Holly pushed him away from her and stood up, although she couldn't seem to stop herself from laughing. "I swear to God, you are ruining this already."

Sam grabbed her around the waist and pulled her down on to the ground with him, her body on top of his. "You've ruined me," he said, his voice husky as he nearly growled.

“Maybe…” Her voice dropped to a whisper. "We've ruined each other."

  Chapter Eighteen

"Christ, I'm a lucky man." Sam leaned against the doorframe to their bedroom and gazed at Holly as she finished putting on her earrings— a dangly, silver pair that she had loved the second she’d picked them up a few years ago at a local flea market.

She glanced back at him in the mirror's reflection, a blush creeping up her neck and cheeks at the way he was staring at her. He seemed to always have that effect on her. His eyes bore holes through her soul like he could see her naked even when she was fully clothed.

"Flirt," she teased. She picked up the brush and ran it through her hair slowly, watching the bristles separate each strand.

"I used to watch my mother do that," Sam mused, coming up behind her. He took the brush from her hands and ran it through her hair again for her. Sweeping her hair to the side, he kissed her neck. "Something about the way you do it, though…incredibly sexy."

Holly spun away from him and wagged a finger. "Uh uh. Don't get started with all that or we'll never leave. This date is happening."

He shot her a wicked grin, the corners of his lips turning up sharply. "Oh, it's happening. Come on. I'll be downstairs when you're ready."

She nodded as he retreated from the bedroom, chuckling as she noticed him having to readjust his pants to hide the conspicuous bulge that she'd caused. Holly finished up a few more swipes of powder on her cheeks and a whisper of mascara on her lashes before she was finally ready to go.

Grabbing a red sparkly clutch that matched her red high heels, she checked her appearance in the mirror one more time. She smoothed out her little, black cocktail dress and readjusted her bra straps to make sure they were hidden. Feeling confident, she headed out of the bedroom and down the stairs.

  "Sam, what…"

He was standing at the bottom of the stairs, which were lit with candles descending down the bottom half of the staircase. In his arms was a bouquet of roses bigger than she'd ever seen—hell, they were bigger than her head. Sitting on top of the tallest flower was Steve, ceremoniously perched and staring at her. With a quick hop, he flung himself across the gap and landed on the hem of her dress and began crawling his way up.

Holly laughed. "Steve! You little weirdo." She scooped him up in two hands and then put him back safely in his cage before returning to Sam and his bouquet of roses. "This is very romantic, Sam."

"Well, it is our first date," he replied. "Ready to go?"

She nodded, taking the flowers and placing them in a vase before following him out to the car. He opened the car door for her like the perfect gentleman, and, admittedly, her stomach was all butterflies.

"Where are we going?" she asked as he took them down some back roads she didn't recognize.

"You'll figure it out in a moment," he said, and he was right because once the trees cleared, she realized they were at the distillery. They had just approached from the back, a route she had never taken before.

She furrowed her brow. "We're going to work?"

He just smiled, a sly grin on his face that made her want to kiss him and pinch him all at the same time. They parked around back and he came around to let her out of the car.

"You have to put this on," he informed her, holding up a scarf in one hand.

"A scarf?" Seemed like an odd request.

  "Over your eyes," he clarified.

She held still while he secured the scarf around her head, tying it tightly enough so that she couldn't see out of it at all. He took her hand and began to guide her forward.

"Don't let me fall," she teased, holding on to his arm for dear life.

Sam laughed, then pretended to trip for a moment, pulling her down slightly. "Whoa!"

"Hey!" She adjusted her steps, trying to find her balance. "That's not funny—I'm blind here!"

"Only for two more seconds," he assured her, then positioned her to stand in front of him and began untying the knot. "Are you ready?"

"Yes," she replied, excited to see whatever he had put together for their date tonight. Clearly, he'd put some thought and effort in to this and that was what she really cared about, that was what really mattered to her. "Let's see!"

When she finally opened her eyes, she realized that they were standing in the rickyard, but instead of a pile of burning wood, there were two chairs and a table. The table was adorned with a white tablecloth and two long, thin, white candles in the center. The plate settings were set perfectly and the glasses of wine were already full and waiting to be tasted. Candles were set up on the ground everywhere, lighting up the entire place. It was magical—right out of a fairytale.

"Oh, Sam. This is so beautiful. It's like our own fancy picnic under the stars." She walked up to the table and smiled even wider when he pulled out a chair for her. Her country boy husband was certainly being every bit the gentleman tonight. "I can't believe you did all this."

He sat down across from her at the table. "I thought we could come to the distillery because it's where we first became…us. It's where we decided to get married and where we first kissed. It's where we first became more than Sam and Holly," he said. "We became Sam and Holly."

She put a hand to her chest. "That's really sweet. I remember that day very fondly."

"I remember that night even better," he teased, lifting one brow higher than the other.

Holly took a rather large sip—more of a gulp—of her wine. A thought hit her—a sudden fantasy and she couldn't get it out of her mind. Dare she say something? Another sip of wine. Then another.

"What are you thinking?" he asked, serving her another pour of wine after she'd finished her first. "You look like you have something on your mind."

"I'm thinking when I got dressed tonight, I forgot to put on any panties," she lied, knowing full well she hadn't forgotten and had done it on purpose. "And I'm thinking that the distillery store room right over there—" She pointed to a door to a large warehouse across from where they were seated. "The store room is a pretty discreet place to take a pre-dinner trip."

Sam immediately stood up and took her hand. "Well, what are you waiting for, beautiful?" Smacking her ass playfully, he chased her to the store room door.

Holly giggled and quickly opened the door, turning around and throwing her arms around his neck. Their lips locked at the same moment he slammed the door shut behind them and pulled her up against him. Sam let out a long, slow growl as his fingers raked down her side to the bottom hem of her dress. She knew he wasn't feeling any panty-lines and was probably going crazy over that thought.

"Fuck," he said with a throaty groan.

Taking several steps backward, he pushed them up against a large wooden barrel standing on its side. Grabbing her by the waist, he hoisted her up to sit on the top of it so she was level with him. He reached for his belt, unfastening it and sliding it out of his pants. Wrapping the belt around her wrists, he lifted her arms to secure them to a pipe above her head.

Holly could feel her nipples pressing hard against the fabric of her dress, aching to be freed. Thankfully, he seemed to know what she needed and pushed down the top of her dress and bra, exposing her. Next, he grabbed the hem of her dress and hiked it up to her waist, leaving her legs bare and her knees pinned together. She rubbed her thighs together to quench the ache between them.

"Absolutely gorgeous," he murmured, his eyes roaming over every inch of her. His tongue slid across his lower lip. "Tell me what you want, Holly."

  "What?"

He moved in closer, dragging his lips across the skin on her neck as he spoke. "You're in charge. Tell me what to do and I'll do it. You're mine. M
ake me yours."

She swallowed hard, trying to clear the fuzziness in her head at all the sensations she was already feeling. "Suck my nipples," she instructed.

He grinned like a child being given his favorite treat. "Yes, ma'am."

His tongue flickered across her breast slowly at first, then a puff of air. Then teeth as he plucked the tiny bud and pulled her into his mouth, sucking hard on the tip until she couldn't stop herself from grinding forward against him. The ache between her legs intensified and her desires shifted south.

"Lick me," she demanded, this time spreading her knees wide.

His gaze flickered downward, eyes hungry and dark. "Be more specific, darling…lick you where?"

He was torturing her now, and she knew it. Little did he know, she was ready.

"Get on your knees," she said, her voice stronger now. "And lick my pussy until I come on your face."

Sam's expression lifted in surprise, then a wicked smile stole across his face. "That's my girl." He did exactly what she said and got on his knees in front of her. Pushing her knees apart, he positioned himself at her core and slid his tongue across her. She nearly bounded off the barrel at the first lick, the shock waves of it slamming through her like fire and ice all in one delicious blow. When he returned for seconds, she was ready and aching for more, pushing herself against his lips, seeking relief only his tongue could provide.

With a firm grip, Sam grabbed her ass in both hands and pulled her tight against him. He devoured every inch of her until she racketing up the edge of the cliff, ready to explode over the side. When she finally did, she saw stars and fireworks and everything that sparkled when one's entire body is exploding under the manipulations of the perfect lips.

Standing, Sam grabbed the belt and unlooped it, untying her from the pipe that was holding her pinned. He lifted her off the top of the barrel and placed her on her feet, though she had to grab his shoulders because she could barely stand on her own.

"Sam…" She wanted to say that was amazing, incredible, that she loved him and wanted to be with him forever, but all the thoughts in her head were getting jumbled. "That was…"

"We're not done yet, babe," he said, pushing her back against the wine barrel. "Turn around."

With a quick twirl, he spun her around so that she was facing the barrel. He placed a hand on her back and bent her over the barrel, exposing her bare ass to him since her dress was still hiked up around her waist. She immediately thought of her scars, worried they’d be exposed but her dress covered her entire back.

His foot pushed her feet apart, spreading her legs, and she heard him pulling down his zipper. Excitement coursed through her as she thought of him burying himself inside of her.

"I don't think I can be gentle, Holly," he warned. "Tell me now if you want to stop."

She shook her head. "Please, Sam. I need you now."

He lined himself up at her entrance. Reaching around to the front of her body, he rubbed her clit in small circles and she moaned, pushing back against him.

"God, I love it when you moan," he said. "You're so fucking sexy."

With that, he slammed into her in one long, quick push, driving every inch deep into her throbbing warmth.

"Ah!" She gasped at the sudden intrusion, trying to adjust to his impressive size. He didn't break his promise—he wasn't gentle. Sam slammed in to her repeatedly with long, hard thrusts that smashed her in to the wooden barrel beneath her. She could feel her knees slamming against the wood and her feet almost lifting off the ground at the force, but she didn't care one bit. The feeling was incredible, being so filled, so loved, so overwhelmed by him—by her husband. She wanted nothing more.

With a loud clap, his hand came down hard on her bare ass, spanking her. "Fuck. I love this ass."

"It's yours," she said between gasps, daring him to touch her there. She wiggled her ass against him, grinding hard. "Everything is yours."

He groaned again, his hand returning to her cheek. He smoothed his palm against her skin and then slid the tip of a wet finger into her most sacred spot.

"Oh!" She clenched around him, wanting every bit of it and fighting it at the same time.

He pressed in farther, still thrusting inside of her at the same time. With that, she felt herself rolling toward the edge again. Shudders of ecstasy slammed through her and she shook against him.

"Come on me, Holly," he growled, pumping harder and crushing her against the wooden barrel as he slammed into her a few final times. "Fuck, yes."

When he came, it was powerful. A rush of warmth and heat firing inside her that made her ache and come all over again. His hand snaked around her body and slid across her clit, rubbing her as they both came down off their incredible highs. Each swipe sent another shockwave through her body and she jolted against him.

Finally, they both stood and adjusted their clothing, redressing. Smiling, she cleared her throat. "Well, that was unexpected."

"Was it?" he asked, one brow lifted. "I think you planned exactly that."

She nibbled on the edge of her lip. "I also planned on dinner and now I've worked up quite the appetite, so let's eat."

"After all that, you can literally have whatever you want," Sam said. "Want a kidney? Take mine. Need some liver? I'm pretty sure there's still some of mine left that works."

Holly laughed and swatted at his chest. "What the hell are you talking about?"

He grabbed her around the waist and pulled her into his side then planted a big kiss on her lips. "Isn't it obvious? I freaking adore you, woman."

"Because of the sex?" she teased, afraid that that was going to be the answer. As much as she wanted to hear those words from him, she wanted them to be real. Was he going to say it? Did he love her?

He shook his head. "Because of your boldness. Your confidence. Your bravery and willingness to do absolutely wild things. The way you have my back no matter what." He turned very serious for a moment, making sure that she was looking him in the eyes. "I really like you, Holly Glen…like like, like you"

Holly felt like her heart was beating a million miles an hour in her chest. "Sam…"

He held up a hand. "You don't have to say anything back. That's not why I'm saying it. I just needed you to know. I'm…I'm getting there."

She grabbed his hand and pushed it down. "I've been there since high school, you dummy."

  "What?" His eyes widened.

She nodded, feeling the flush of embarrassment already hitting her cheeks. "I've literally had a crush on you for over a decade."

Sam wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her in for a giant bear hug. He kissed her, hard. Then squeezed her even tighter against him. "Don't ever wait so long to tell me again," he whispered, his lips brushing against her ear.

  Chapter Nineteen

"He picked me up and everything," Holly confirmed to Amelia as they pulled out their chairs at the coffee shop and sat down. "I mean, technically, I did move all my things in already so I do live with him now. But, he still picked me up from the house. It's the gesture that matters."

"That's adorable," Amelia confirmed, stars in her eyes. "I knew you two would make the perfect couple. I was just waiting for you both to see it."

"Both?" Holly huffed. "I've been crushing on this guy for half my lifetime. He's the one who's late to the party."

"Oh my God, don't look." Amelia's voice suddenly went low and she leaned forward into the table. "Isn't that Sam's ex?"

Holly's gaze immediately flickered to the front door of the coffee shop that had just opened and allowed entry to a young woman who was now making her way up to the counter. Sure enough, it was his brother's new wife—and Sam's ex-girlfriend, Jane. Holly immediately recognized her from the wedding and from high school, even though she'd definitely aged a lot since their younger years together.

Still, the woman was drop dead gorgeous, and it did nothing for Holly's self-esteem. Thick, straight brown hair halfway down in back in a massive curtain of hair, Jane
looked like a walking shampoo commercial and flaunted every second of it as she casually flipped her hair over her shoulder. As she was doing so, she caught a glimpse of Holly and paused.

"Shit," Holly whispered under her breath. "She sees me."

  Amelia's eyes widened. "Run."

"We can't run," Holly reminded her friend that they weren't in middle school and that was absolutely ridiculous. But when Jane turned on her stick-thin high heels and began walking toward her, Holly immediately regretted not listening to her friend.

"Holly, right?" Jane asked as she approached like a panther stalking her prey, smiling wide as if she already knew what she was having for dinner tonight.

Holly pretended to be fascinated with her coffee cup and not have noticed her until just that moment. "Oh…oh, hi! Yes, I'm Holly. You're Jane, right?"

  Why am I so awkward?

She wanted to curl up and die right underneath the table, but there was probably gum stuck to it and she didn't think she wanted that to be the last thing she saw before she died.

"Right. You were at my wedding."

"I was," Holly confirmed, as if she was just remembering it now. "What a gorgeous wedding. Did you enjoy it?"

"Grady and I had the most blessed day I could imagine. It's amazing what happens when you find your true love and can celebrate that real love with everyone you love so dearly," she replied in a dreamy tone, a hand to her chest.

Holly wasn't entirely sure where, but she was pretty sure there was an insult directed toward her somewhere in there. Woman-speak is complicated.

"I can only imagine," Holly replied.

"That's right," Jane said. "You're getting married soon, too. Right?"

"Uh…" Holly cleared her throat as Amelia kicked her under the table. She lifted her hand and wiggled her fingers, showing off the engagement ring Sam had given her. "I am, yes."

Jane nodded, her brows pinching together in a pitying look. "Well, that's okay. Everyone has to settle eventually."

Okay, that one was definitely an insult.
