“You’re the one who realized it was her. If it wasn’t for that, it might have been years before her body was identified. Because of you, they’re going to be able to have a funeral for her this weekend and bury her next to her grandmother.”
“I’m glad,” I say. “How about Lilith?”
“Better. She’s in the secure hospital ward of the psychiatric facility. She’ll stay there until she’s strong enough for treatment. It’s going to take a lot of time, and she’ll still face charges, but she’s going to be able to make something of her life.”
“Are you leaving Harlan when you’re discharged?” Xavier asks.
“Not permanently,” I say. “This isn’t over. We still have a long way to go. A lot to prove. Sterling is still out there. The Dragon is still out there. He paid his debt to the judge with Millie’s death, but he’s not done yet.”
“How do you know?” Sam asks.
“Because he’s not the one who paid. Gabriel is. But why? What did Gabriel owe?”
