With the sweetest of smiles, I take slow steps toward him. My eyes teasingly narrowed at his as I send my hand to his groin and squeeze, hard.
“Fuckkk. You insane?” scrapes out of his mouth.
I flutter my eyelashes at him, still smiling. “Told you not to call me babe.” I let go of his likely pest-infected junk and walk away.
Kevin keeps his hand on his fly, groaning, “Damn, Kayla.”
The guys around us snort in unison.
“Hey, Kev, cut that shit. I swear if she ends up chopping it off, I’m not taking your side,” Ricky, our former lead singer, says, shaking his head. Ricky is a famous rock star who left the band for a solo career a while ago, but whenever he’s around, he joins us for a few songs on stage.
I walk past Ricky, leave a kiss on his cheek, and head to place my water bottle next to the drums kit. Jax, our new lead, nods my way with a reputable grin while tuning his guitar.
“Hey Kayla, you still up for singing with me tonight?” Ricky asks.
“Sure.”
He nods. “How about ‘Don’t Speak’ toward the end?”
For a short beat, I let his words hang between us, trying hard to play it cool. It’s one of those songs that I can’t listen to without everything Justin messing with my head. For me, this song is the soundtrack of our last goodbye, Justin’s and mine, before he left for New York two years ago. The point when I came to realize we would never happen. It was also the monumental second time he broke my heart.
“Yeah, sure.” I shrug, considering replacing the water bottle by my drums with something stronger; a Tylenol and vodka cocktail should do it.
