“You know I outrank you,” I replied

  “Like that has ever mattered.”

  Chapter 65 Jupiter

“I still can’t believe you’re here,” I said to my brother having dragged him to the dancefloor.

After the surprise of my brother being here, he dropped another bomb on me. He was married with a daughter. Matilda – Tilly for short. Tilly is the most adorable little kid in existence, blonde curls, dimples and freckles. I fell in love the instant I saw her. Davan introduced me as Aunty Jupiter, and my heart swelled with love, but Tilly hid behind Davan’s leg, sneaking peeks at me while clinging to his pants.

“Hey Baby Bug, don’t hide. Say hello to your Aunty,” Davan encouraged.

“You call her Baby Bug,” I asked tears welling in my eyes again.

“She reminds me so much of you Little Bug how could I not.”

“Matilda are you going to say hello?” Davan asked.

“It’s fine Dav,” I said giving her a small wave. “Matilda can say hello when she’s ready.”

“Tilly this is your Uncle Memphis,” Davan said.

Memphis won the kid over straight away. All he had to do was smirk at her and held his hand out for a low-five. Tilly reach out with her little hand and gently tapped his.

“Come on kid, you can do better than that,” he encouraged once again holding his hand out to Tilly. She giggled and slapped her hand against his with all her tiny strength. “That’s better,” he praised winking at her.

Tilly squealed and giggled and climbed Memphis like a tree until she had her arms wrapped around his neck petting his beard. What can I say? The girl has got taste. With the help of Memphis, Tilly soon warmed up to me, but Memphis is the clear favourite.

“I’m here Jupiter, and I mean it when I say I’m staying and that I’m out. I will be honourably discharged in a month. EJ, and I are looking for somewhere to move around here, so we can be close to family. Tilly has moved around so much in her little life, we want to give her some stability.”

  Be still my beating ovaries!

I looked at Memphis who had a sleeping Tilly in his arms. The sight of Memphis holding Tilly made me determined to try everything manmade and otherwise to give him as many babies as I could.

“Dav, what’s wrong with Emmaline?” I asked looking at the slender woman sitting with Memphis.

“What makes you think there’s anything wrong with her?”

“Davan, I can pick a wig a mile away – even a very expensive one. I’m a hairdresser,” I supplied when he raised a questioning eyebrow. “There is also the pallor of her skin, and she’s exhausted. She’s only had one dance which you practically held her up for, otherwise she has been sitting. She only had a few mouthfuls of rice for dinner, and she is drinking watered down ginger ale. I see more than you think.”

“Obviously,” Davan sighed. “I have a lot to tell you Jupe but let’s not do it now okay. I promise when you are back from your honeymoon I will tell you as much as I can.”

“Daddy, can we go home now?” Tilly asked tiredly.

Memphis was holding her in one arm, and Emmaline was leaning heavily on the other.

“Sure-thing Baby Bug,” Davan said taking Tilly from Memphis. “How about we have one last dance with mumma before we go back to the hotel?”

“Mumma, you want to dance with daddy and me?” Tilly asked rubbing at her eyes sleepily.

“I would love that my darling,” Emmaline said smiling at Davan and their little girl.

There was a sad love in her eyes. Emmaline was aware of what precious little time she had left, and it made my heart hurt.

“Is your dance card full Mrs Blue?” Memphis asked taking me in his arms.

“For you, Mr Blue, I will always make room,” I replied giving him a soft kiss.

“Jupiter Blue, how did we get here?” Memphis asked resting his cheek on the top of my head as I snuggled into his chest.

“Oh, you know. Girl meets a boy, who introduces her to another boy. Boy embezzles money, then cheats on girl with the other boy and then her house burns down. Girl meets a new boy and lives happily ever after. It’s a tale filled with lies, deceit, intrigue, money issues, the mafia, life and death situations, you know just your typical love story.”

“Baby Girl it is anything but a typical love story,” he laughed as I looked into his loving eyes. “But it’s our love story, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

“I love you Memphis. Now, always and forever.”
