Saved By a Beast: A Phoenix Pack Urban Paranormal Page 3

Bliss couldn’t get enough of his scent. It was like nothing she ever smelled before. The vision of that wolf came to her again, but this time, the animal was rolling around on the ground as if someone was giving her a good scratch.

“What does this mean?” Bliss heard Rita speak. She came next to the man, and Bliss felt the urge to attack. Her gums started to ache as if she was growing new teeth. She turned and snapped her teeth at Rita.

“MINE!” She growled at Rita. Rita growled back at her, and that was enough to snap Bliss out of whatever daze she was in. She blinked and slowly turned to look at the man who’s face she was just caressing. She still couldn’t see clearly, but she just knew he was looking at her.

“I am so sorry,” she said. “I don’t even know--this is so embarrassing.” She pushed herself from his arms and stumbled all the way back to the bed. She flopped down in it. She didn’t know what urged her to act that way, but there was just this other conscience inside her that made her act like that. It was so strange, but there was no talking herself out of it.

“You growled at me,” Bliss mumbled to Rita.

“You growled first,” Rita replied. “And I didn’t even touch him.” Bliss lowered her head. She couldn’t even look up at him even though she couldn’t see, but she still smelled him, and he didn’t back away from her. He came over to the bed and sat down at the edge near her.

“My name is Kellan,” he greeted.

“Bliss,” she mumbled. Kellan reached under her chin and brought her head up.

“Speak so I can hear you,” he said firmly. Rita groaned next to him.

And you don’t want to be an alpha, Rita said into his mind.

Shut up. He rolled his eyes.

“Why? I haven’t said anything,” Bliss said looking offended. Kellan looked at her.

  “Why, what?” Kellan asked.

“You told me to shut up!” Kellan’s brows further furrowed. Surely if she heard what Rita said then she would be questioning what the hell she meant by alpha, but all she heard was Kellan saying shut up. His heart began to pump inside his chest hard.

You can hear me? Kellan asked her in her mind.

“Of course, I can hear you. You’re talking, right? And I’m not deaf.”

Right. Kellan cleared his throat. He knew the odds of her being able to hear him before her senses began to come through was nonexistent. It didn’t happen. Unless, of course, your mate was talking with you.

“I didn’t hear you when you said your name,” Kellan said to her.

“Bliss,” she said confidently this time. He smiled at her. She was so cute. Her pouty lips begged him to kiss them.

“Guess someone was blissful when they named you, huh?” he asked.

“Exactly.” She smiled. He felt himself being drawn into her. He wished so bad her eyes weren’t cloudy. He wanted to see what color they’d be. They would be perfect, he just knew it, and just like he got visions of his own wolf, Kellan saw a vision of her wolf. The dusting of hazelnut colored wolf was rolling around happy to have him near her. He saw her wolf, and his wolf immediately squealed and fell over, rolling around as if it was the happiest day in his life.

“Beautiful,” Kellan whispered, speaking of both her and her wolf. He couldn’t wait until she shifted.

“Thank you.” She blushed. Her almond colored skin glowed. That mango smell that was pouring off her when he found her was so fresh in his nose, but she smelled more tropical now. Again, his canines dropped. He allowed them to because she couldn’t see him.

“Do you two need to be alone?” Rita asked.

“Yeah, I wanna talk to her.” Kellan grunted. Rita huffed and turned to leave the room. Kellan didn’t take his eyes off Bliss. He didn’t even know how to begin telling her what she was now--all because of him. When the door closed and Rita was gone, Bliss got closer to him.

“I’m usually not like this,” she admitted. “But I guess being near death makes you do things you would never do.”

“What happened to you?” he asked. She instantly looked away. Clearly, she wasn’t going to answer.

“As soon as my vision clears, I have to get out of here. I can’t be around for too long. I don’t want to be found.”

  “By who?”

“I don’t wanna talk about it. As long as I’m here and I’m alive, then I just want to move on.”

“Things are different now, Bliss, so moving on won’t be so simple.”

“So, what? Do I have to repay you for healing me?” She leaned into him, inhaling his scent. “What you want from me? A fuck?” Again, Bliss didn’t know where that came from. She couldn’t stop the words from trickling out of her mouth, and she didn’t even know how the man looked! This was all off pure scent. Damn, he smelled so good. She just kept leaning forward until she felt his lips. They were soft for a man’s. She pecked at his lips until she felt something hard protruding from them. She used her tongue and licked what felt like his teeth.

“Be careful.” He groaned. She didn’t heed his message until she drew her tongue under one and nicked her tongue. But before she could suck her own bleeding tongue, his lips reached out and sucked it for her. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head because the minute he finished sucking her tongue, he was sucking her bottom lip, and nipping it lightly with his sharp teeth. It didn’t even cross Bliss’ mind to be worried about why he had such sharp teeth in the first place. She was just overcome with arousal at his scent. When she closed her eyes, a vision of a black wolf with blue eyes rolling around happily came to her mind. As if sensing she was seeing him, he stopped rolling and looked directly at her, his tongue out, and his tail wagging happily.

“Mine,” Bliss whispered again. Kellan pulled away from her mouth when she said those words again.

“Mine,” Kellan whispered back to her. They both looked at each other, her with her cloudy eyes and him with the eyes of his wolf.

“Why do I keep seeing wolves?” she asked. “I just saw a black one with blue eyes, and the tip of his tail was brown.” No one was supposed to know what your wolf looked like unless you shifted. For them to see each other’s wolves in their minds was a thing only mates shared. Because if physically they were injured, they would be able to reach into each other’s minds and alert their wolves of their predicament, and when injured, a mate was the only one a wolf would trust, so no matter what Kellan denied right now, this woman in front of him that declared him as hers and didn’t even know any better was the woman that was meant for him. A newly turned wolf just had instincts, and that’s what Bliss was working on right now.

“In due time,” Kellan said. Kellan was stolen away from his mate by a sour smell. He leaned away from her abruptly. A growl erupted from his throat when he realized that his mate was in possible danger.

“What’s the matter?” Bliss asked, fearful.

“I have to go do something. You need to stay here. I’m sending Rita back in. When she tells you to do something, please just listen to her. Understood?” A weird vibe bounced off him, and Bliss found herself unable to disobey him.

“Understood,” she said lowering her head. Kellan immediately raised her chin up.

“Don’t do that when I speak to you,” he said. “If the universe made you for me, Bliss, then the last thing I know you are, is submissive.” He kissed her on the forehead before he was stomping out of the room.

Rita flew at him from where she was sitting in the living room. She could smell exactly what Kellan could.

“It’s Maverick,” she said shakily. “He came here for me.”

“Relax. I won’t let him take you.”

“But he’s my alpha! If he calls for me, I’ll have no choice!”

“Rita, stop. Just calm down. I won’t let him take you. Just please, I need you to go in the room and stay with Bliss. Mask your scent and try and teach her how to mask hers.”

  “But she’s newly turned, Kell!”

“Just please try!” he exclaimed. “No other wolf
needs to sniff my mate, especially not Maverick.” Rita gasped.

“It makes sense. Especially since she can smell you.”

“Go, Rita. If I tell you to run in your mind, then you need to do whatever you can and get her and yourself to my special spot, okay?” Rita nodded and rushed off, going to the back of the cabin to the bedroom. Kellan walked towards his front door and tried to remain as calm as possible, because if Maverick sniffed his mate and pushed it in Kellan’s face, Kellan was bound to go feral, especially since Kellan didn’t know how Maverick and Bliss were connected in the first place.

  Chapter Five

Maverick stood in front of Kellan’s cabin for no more than two minutes before the man came outside. He stood at his front door, relaxed as if he was just taking in the late afternoon breeze.

“You have my wolf inside there,” Maverick said, getting to the point.

“Do I?” Kellan asked shrugging his shoulders. Maverick feared Kellan, but it wasn’t because of the size of wolf or his lineage. He just had something Maverick didn’t. Maverick had to kill for his pack, but Kellan wouldn’t have to do something like that to get wolves to follow him, and if Kellan ever realized that, then Maverick’s place as alpha would be challenged.

“Cut the crap. Tell her to come out right now, before I force her to come out.”

“For what? So you can drag her back to be your little concubine?”

“You know nothing about my pack, omega,” ..” Maverick snapped. “So, unless you want my wolves to rip you apart, then bring my wolf out here.”

“Wolves? But where are they?” Kellan asked. He searched and sniffed. Maverick had come alone. Maverick only grit his teeth.

  “I just want my wolf.”

“She’s not here. You’re so busy flapping your jaws, you don’t stop to use your damn senses. You can smell she’s not here, can’t you?”

“You don’t think I know she can mask her scent?”

“So then try and come in here and search for her.” Kellan challenged. He stood in the doorway of his cabin and flicked his claws out. Where his mate was concerned, Kellan could outright kill any man that tried to enter his home. Maverick took a deep inhale.

“Rita may not be here, but someone else is,” he said. “Found some new ass, ? What kind of female wants a wolf who was kicked out of his pack?” Kellan knew then that it was too hard for Bliss to mask her scent. He should have expected that. She was just too new. Kellan let his canines drop. There was something about another man sniffing at his mate that made him furious. Maverick saw he was about to attack and immediately backed off.

“Tell Rita she has three days. Either she comes home, or I send my wolves to drag her back.”

“We both know your wolves can’t drag her anywhere.”

“Fine then. I’ll come back for her myself. This time, I’ll tie her up and fuck her right in front of you. Just like I did to your mother.” Kellan’s wolf pushed to the front of his conscience, and Kellan let the animal take over. He shifted and jumped off his porch, pouncing on Maverick all in one motion. His claws dug into Maverick’s throat as he growled down at him. He was so fast, Maverick didn’t have a chance to shift himself. Kellan felt Maverick’s muscles begin to shift under him.

Shift, and I’ll claw your throat out and eat it, Kellan threatened. Maverick went still under him, but his red eyes glowed at Kellan.

If you value your pack, Maverick, you won’t ever come around me again, and you most certainly will not mention my mother out of your disgusting mouth again either. We both know I’m choosing NOT to kill you, but if you challenge me again, forcing women to have your pups is going to be the least of your problems. Get off my property.

Kellan snarled down Maverick’s face before he let the man get up. Maverick shook his head and looked at the wolf. The practice of restraint made it look as if Kellan was weak, but Maverick knew otherwise, and if Kellan ever felt that he had what it took to be an alpha, Maverick would have to face the biggest challenge in his life, but as long as Kellan stayed unmated, he wasn’t going to try and be an alpha. A, and that’s where Maverick was having his problem, because if he didn’t get a proper mate and pups soon, his own pack was going to start falling apart.

“I’ll see you soon for my wolf,” Maverick said to him. With that, he turned and left the omega to his miserable life.

Kellan watched Maverick walk away, fighting his wolf not to attack the man from behind. Once Maverick was out of sight, Kellan turned and walked back into his home, still in his wolf form. There was a deep-rooted feeling inside him that told him that this wasn’t the last he was going to have to deal with Maverick, and things were going to get much worse.

Inside, he slowly shifted back. He grabbed a pair of jeans and went back to the bedroom. Bliss was laying on the bed in a fetal position slowly falling asleep while Rita caressed her wild curly mane.

“Sorry, Kell. I was trying too hard to get her to mask her scent. She’s too drained of energy.”

“It’s alright. I know it’s too hard to ask that out of the both of you.”

“What happened out there?” Rita asked. Bliss had fallen into a deep sleep. Rita got up and walked over to Kellan, who did not look like himself. Something was bothering him.

“Has he-has he raped you, Rita?” he finally asked her. Rita held her head down and shook it front side to side.

“No. I um-I got away. That’s when I came to you.”

“Why didn’t you tell me that’s what he was trying to do to you?”

“Because of what happened with your mom, Kell. I don’t want to keep pushing that on you, and I got away; I was the fortunate one.”

“I don’t think we’ll see him for a while,” Kellan said. “But you were right, you’re his wolf, and if he calls you, you won’t be able to resist going to him.”

“The only thing that can be done, Kell, is for Maverick to die, or for my wolf to find allegiance in another alpha.”

“And you have a mate now.” Rita added. “It can work.” Kellan scoffed.

“I still have to tell her she’s a damn shifter. Let’s see how that goes first.”

  ********

Maverick walked to the section of woods where his pack lived. The moment he walked on the premises, all the wolves scurried away, retreating to their cabins. The land was great, and it was sought after by many wolves, but Maverick was the only one strong enough to beat out the last alpha and take over, but despite the fact that he was able to beat out the last alpha, Maverick saw the side eye’s he got from his wolves. They were all waiting for him to produce an offspring because that meant he would have someone to continue his legacy. Without an offspring, Maverick felt that at any time, someone was going to be on the move to attack him, so they could take over.

“Find me a she-wolf!” Maverick shouted at his first in command. The beta paused as if he didn’t want to listen to the command Maverick made. Unlike the alpha, Maverick couldn’t take the position of the first in command beta away, so Maverick was stuck with the beta that his predecessor had.

“What are you waiting for?” Maverick asked him.

“We had a pack meeting, Maverick,” he said. Maverick felt his eyes begin to glow.

“There is no such thing as a pack meeting without the alpha, Jayce, so what? Are you disobeying me?” Maverick stood in the man’s face, but Jayce didn’t back down. He stood with his arms behind his back and didn’t flinch.

“I’m your beta in command, Maverick, which means when you’re not around to hear the concerns of your pack, then that’s my job.” Jayce inhaled and smelled Kellan on his alpha. Jayce only wished that Kellan had actually taken the fucktard out. Jayce could beat Maverick in a challenge, but it wasn’t his place to do so. Growing up, it was always Kellan who was supposed to be alpha. They were inseparable until the night both Kellan’s parents were killed.

“So, what the fuck was this pack meeting about?”

“The she-wolves don’t want to be subjected to yo
ur carnal needs to have pups. The act of forcing them to be with you is unbecoming of an alpha.” Maverick crossed his arms. This was exactly why he was searching to have a pup with a human. She-wolves fought too much.

“As long as they are in my pack, Jayce, they follow my rules. Rita done run off, and if you ever want to have pups, Jayce, you’d stay out of my damn way, because even if you have a mate, you can’t have your own pups until your alpha couple has them first, so move out of my way. I’m going to see Kyra. She should have my pups in her. I bred her last week.” Jayce simply shook his head and walked off before he tore the head off his alpha. It was all true. No one in the pack would be able to have pups before the alpha, but seeing as he couldn’t have any, Jayce felt it was the perfect time to take the wolf out before he got his bloodline deep into their pack and couldn’t be removed. Kellan had left, but he didn’t realize how deeply rooted he was in being an alpha. It was just in his blood, and naturally, if you were an alpha, your pack never wanted to go against you, but Maverick was just different. He was an outsider who just happened to luck out, and now he was terrorizing the pack.

As beta in command, Jayce didn’t want to leave the pack unprotected with Maverick, but he didn’t know how much he could take being under the control of a monster like him. Jayce watched as Maverick walked through their compound.

“Kyra!” he roared. The female he’d chosen to be his mate scurried out of her cabin. She came to him with her head bowed as if she couldn’t look at him. He grabbed her by the back of the neck and led her back towards his cave. He noticed how all the males looked at him, but none of them approached to stop him.

“Why isn’t your stomach big with my pups?” He gritted in her ear.

“Mav…I told you I wasn’t in heat,” she said quickly. Angry, Maverick back handed her. This was exactly why he had to run to a human female like Bliss, because he couldn’t deal with a she-wolf and her fucking heat cycle. Kyra fell to the ground, crying out. She immediately shifted, her wolf coming to her rescue against the larger man, but Maverick wasn’t going to stop there. If her wolf wanted to fight, then he would give her a fight. Maverick shifted, his large wolf lurking over the she-wolf, but she snarled and snapped her jaws. Maverick howled and snapped his jaws around her neck. He flung her back and forth until he finally launched her across the woods. She whimpered and was slow to get up, but she did. That angered Maverick even more. It was like she was trying to prove he was weak, and he wasn’t.
