jess,” she said.

"If we draw a line connect to the spots where the bodies were found that I circled it in red color. It will get a triangle upside down, and if I draw a line to connect between the spots where they were kidnapped, the yellow spots. Then, we’ll get another equilateral triangle intersects with the first triangle,” Kate gave the picture she made for Jason to take a look.

Jason looked at the picture considered, it was a hexagram with two equilateral triangles crossed. ‘Star of David’.

“In addition to, it’s being a symbol of some religions, in the past, ancient tribes in the Middle East and North Africa believed it was a symbol of magic, special powers, expelled or evil and still believe that it could be used for communicating between dimensions or the spirit world,” Kate said.

“Communicate between dimensions? Seriously?” Jason said frowning.

“In ancient times, no one knew about parallel universe. It was only a matter of faith, and today we have proved that traveling between parallel universes has nothing related to a hexagram. But it is still a symbol that has a long history and beliefs. The killer may use this symbol to communicate us that he travel across the parallel universes,” Said Kate.

Jason made a thoughtful face, a thick square frame of glasses made him looked like a young businessman who was thinking about something serious.

“He trying to tell everyone that he came from another parallel universe for killing others?” Jason asked. “I think he’s trying to show his power by controlling the scene and controlling those women. But my personal opinion is he’s immature. I mean his thought,” Jason shook his head.

Kate smiled at him. “Maybe yes. Sometimes people are obsessed with strange things too much, especially about showing power. More than that he caught a woman, the weaker sex he can mistreat. It may not be anything but the need for power. And I think it’s about love involve because the killer pulled out their hearts and keep it,”

Jason thought about it for a while, the hamburger made him started to feel sluggish from fullness. “He doesn't feel guilty about his own actions. The bodies of those women were place as being revile,”

“Today we should find the women he wanted and warn them. We have three weeks more before the kidnapping begins,” He continued, to warn them was an important thing that should hurry. At least they would be aware.

“Warn them? Like, tell them to be aware because there is a criminal from another parallel universe going to kidnap them?” Kate asked, frowning.

“No, Kate. Just warn them not to be alone and beware for a stranger or strange bright light,” Jason said fed up voice. If he said that, surely everyone thought he was insane.

Suddenly his eyes stopped and stared at something behind Kate seriously.

  “What’s wrong, Jess?”

Jason sat still and swallowed a big gulp. “Ted and Todd are walking to us,” he said before rushed to sit on the same side as Kate that turned their backs against them.

“If they see us, we’ll be in trouble. My shoes are not suitable for running,” Kate said and Jason bent down to take a look. Her stiletto heels would definitely be broken within a few meters if she ran at full speed.

“What’re they doing here? This place isn’t near the police station,” Kate asked.

“They may be trying to find me. My apartment’s around here,” Jason replied.

“Oh…you bring us to where there is a chance to meet your colleagues. And why we sit by the window like this?” Kate glared at him. Their table was near the footpath separated by only a large glass window of the restaurant.

“It just a mistake, Kate. I don't think they’re around here during this time and a hamburger here is delicious,” Jason replied, and Kate could only roll her eyes.

“I have a plan, we just pretend to be a passionate lover,” He squeezed across Kate to sit near the window. Then he held her and used his body to shield her from the eyes of people passing by including Ted and Todd, who were going pass by the window that they sat together.

“You won’t kiss me like the movie, right?” she protested with panic.

“Oh, that's a good idea,” Jason grinned.

“No,” Kate replied with an angry voice.

“Then, ask me for what, Kate. You have to hold me as well and then put the cheek together. It looks like people kissing,” Jason stared at her and Kate reluctantly held him, while Ted and Todd passing them, Ted turned to look at them just a second before passed by.

When he was sure that they were safe, Jason let Kate out of his arms. “I like this job,” he said, smiling satisfied. Her smell was so sweet.

“Jess, you can't take this kind of advantage from your partner,” Kate blushed. Not sure because of shyness or anger.

“Let's get out of here. We have to find Jessie Lee. And another one thing I’m afraid that they’ll come back here again,” Jason said, collecting things before hurriedly walked out of the restaurant.

  @@@@@@

“Someone want to kidnap me, detective?” Jessie Lee asked surprisingly. She recognized Jason because she had been visiting
him for reported the case of finding the body of her own.

Jason nodded as an answer. “Yes, you have to surrounded by people and don't be alone,”

“Why the criminal want to kidnap me? My family doesn’t have money for ransom. We aren’t a rich family,” Jessie said with confused.

“The police still don’t know the reason exactly why he wanted to kidnap you, but this has happened in other cities. They found the bodies of three women, and those women in other cities still live like you, Miss. Lee. But after finding the third corpse for about a month. The group of that women disappeared one by one I'm afraid it’s going to happen to you,” Jason said and Kate stared at him, frowning.

“If you feel someone is following you, report the police immediately. At least the police can protect you,” Jason insisted firmly and Jessie looked at him anxiously, but nodded.

“Could you tell me where those bodies came from? I mean my corpse,” Jessie asked.

Jason thoughtfully. “Sorry, we can’t tell you anything about this. We’re still investigating,” He replied with a serious face.

Then Jason and Kate left the high school where Jessie was work as a teacher there. They went to the next destination. “Why you said that? Other cities have this kind of case? I don't want to erase your memory, Jess,” Kate said sharply.

“Come on, Kate. I didn't mention about other parallel universes. I just gave her an example of how serious and what’s going on next if she’s not aware,” Jason argued.

“Then, if she searches for that news from other cities, she probably knows this case never happen as you said,” Kate argued back.

Jason was quiet as he realized that the news nowadays was easier to find than a convenience store in every corner of the street.

“Um ... that ....well,…just…” He was stunned trying to find an answer.

“.... but it's a good example, don’t you think so?" he said softly.

Kate sighed. “I will talk to Piper Mason and Bella West myself,” she said strongly.

Jason made a sullen face and got in the taxi, then they went to the stationery shop, where Piper Mason was working.
